well lets see the game came out worldwide sept 22nd & 30th not even a month later its a falure?

other mmo's that should of failed but still going even worse state than ffxiv you people ******** must of played other mmo's into there life span cuz they all were ****** in the begining.

Aion - came out in korea nov'2008 then hit the usa in spet'2009 still felt like a empty beta

world of warcraft - i remember everyone saying this game was instant falure cuz it look like it was for kids, it was also broken in many ways mobs not dieing and getting stuck and other weird glitches that took a few months to fix.

Age of Conan - game was ucked on release buggy as ****, couple months later it was working fine and there was no other mmo like it.

everquest 2 - over shadowed by WoW, its still going but i think sony gave up on it, even though there poping out lame expansions 6 years later.

ffxi - hard as **** and tedious was a turn off to many and the went to other mmo's. even with the noob frendly update people still find it hard, exp patch and all.

Me for my side, i dont think of FFXIV as a failure. for me is more like a newborn child witch needs to grown

So even little childs give you sometimes the feeling of giving up, or taking a break, but when they get older,......it doesnt get better, but you like it anyway

As I said in another post, "Failure" doesn't mean the game stops and shuts down the servers.

"Failure" means they FAILED to reach their goals. And that they have. Tanaka stated he wanted to be a contender in the MMO market, as it stands they wont sell as many copies worldwide over the next year, than WoW's xpac will sell in Los Angeles on dec 7th.

Aion is a failure worldwide,
Age of Conan IS a failure
FFXI is borderline really, over all has seen moderate success.

I remember the WoW launch too, I was playing FFXI at the time, and we were all saying it was lame, the character models were childish looking, and so on, I also remember people leaving in droves to go play it, and not coming back to FFXI. Compare to this game, FF has a rabid fanbase, that 50% of currently hate the game, thats not a recipe for a success.

SE is a company not a charity, they are in this for money and success, if you think anything else you are kidding yourself. As it stands, this game will never make the top 5 in MMO popularity. Theres a gigantic gap between first and second place, so really anything behind #3 is a dismal failure.

I'm pretty sure Aion is dying already.

I'm not sure about this one, but isn't Age of Conan already dead?

If FFXIV wasnt lacking in so many areas, I could see the viewpoint of "give it time" but when I opened my CE and looked through the manual to get some idea of controls/functions...I was left with only knowing how to install the game. I mean, really? Even Lemmings had a freaking manual that explained more ***** than this. No quests/lack of storyline makes me sad. I have loved the storylines of FF since I started playing on NES(Still have the original cartridge ^^). I do enjoy the crafting system style but not the fact that it takes so long to actually get to the crafting. I admit, I'm more of a crafter than an end-gamer but come on...needing a rank 20 item as a mat for a rank 5 item is seriously laughable.

Yes the game is gonna take time to improve. I agree with both sides here to some degree. I want FFXIV to be a game where I can actually spend some time exploring. I want FFXIV to be as great as everyone else...but I'm a realist that knows when I'm given an unfinished package. Its obvious and disappointing. Is it a failure? Possibly. Can it recover? YES! The players want it to progress into something big! Like everyone else, when I drop $60-$80 for a game...I expect more than just great graphics and cut scenes.
Aion - Agreed...but it actually had quests and a system in place to help get comfy/familiar with the settings/game.

World of Warcraft - Oh god i remember it all...but I dont remember the part of everyone saying it was instant fail. Did they say it was cartoony and it turned them off to it...but after actually playing it ppl began to like it for what it had to offer. Again, systems in place for comfy feeling. FFXIV lacks it atm.

Age of Conan - Cant comment, never played.

Everquest 2 - Agreed, but even if it released before WoW...still would have sunk...looked too much like DAOC to me.

FFXI - yeah...one of the smoother launches but yes it did turn me off to have such a grind. I was still playing DAOC at the time so didnt give it much chance.

Every game goes through a rough launch and they fix it later on...that I can agree with you. But it sounds like to me that you are expecting way too much from SE. Even if 6months goes by, unless they drop a mega patch to fix things...FFXIV will become....dare i say it...a failure! ::ques thunder and lightning in the background::

The game will be fine. Those who didn't like the game and are still here lurking these forums every day hoping the game will crash and burn will be disappointed.

You're missing the point,

Making a game for hardcore gamers, and call it that. Thats fine..But SE said they want to be the top MMO, and they said they want to get "Casual gamers" to play. Those were the 2 main goals, and they aren't going to meet them, so its a failure.

Making something that some people love, and alot of people hate, is not how you become one of the most popular games. Saying you want to get alot of "casual gamers" to subscribe, you're going to have to have a certain ammount of spoonfeeding.

why its that the reason it's a failure

So it is a failure for you, if the doc tells you, "Well Mr, your kids can walk or talk right a way after it was born, and then it neither talks nore walks....

Just give SE a chance till PS3 release, and then we can judge

For the record, I just want it known that I do enjoy playing FFXIV atm. Might as well use up the remaining days I have before I get a bill. I'll be watching for improvements tho. I was kinda hoping FFXIV to be a bit more exciting. My own fault tho...hyped it up too much ^^

If my wife was pregnant for 5 years, I would expect the baby walk right after it was born yes.
