So I've been sitting around waiting for the PS3 relase, because that's what I'll be playing on. I've been reading lots of posts and have come up with the only 2 things I can think of to explain things as they stand today. (please note I'm not serious, this is supposed to be fun, and allow me to vent a bit)

1.) This game was released broken on purpose. In order to show how great their new philosophy of listening to players is, the game has the flaws built in from the start. Now, when there's an uproar from the community, the devs can just sit back and plug in the fixes they have already set up. This prompt response causes us to say "At least they're listenting".

2.) PS3 release was delayed on purpose. As we all know when an MMO comes out, very often little if nothing else finds its way into the CD tray. So, SE and Sony agreed that to help increase sales over the holidays, the only console MMO for the PS3 would have to wait until the start of the 2nd quarter next year.

Scary, but most likely not true. :)

Edit: Spelling

Any thoughts??

I believe them when they say its difficult to put the game onto the PS3, however I also think that being able to split initial sales into 2 different quarters was a factor. SE's used to having 2-3 separate releases for their games between Eu/JP/NA, and this helps them get that effect.

As far as the game being broken, I think SE's just been told their geniuses enough times that they believe they can't do wrong. They really have no idea that this game isn't all that good.

Fix'd, and this.

They're extremely reluctant to change an implementation of something because the players don't like it. After all, how could the players not like something they created? They obviously just don't know what's good in MMOs.

Look at how they respond to the complaints about market wards. We want an AH or a search function because looking through bazaars one at a time in the wards to find something is painfully slow. So SE finally gives in by not giving either of these. Instead, they're working on breaking the market wards up into sections so that people will know where to start looking through bazaars. One at a time. If that item happens to be the kind of item the player wants to sell most and not the other 9 items that are also trying to be sold but are still stuck there in the incorrect zone because you only get one retainer.

I'd have to agree with the multiple release dates being more revenue stream related. The capitol generated during the PC release will be a big boost to the operations budget and allow them to get a good start on the first expansion (from a money standpoint) They will release the PS3 version in march, gather another large chunk of change and within a few months thereafter (most likely in their next fiscal quarter) I would predict the first expansion release, once again giving them a good cash infusion.

As far as them saying its difficult to put the game onto the PS3 its very hard for me to believe that. Being as so many of the PS3's generation of games have an online aspect and with network connectivity built into it I would think it would be a rather simple matter to implement the game on the console. Now had they said the PS2 version of FFXI was a pain, that I could see as it really broke new ground at the time what with the barely supported HD and network adapter the PS2 used.

Not only that, but SE is a console developer>pc developer. Most NA think of FFXI for example as a PC game ported to Ps2,because of the launch schedule in NA,but the game was developed for Ps2 first in Japan, then ported to PC.They don't have any problems making this game for ps3.
