Hilarious. They're hemorrhaging players all on their own and now they're suspending paying customers for no reason. Awesome.

Yea I'm not very happy right now. I ordered the CE and put $20 with of their lame *** currency on my account. I played the game for 1 day.. on CE launch, and another day about a week later. Last night I played for the first time since then for a few hours.. and today I'm banned? This is a joke.

I don't suppose you played as a conjurer or a thaumaturge and spent a few leves standing around spamming heals on someone who was purposely drawing out a fight just so you could amass skill points, did you?

People don't get suspended for no reason in the first weeks of an MMO's service. You probably know what you did. There's almost always more to these "wtf bant?!!" posts than meets the eye.

You can try contacting SE support:
http://support.na.square-enix.com/faqarticle.php?id=902&la=1&kid=56936&ret=faqtop&c=3&sc=311

If you really are innocent then you should be able to talk it out with them. Goodluck.

I played a thaumaturge, but I played solo the entire time. I agree, when someone posts a "why did i get banned" thread, they usually aren't telling the full story.. but I'm really at a loss for words. Do hacks even exist yet? My fishing was at 0, so obviously not a fish botter. The only thing that stands out is me creating some long /eaction macros for changing classes

Sounds to me like someone key logged or hacked your account and did something in game to get banned. Not all that uncommon in PC MMORPGs.

The way Square customer service work is if you are guilty they wont give you an inch of leeway and you are 100% screwed, if you aree innocent they ignore you and unless you are ok with spending months battling you can say goodbye to your account. GL!

"Guilty until proven innocent" is the SE way though. Anyone here who also played XI will remember quite well all the mass innocent bannings over simple stuff like gardening, where they "tried" to make something that would catch RMT, but instead auto-ban everyone else.

I assume it's because you were found by S-E to be exploiting the old healing XP system, and didn't report yourself.

Edit: I'm not accusing you of exploiting, I'm just saying that if I had to guess, that's what their reason would be.

Here is an update on this BS.. chat support with SE just now.

Agent Kyle: Hello, thank you for contacting SQUARE ENIX Customer Support. Just a few moments while I review your question, please.
Me: ok
Agent Kyle: In order for us to more accurately address your issue, we will require additional information. Please give a brief explanation of the issue you are having and please include any error codes or messages you are receiving.
Me: i tried to login to my ffxiv account, and it said it was suspended doe to violation of terms.. i've only played the game 2-3 times and I have no idea what could have happened
Me: due*
Me: it said to contact support for more information
Agent Kyle: One moment.
Agent Kyle: It looks like the suspension on your account will be ending on 10/13/2010
Me: ok, why was I suspended?
Agent Kyle: Unfortunately I cannot see that information, only reason would be a violation of the terms of use.
Me: there is nothing you can do to remove it now? like I said this is only my 2nd or 3rd time playing the game.. i played solo and talked to no one. i've done nothing wrong and this is using up my free time to play sadly
Agent Kyle: At this time we are investigating this issue, but other than telling you when the suspension will be lifted, I cannot give you anymore information at this time.
Me: So this is how SE supports people who shell out $75 for a game? this is amazing.
Agent Kyle: If you can contact us back at a later date we might be able to provide more information on the issue.
Me: today? tomorrow?
Agent Kyle: Either day would be fine. I just can't guarantee when we will have more information.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

wow... so now we have concrete evidence that SE learned nothing from FFXI. After all the class-action lawsuites in FFXI due to improperly banned account (and still charging a monthly service fee), 4 out of 10 ratings on FFXIV, are they seriously trying to put FFXIV out of business before the PS3 release?? Please don't, I'm one who actually LIKES it!

Suspending an account but won't tell you why so it wont happen again: Priceless

Thats like coming home from school and getting a spanking from Dad and as you rub your rear afterward you ask, "Why? What did I do?"

Dad responds, "I don't exactly know why but get back with me in a day or two and I might. Otherwise, go to your room and no TV or video games till October 13th."

Perhaps the drug related name? I've seen a few improper names get banned/suspended with ones outright swears or racially offensive names in them. On FFXI they forced a friend of mine to change his name because it was 'Smokenpot'. Couldn't see less for FFXIV.

Wow, ease up guys! Lousy customer service, maybe, but lets look at the situation. I'd guess there was a GM involved in the ban? If so, what are the odds that they went above and beyond their theoretical job description and would bother to note why they did it, when all they have to do is stamp "violated TOS" on it?

