Any one think we even have a chance at an In Game Event? While I wouldn't want a full blown event like we get in XI I wouldn't mind some items like firecrackers or crazy pumpkin mobs. The only reason I wouldn't want a full event is I'd obviously like them to maintain their focus on changes and tweaks for the longhaul, but a few treats shows the dev team is still enjoying themselves.

Yeah, maybe they'll disguise this as a fun game.

Watch the first patch only be halloween decorations.

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, and I'd love to see a halloween event, but I don't expect one until maybe next year. They've gotta be super busy right now just dealing with keeping the game running and fixing things.

Actually, this is kind of an interesting question. Because from what I've read of FFXI, the first few events were entirely player organized then SE took them and made them official. SE may actually be trying to do something similar by leaving out the AH and currently leaving things very open ended. They may actually be providing a basic framework for a social culture to form, then the additions to the game they add will be made to encourage that culture.

I doubt that we'll see something for Halloween this year. There's just too many other issues they need to take care of right now, I don't think many players would appreciate them spending the time to make an event rather than fixing the game up.

A Christmas event would be much more likely, in my opinion.

But we'll probably still be able to say the first part of your post at Xmas.

Hopefully not.

2 months from now I would hope they have chocobos and airships ingame, more quests, fix enmity, implement beastmen, get some sort of search function going for retainers, and have tweaked crafting so you don't have such a random recipe list where everything seems to have been thrown in at various ranks with no attention to if the difficulty or ingredients are appropriate or not.

Will that all happen? I really doubt it. But I've been in betas where they've managed to vastly improve the game's content within a few patches. Maybe SE will whip out the "miracle patch" (*eyeroll*) that everyone liked to talk about whenever someone expressed concerns over release.

Experience will prove we will probably get a -1 inventory bell function for Christmas before the goodies really start rolling through.

Just a note, for those who are ranting how bad the game is and everything, may be worthwhile to take a look at the link above. It goes through all the history of FFXI from beta to the NA release and end of 2003's service. Looking at that and FFXI now it shows it came a very long way. That isn't to say however, that SE can be excused for sending out this game in its current state, only that it's likely to get better with a little patience. Wait until the PS3 release if you're so inclined and FFXIV should be a whole other game by then.

On topic now, I sort of hope to see an event but I wouldn't get my hopes up too much. What really matters is they work on these troubling issues first before we get into the meat of events and items.

I knew the first events in XI were player based, and as I said I know the dev team is currently very busy on more important issues. I do wonder how many people would gripe and moan if every one got a random mask or food item for Halloween. Will there be people in a few days who moan because they got nothing and SE must hate us etc...?

I know if there is nothing going on in game from SE that I plan on dressing up in the worst mix-mash of gear possible to create something freakish. I know I'll use sheep subligar as part of it, I still haven't pieced together the rest. Maybe I'll have a sale on Red and Yellow crystals and call it a candy corn sale. All sorts of things we can do ourselves.

I do see the Christmas time frame as a more reasonable holiday to hope for an event or items, but that won't keep me from secretly hoping ^.^

Yeah, first things first: fix the friggin game! However, I hope they do eventually go all out on holiday events. I always enjoyed them in FFXI and the holidays in WoW are a blast.

I hope they do something! Those events were always a blast (pun) except for how annoying the constant fireworks became in Sandy! XD
