Playing without problems from behind a router?Follow

Hi,

I'm looking for suggestions on what router to buy. This thread kind of links to this thread.

What i'm looking for is people who are managing to play without dc problems from behind a router and more than 1 person playing. Both myself and my partner want to play at the same time which is just not happening at the moment. I know from past experience with FFXI some people had better luck with different routers, for instance my old dlink router absolutely sucked, got a netgear and worked much better.

Also people with a single IP address, not multiple IP's, I know some isp's can provide several external ip's so every computer effectively has direct access to internet, mine does not and here in the UK we only have one cable company so its not like I can change to someone else, neither is ADSL an option, out phonelines might as well not be there they are so poor.

So some posts of router makes and models would be most helpful.

My wife and I have no connectivity problems behind our Linksys WRT320N on Comcast with a single IP address. Although our WRT320N needs to be power cycled ever few days because it degrades the speed over time.

Linksys WRT54G is a rock solid model if your internet speed isn't too fast. I don't think it would handle fiber speeds of maybe 10-20Mpbs and above. FWIW our WRT320N is pulling 100Mbps on a good day.

Thanks for the reply, funny I was just looking at that router, mainly because it also has the gb ports. Good price as well and reviews seem positive, that and CISCO also had a hand in producing it.

Goggers I just saw your post in the other router thread saying it's been happening for 6 days. My wife hasn't been happy with the game and hasn't been on much. If it's not a problem from day 1 and only just this past week I can't confirm that we aren't having the same issue. If I can get her to log in and do some leves I'll let you know how it goes.

I use an Actiontec MI424WR; comes free with Verizon FIOS. Another good one is the Linksys WRT54GL.

I use a Netgear WNR2000v2. I think any N router should do the job, though. I had to return my first WNR2000v2 because it burned out in less than a month, though. I have heard from other Netgear users that they are great, I think maybe I just had some bad luck. My replacement router has been going strong for about 4 months or so now, works great with me and my wife connected to the internet doing various things. I can even play FFXIV, or MW2 with no problems(other than hosting on MW2 lol) while she is downloading large files with no issues.
