I'm a big Square fan and was happy and excited that FFXIV was coming out. I went and spent $400 to get a new video card to run this game and pre-ordered the special edition. Today, I spilled ice tea on my keyboard and let it dry out. After it dried I decided to start the game and see if the keyboard still works. I missed the password entry 3 times and got locked out. I get a message that because of multiple log in attempts the account will be locked for several minutes.

Um ok, so several means how many?

So I figure out the password issue and try again in 5 with same message then in 10 minutes and same thing. So now I'm sitting here waiting and wondering does the clock reset each time I try? Should I wait longer before next attempt.

I'm so angry because just like everything else the time out time was done half fast. Unlike other sites that tell you to wait 5 minutes or 10 it just says in several minutes.

I'm so angry how poorly made this game is that I had to drag myself to the PC to even play today then this!

I decided that when the game allows me to log in again, I will cancel my account in protest. While thinking this I look down at my FFXIV Special Edition box and realize that they already won. Square got my $75 already and could care less if I cancel anyway. I'm just another Fanboy sucker that got the Square shaft right up the @ss...

Never again Square, next time I but one of your products I will wait a month for the reviews before I decide to waste my money.

Wait? lol you are frustrated because of a security feature which is helping your account stay secure? yes you would reset the countdown timer each time you tried again, you could have even locked out your account totally by doing this,(requiring you to phone up and give a few security details) its a standard security measure that even your email account has.

So your gonna quit because YOU spilt a drink on your keyboard and it wouldn't work correctly? YOU continously tried to get into your account until security kicked in, YOU, then even after that measure told YOU to wait (usually 10 mins max) YOU still impatiently tried? this has nothing to do with SE, i actually think this should be praised.

Yep, FFXIV is the first video game (or product period) that I've ever pre-ordered in my life. It will also be my last, lesson learned.
Q: How many SE employees does it take to change a lightbulb?
A: None, it's working as intended.

I hear ya brother.

But I started thinking, I have been a fan of SE for along time, and over the past 10 years or so they have really dropped a bunch of turds on us. But I stayed loyal. I actually got 2 copies of the CE, and was feeling sick to my stomach everytime I see the box and realize how much of a waste it was.

But now, I look at it like, it cost me 150 bucks to never have to buy another SE title again.WE got off cheap if you look at it like that.

Glass half full.

Itnetpro - I'm gussing that your posting name indicates some measure of competency regarding "IT" and Computers?

Well then why, for the love of soup, did you not check that your keyboard was sending the right letters in notepad or something the FIRST time the password was rejected, knowing that you had previously spilled something on it?

Don't blame SE because you did something that is so obviously..... Well... There is no cure....

No I am angry about how poorly designed this game is. Because I was such a Fanboy, I continued to drag myself to the computer to play this game and tonight this pushed me over the edge. It's not the account lock out that upset me more so that they don't bother to inform you (Just like any other site) just how many minutes to wait to try to log back in. It's a small thing but It's yet another thing to add to the already long list of disappointments about this game that I tried so hard to like...

Enjoy waiting for them to fix this dud I'm out of here...

Blah blah blah. If you don't enjoy the game don't play it. Simple as that.

So you're angry at SE because you messed up? Good thing you're quitting before you actually have to play with other people.

so let me get this straight.. you're mad at SE because you lack common hand eye coordination and spilled tea on your keyboard. so then you miss typed your password too many times and instead of giving it some time after you got the message that you have attempted to many failed logins you came to ZAM forums to complain that SE is trying to protect your account? I'm surprised you even installed the game correctly. if anything this is one thing SE might have gotten right...

You know what? You are SO right! Cancel your account, shame on SE for doing to you what hundreds of players wish SE did for them that holiday of **** when they ALL got easily hacked.

Did they ever get their accounts back?

Serves you right for not using a PROPER keyboard: The IBM Model M. Because of the drainage channels, you can spill a gallon of tea into it and your only problem will be a wet desk! As an "itnetpro" you should already know this.

I spilled a whole glass of milk on my keyboard about a week or so ago. I was so ****** at myself thinking I had to buy a new wireless keyboard. Turns out that it has built in drainage canals on different spots on the keyboard so after cleaning it up (Including desk and carpet... x_x) I tried it out. Works perfectly fine even if I think I lost one of the metal hinges that belongs to a key. It's a Logitech keyboard and I can tell ya one thing, I am buying Logitech products from now on. :)

Unrelated to FFXIV I know but I wanted to reply to the topic about spilling things on keyboards. By the way, I agree with the others here this seems like a stupid reason to quit the game over. Some time ago I got locked out of my banking account because I forgot the security answers. ****** me off so much I had to keep contacting the bank to unlock my account that I planned to shut down my account permanently. Eventually I just changed the security questions to something I could easily remember and haven't had problems since...

I like how you said you had to pull yourself to play the game everyday yet when confronted with a way to not play for a few more minutes you attempt to log back in. Whether done through frustration or addiction it is still pretty dumb.

Have fun on a different game.
Insanity is merely a point of view.