I'm sorry that they banned you when you apparently didn't do anything wrong.
Out of curiosity though, 14 physical/9 THU from 2 days (how many hours total) and a few hours on a 3rd? Is that something easily accomplished without the exploit? I only ask because of all the ranting about no content in other threads.

Thats terrible and very one sided of SE. they should at least release the reason to the paying user. I'm sure the CS rep as no real control. I would see about escalating this up the chain as far as you can.

Others MMOs do this to mind you. But at least most of them are prepared to handle unintentional banning. They way they handle this situation shows no respect to their customer base.

I believe you might have hit the nail on the head here.

Suspending seems a bit harsh. they should at least suspend the account and force the player to change their name.

An e-mail explaining why it was suspended and why the name needs to be changed. Also, if a system isn't in place to allow that they shouldn't enforce suspensions until one is in place.

This is how they always operated on FFXI, GM's had power to ban you for anything. Temp/perm whatever, they were fully able to abuse their powers if they saw fit, they don't even have to give a reason to ban you when they process it lol Loads of people were banned on FFXI and given no reason.

You were lucky it was a temp ban cause if it was permanent they refuse to respond at all or tell you why ever, you can appeal it but wow thats really really difficult to accomplish when they won't acknowledge you or let you speak to a higher authority etc.

Something else you might want to mull over is that when you get a temp ban it goes on your permanent record and if you get in trouble again over something even small you can be perma banned with no recourse. They also will never take this temp ban off your record.

Lol, what the heck??? They might as well ban 50% of the player base with that rule! At least then they can blame FFXIV's failure on a poorly thought out terms of agreement rather than everything else that's wrong with the game!

WoW has the same terms, maybe even more strict. It's pretty standard fare for MMO terms of service.

WoW Terms of Service wrote:
Each user will either select a character name or allow the Service to automatically select a character name at random. Additionally, users may form "guilds" and such guilds will be required to choose a name for the guild. When you choose a character name, create a guild, or otherwise create a label that can be seen by other players using the Game or the Service, you must abide by the following guidelines as well as the rules of common decency. If Blizzard finds such a label to be offensive or improper, it may, in its sole and absolute discretion, change the name, remove the label and corresponding chat room, and/or suspend or terminate your use of the Service. In particular, you may not use any name:

(i) Belonging to another person with the intent to impersonate that person, including without limitation a "Game Master" or any other employee or agent of Blizzard;

(ii) That incorporates vulgar language or which are otherwise offensive, defamatory, obscene, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable;

(iii) Subject to the rights of any other person or entity without written authorization from that person or entity;

(iv) That belongs to a popular culture figure, celebrity, or media personality;

(v) That is, contains, or is substantially similar to a trademark or service mark, whether registered or not;

(vi) Belonging to any religious figure or deity;

(vii) Taken from Blizzard's Warcraft products, including character names from the Warcraft series of novels;

(viii) Related to drugs, ***, alcohol, or criminal activity;

(ix) Comprised of partial or complete sentence (e.g., "Inyourface", "Welovebeef", etc);

(x) Comprised of gibberish (e.g., "Asdfasdf", "Jjxccm", "Hvlldrm");

(xi) Referring to pop culture icons or personas (e.g. " "Britneyspears", "Austinpowers", "Batman")

(xii) That utilizes "Leet" or "Dudespeak" (e.g., "Roflcopter", "xxnewbxx", "Roxxoryou")

(xiii) That incorporates titles. For purposes of this subsection, "titles" shall include without limitation 'rank' titles (e.g. , "CorporalTed," or "GeneralVlad"), monarchistic or fantasy titles (e.g., "KingMike", "LordSanchez"), and religious titles (e.g., "ThePope," or "Reverend Al"). You may not use a misspelling or an alternative spelling to circumvent the name restrictions listed above, nor can you have a "first" and "last" name that, when combined, violate the above name restrictions.

Oh, they still wont even tell me what I did wrong, let alone lift my suspension.. I've tried chat support a few more times and they all basically give the same answer. "Er, well we can't tell you what you did wrong.. but you think hard about what you have done and never do it again!" is their response.

The name thing is what makes the most.. "sense" so far. Why not just disconnect me and have me change my name, rather than have to go through all this? I'm at the point where I don't even care anymore, but I WAS having fun playing THM so I want to try it out some more

Personally - I would have persisted until I spoke to someone who can give me an answer, "Let me speak to a manager/team lead" etc

Or say you are a reviewer for a magazine and need to complete your review on the game by tomorrow and since you can't play... ;)
