It'd be cool if we kept the I quit threads as posts in a single topic. So I welcome anyone who wants to announce to the world they are quitting FFXIV to post here.

I'm not quitting tho, I love this game. <3

Why the **** was this sub-defaulted?

This is an excellent idea aside from an admin just deleting the "I quit" threads when they get made.

Do you guys really need to share with everyone that you're quitting? If someone says "Dawwwwww sorry to see you go!" does that boost your self esteem or something?

We get it, you don't like the game. Do I or nearly everyone else who doesn't know you care? Nope, not one bit. I'm sure everyone who's playing the game understands the many faults the game has in its current state. It's asinine to assume they won't be fixed. Yes, like everyone else I want them fixed now, not a month down the road. Am I going to quit because of the faults? No, probably not, but if I do I surely won't make a post about it on a forum dedicated to the game hoping someone cares.

Every single website with forums dedicated to FFXIV is cluttered with topics such as: "I'm quitting and here's why", "This game is crap for x reason", "LOL SE!" etc etc...

I understand it's the way of internet forums to troll, but god it's getting annoying. We've all heard it a dozen times, hearing it from someone we haven't heard it from before does not turn someone who likes the game against it, nor does it serve a purpose other than needless clutter on the forums.

/end rant

Sorry I needed to get that off my chest >.>

Forums are about the game, and if people play the game then quit that is still apart of the game. People will come to the forums to see about the game before they buy it and spend their hard earned money on it. I personally feel that the posts are helpful even if you find them annoying. Also no one makes you read them and the fact that you want to silence people because they have a certain viewpoint they wish to express is a little alarming.

The fact that there are so many "I quit" threads gives a good overview of the current state of the community.

Many of these threads are at least backed up with why they are quitting. If people don't vocalise their complaints there won't be any improvements.

You have to understand that these posts aren't to troll, many of them are from long term FFXI players who are angry and disappointed at the state of this new iteration. As players who have spent hundreds of dollars with SE subscribing to FFXI over the years and hundreds of posts on this very forum I think the least they deserve is there own "I quit" thread.

I've been posting on Alla since early 2004, on the FFXIV forums since 6/09, pretty much exclusively. I cruise around to other forums, but this is the one I actually 'express my views' on.
Where else do you propose I go to speak about my displeasure? Some other forum I've posted on maybe twice?

Here, I'll troll for ya.
I posted this on another thread.

Quote:
From past FFXI experience, and the wasted (imo) time spent in the alpha/beta of FFXIV, it's my firm belief that SE will coast along as is until the PS3 version comes out next year. The real release.
Sure, there'll be small fixes and updates, maybe a patch or two, but nothing substantial.
This game has such potential, and could still get there, but SE hasn't ever believed in communicating with the player base. It's their game, take it or leave it.

I haven't quit FFXIV... yet.

Fine, my apologies. I was not aware that so many people cared to read about the game's faults in a dozen different renamed threads or hear about why someone is quitting over and over with the same restated reasons.

I used the FFXI forums on ZAM for information and game topic discussion. Yes discussing the game's many faults is a game topic, but does not need to be spread out over dozens of different threads. I guess it's just wishful thinking on my part that I use a forum dedicated to FFXI and not have to wade through so much bashing of the game just to find something worthwhile.

Well I would not expect really anything to exciting the the "General Discussion" part of the forums. Anything dealing with something of specific interest are probably in their respective forums.

SE did not make people tell everyone why the game is crap or why they're quitting nor did they tell everyone that they were special and deserved their own thread explaining (again) why they're quitting or why the game is crap.

I'm annoyed at the horrible forum clutter, I'm not trying to defend the game in any way, take it easy people...

If you believe that there should be so many different threads stating why the game is bad currently mixed in with everything else so people unsure about the game can come in and read about it, that's fine. I like to think that people are smart enough to read the forums and see the one or MAYBE two threads dedicated to people bashing the game or telling everyone they're quitting. Wishful thinking I suppose...

Well as much as they the "quit" threads are annoying. People do have the right to voice their own opinion as much as I dislike it lol in the words of voltaire "
I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it." But I also do believe we should centralize the quiting threads just to house clean the forum a tad bit. I suppose it could be sticked and put near the top of the forum page, so all those who wish their dissent against SE to be heard can have it heard.

I like "I QUIT" threads, it consolidates a lot of forum spam and such. Problem is, it never works. You still have the odd few people who are insistant on creating their very own thread.

However - if we are going to create a sticky "I QUIT" thread, can we make a sticky "FANBOY CIRCLE JERK" thread as well to consolidate all the pointless posts praising the 1 or 2 things that people are enjoying in this game, ie., crafting and ... well, crafting.

Thanks!

How are 90% of the I quit threads are are created by jaded WoW rejects that achieved max level and the best gear in a Week of an expansion / patch coming how saying how bad this game is and its to hard or to much work for them to get anything, how is that good to some one that is seriously looking at the game becasue they loved FFXI or they loved the Final Fantasy game series. I am sorry but the I quit threads do more harm then good.

Apprently you did not read my post all you saw was "WoW" in the paragraph. I simple stating that the majority of Post are coming from these type of people that dont know what a FF MMO operates like or how it works. 1% or lower actually know about FFXI release and what state that game was in. FFXIV is doing somthing no other MMO company would even think of doing they are trying all New things and its going to pay off in the end. All these Ideas are innovative and new so ya they are going to be a little rough around the edges but they dont deserve instant pursicution just because your not having fun or dont agree with the way SE is taking this game. Like it or not SE is an established Game company with the funds to do as they please, if you dont like it dont play their games and leave trust me they wont miss you.

I played FFXI from the NA launch in 2003. I know very well how FF Online games work. And this game isn't innovative. It's regressive. Polishing game mechanics that were left behind a decade ago amongst missing mechanics leaving big gaping holes in an already dated experience? No. Asking for a functional, next generation experience does not equal this.

And if you think they won't miss paying customers you're so wrong. What, you think they are giving this away?

People will come to the forums to see about the game before they buy it and spend their hard earned money on it. I personally feel that the posts are helpful even if you find them annoying. Also no one makes you read them and the fact that you want to silence people because they have a certain viewpoint they wish to express is a little alarming.

Could you possibly close that piegob of yours re: WoW. We don't want WoW. We want a FUNctional FF MMO. Seriously, beating the dead horse much?

To bad FFXI did not release in NA till several months after it was established in JP.

Too bad that launch was considered a tremendous embarrassment too. Amazing how there was an Internet and news stories available on such things even back then!

Just humour me for a moment and list the good innovative ideas they've added.

And SE will certainly miss the subscribers. Especially at the rate they're leaving. Fewer subs means less development money to fix and add features

This is a forum for final fantasy xiv players however, by quitting you automatically stop being one, and thus are trolling. Mwahahahaa :P

but in all seriousness, I enjoy FFXIV and I come here to read about the game, not about a bunch of people who are quitting and just that. It doesn't bring anything into the table. I think that keeping all that spam in a single topic is a good idea, hence the thread. They wouldn't get into posts that are actually game related and they'd still... exist.

the people quitting have as much right to talk about this game as anyone. if you don't care to read their opinions, I'd suggest you either either stop reading the forums altogether, or at least check the thread titles before you read them.

And when did I say otherwise? My point is that they are posting the same stupid irrelevant crap over and over in individual threads. Which is spam.

If the threads were about any other topic everyone would agree, but all the nerdy 30 year old fanboys who sigh whimsicality craving to go back to the days of the NES are all ****** at the new game in town (how original) so its becoming accepted to take in all these garbage threads that contribute zero and do nothing but repeat themselves.

Nice work steering people away from the game. Does anyone formulate their own opinion about things nowadays? "Oh look, a game I was wanting to try out is getting trashed by the more vocal players... Better steer clear of that one, wouldn't want to have to come to a conclusion myself."

If I stayed away from every game that received a bad review I'd have missed out on quite a few good ones. Like I said, it's asinine to assume the problems in the game right now won't be fixed sometime soon. If someone is unsure as to whether or not they want to play the game then let them play the game and find out. If they find even the slightest bit of joy playing the game, it can only get better from here >.>

All the anti fan boys need to quit cramming the bowling pins fat end first up their kazoos and realize people are loving this game, like me, I'm not having to try to enjoy it. Hoping for some changes, but it's pretty **** sad when I am hyped about this game and illiterate bastards trash it non stop with petty drivel about how they bought computers. Then, they go on with mindless prattle about how FFXIV somehow ruined it for them, even tho SE never one freaking time sold them a computer. They are likely too slow to understand the basic mechanics of a game that doesn't play itself. These people are a huge let down after playing FFXI and developing a respect for a good community. So, please realize you are the minor few who think we care or even think that FFXI's gameplay or ui was any better. It was the same as this but with more development and fine tuning. Rest assured, you have crappy taste in games and likely didn't like the game because you didn't smell what you are stepping in. That or you just really don't understand SE or how any mmo is made.

Except people aren't making "I Quit" thread to warn others of 'making the same mistake I did'. People make "I Quit" threads for attention and affirmation of their decision. They want their investment (whether that be investment of time, money, or the investment of self during the anticipation of release) to not count for nothing......

But in the end it will count for nothing. Because the vocal minority will be gone in a month (although some will remain to troll) and the 999999 other players I walked by in Ul'dah tonight will still be there enjoying a game that will only get better.

To sum up: Nobody would post in a consolidated "I Quit" thread even if it was stickied and took up the entire front page because they want to feel like their feelings about the game are somehow more valid and unique than the other 20 posters that started a thread on the front page here. But they aren't......

All the flan boys need to quit cramming the maracas fat end first up their kazoos and realize people are ambivalent about this game, like me, I'm somewhat trying to enjoy it. Hoping for some changes, but it's pretty **** sad when I am fairly interested in this game and I figured my middle-range computer could run it on modest settings, but the server lag often renders any stable rate of FPS useless. So, please realize you are the minor few who do not think FFXI's gameplay or UI was better than FFXIVs in some ways. Rest assured, I have no strong opinions one way or the other on your taste in games. That and you just really don't understand threads or how this one should be deleted.

Sorry, if I know the Ford Pinto will explode on impact, I'm not going to tell my friends to go buy one and find out for themselves. FFXIV is a Ford Pinto.

And I didn't even tell them not to buy based on my opinion. That would be too easy and I wouldn't tell someone not to try something just because I don't like it. When a large portion of a player base feels the same way then it's a different story.

Anyway Cadant you can look at things like that if you want (because you will), but I would call that being a smart shopper. I didn't tell anybody to look at just Gamespot/GT/etc reviews; I lead them to forums that have decent traffic and I feel give a good representation of the most hardcore mmo enthusiasts, especially Final Fantasy. There's nothing wrong with checking out other consumer's opinions before buying; we do it when we build computers, buy cars, or even children's toys.

I agree that it can only get better from here, but how long will it take before SE listens? If ffxi is any indicator then I wouldn't hold my breath. If they begin to feel the difference in their wallets it could come much sooner though.

Not everyone has money to throw away just to try something. I would not recommend anything to anyone if it was bad and cost money.

Also if the problems get fixed soon like you think they will then the guy can let his friends know that the problems were fixed, instead of playing the game and not enjoying it and then maybe quitting and not coming back instead of starting and enjoying and staying.

Also it really bugs me when people make claims about how things are going to get better, no one really knows what is going to happen. And everyone keeps trying to predict the future, sure the chances of it getting better are good but that does not mean that it will happen, for all we know the problems won't be fixed for a month, or maybe a couple of months.

Outside of organized market wards coming next week, I don't think there is any official word of any plans to change/improve gameplay.

Awesome... I go to bed and people compare FFXIV, a fifty dollar video game, to a Ford Pinto. How they are related is beyond me but maybe your copy explodes and kills people. The game is not defective it just has a plethora of non game breaking flaws. You can call the plethora all together a game breaking flaw if you want, but there are (more than likely) thousands of people who have been playing the game just fine despite them. Having more tolerance than someone else playing a brand new game does not make them some rabid fanboy >.>

The problem with leading people here to prove to them that this game is crap is that they aren't hearing from anyone but the vocal part of the population. Yes there are the random comments from people liking the game here and there, but for every 1 of those there are 3 people trolling or spewing the same crap about why the game is bad

Why the **** was this sub-defaulted?

This is an excellent idea aside from an admin just deleting the "I quit" threads when they get made.

Edited, Oct 9th 2010 9:15pm by Cadant

Oh ****, who are we kidding? Where you around when they announced the level limit break on =10? That was flooded with more "I quit" threads than this game has ever gotten. The admins made a sticky, care to take a guess at what happened? People STILL didn't use the sticky! OMG NO WAI! And on top of that, the admins decided to take it down because it "sent the wrong image about a fansite when one of the first things you saw stickied was a thread about people quitting the game". That's right, they were worried about their precious reputation with SE and removed it, not that anyone was using it anyways.

And as to why this thread was Sub-defaulted originally:

This whole thread was an attempt by an internet troll to get attention.
You've fed the troll, congratulations!

Yeah, I probably still won't frequent the market wards for a while. I want to wait until prices settle and people settle down on what they
want to craft. That way I will know who always sells what. Also the market wards from what I heard only suggest that you sell certain things
in certain wards, I am not sure about what to do if I was a multi-choice crafter. It should be interesting to see what people do since we all know people never do what is usually expected.

I am quitting. The battle system is just too boring for my taste. There is no excitement, its just using the same monotonous abilities over and over. I miss real weapon skills and skill chains from FFXI. Combine FFXI battle and class mechanics with FFXIV graphics, now that would be an awesome game. /sigh
