This will be the new one stop thread for my Windows Gadget and Logitech LCD application. I have created wiki articles that you can use to follow the development of these programs. Also on those articles are discussion pages which can be used to request features as well as report bugs. I will check them several times a week so you can expect fairly rapid support if there are issues. These will also be the places that I update first with new releases as I finish them. I will be locking the other threads I've created as soon as I finish typing this.

FFXIV Windows Gadget

Logitech LCD App

Thank you all for the support and kind words while I've been working on these, I hope to keep dazzling you with new features as I have time Smiley: thumbsup

The windows gadget runs off of JS, I could easily create a js file for it but then that would just be giving away the hard work of several people Smiley: wink

If you want it for your site PM with what you want and why and I might help ya out.

I could turn it into a silverlight app fairly easily, I have a .cs file for my logitech app, but I would have to do some research on flash to see how to do that.

Hi, first I want to say I have 0 Experience creating apps or adjusting compatabilities.
that being said, I think its great you have made an app for the game. I unfortunately am just like everyone else and have a little request for this app.
I'd like to see a mobile port for Android OS, do you think this would be possible. I would go about trying to do it myself if I knew what I was doing but I'm stupid with these sorts of things.

other than that thank you very much for what you already have here and I look forward to seeing new things in the future.

Edit: I just realized something, I'm not so worried about server status being mobile but mostly the game time phases and day/hour elements

Khorbin has an app for that in Android. It may not have everything mine has yet, but I haven't heard from Khorbin so I'm not sure if he's working on updating it.

That's a great question! Smiley: thumbsup

I'll see if there is a built in way to find that out. I know the Fraps LCD app does it, but I don't know if the logitech app provides the hooks or not. If not, I doubt it, I'm not going to write anything that monkeys with the game files at all, but if it does, I'll find out and let you know.

Any way to make the app update-able? So i don't have to keep checking this page to stay current?

Also if you could make a way to launch FFXIV and maybe the config from this gadget that would be cool, i dunno how you could smoothly fit a lot of options into the UI without it getting too bulky.

Gadgets can't reallybe self upateable, I can look into making a link or something appear if there is a new version out possibly.

Just ininstall the old, download and install the new and you should be set.

I just set up the windows gadget and I only found one annoyance with it. Namely, you can display the game info, but as soon as the focus moves to another window, it'll disappear again. Can you make it so that the extra window stays open until I choose to close it?

Other than that, it's a fine piece of work :)

No, unfortunately the nature of flyouts are such that they disappear as soon as focus is lost. There is a delicate balance between features and the nature of having a small compact gadget. My compromise is to use flyouts, but at the cost of being able to alway see them. To be honest though, the elemental changes aren't that often. Every 4 hours is the most common change in elemental influence, and we aren't even sure if that is a big influence.

I might be able to make another compromise, and allow you to show small icons on the main gadget page without any text. You will have to learn which is which (I can make tool tip text appear over them) but I really don't want to make it too much larger than it already is in it's compact form.

I've also explored resizing the gadget dynamically, but that introduces tough hurdles and can actually freeze your entire sidebar which requires killing the .exe, manually uninstalling the gadget, and then restarting the sidebar (speaking from experiences while attempting this). Safe to say it's better to leave it small and stable.

I will consider how best to make all sides happy, but I'm not sure I can Smiley: smile

Now that I've said that, I see now there is a way to make gadgets resize safely, however for Vista users you will need to undock the gadget to get the full size. I'm in the process of rewriting things so that users who don't mind a large gadget can see more things.

**** you, Wint! Now I have to go back and add all the features to the android app to match yours! I guess turnabout is fair play, eh?

Also, is the elemental hours/days/etc. confirmed to be in that order? Or are there any assumptions or guesses that I should be aware of when I put that stuff in?

I pulled it all from the game, if you check out the link I put in there about where I got it you'll see it's confirmed.

I'll email you the actual files if you want them, it's all done in JS and could save you some time. Just PM me your email address, I don't know if I still have it in my PMs.

I'm working on something, but it will be a lower priority. Basically I'm going to use the Logitech Application and allow you to select an option that will draw the same information on an application window that you can move around. It is kind of a kludge, but unfortunately there really isn't a good gadget platform for XP that I intend to support.

One of the higher priority things is localization of the Windows Gadget. If I could get volunteers to translate certain phrases into any language you want to see supported, send me a PM. I'm working with Elmer for Japanese, would love to get French (which I think Osarion can help me with), German, and anything else.

I think that site might not be correct for everyone. Specifically those timezones who use DST. Can you check my gadget to see if the leves reset for you at the time it displays or the time the site you linked? I ask because I took special pains to counter the effects of DST and so I want to make sure it's working, especially since everyone will be going off of DST soon.

The correct answer to the question "why is his so much bigger than yours?" is, "I've never needed more."

I have plenty of spare screen space. I'd actually love a version with everything showing at once, with no fly out menus. And kudos for the great gadget!

I don't know if my computer is utilizing DST or not and I've never bothered to check since my country (Saudi Arabia) does not utilize it.

And yes, my PC is set to automatically adjust for GMT.

The windows gadget has a flaw that I've seen in every other one. There are some locations that do not observe DST. Japan is one. The easiest way to fix this flaw is to do an offset test in January and June and compare the two values. If they are as expected, then DST is in effect and observed. (Code Below)

	var rightNow = new Date();
	var jan1 = new Date(rightNow.getFullYear(), 0, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0);  // jan 1st
	var june1 = new Date(rightNow.getFullYear(), 6, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0); // june 1st
	var temp = jan1.toGMTString();
	var jan2 = new Date(temp.substring(0, temp.lastIndexOf(" ")-1));
	temp = june1.toGMTString();
	var june2 = new Date(temp.substring(0, temp.lastIndexOf(" ")-1));
	var std_time_offset = (jan1 - jan2) / (1000 * 60 * 60);
	var daylight_time_offset = (june1 - june2) / (1000 * 60 * 60);
	var dst;
	if (std_time_offset == daylight_time_offset) {
		dst = "0"; // daylight savings time is NOT observed
	} else {
		// positive is southern, negative is northern hemisphere
		var hemisphere = std_time_offset - daylight_time_offset;
		if (hemisphere >= 0)
			std_time_offset = daylight_time_offset;
		dst = "1"; // daylight savings time is observed
	}

I have checked several other scripts out there and all of them have this same flaw. I know this because I am in Japan and the time is always wrong by the same amount. This code fixed it.

My code does indeed fail for Japan's time zone for some reason. Your code works well, so I've included it. Would you like me to provide a link to your homepage somewhere in my settings page or give credit?

I solved this by simply converting to UTC times...

function settimers() {
    var now = new Date();
    var utc = Date.UTC(now.getUTCFullYear(),now.getUTCMonth(),now.getUTCDate(),now.getUTCHours(),now.getUTCMinutes(),now.getUTCSeconds());

// Eorzea clock
    var etime = ( ( ( utc - Date.UTC(2010, 6, 12, 16) ) ) / 1000 ) * ( 1440 / 70 );
    var sec = (etime % 60) | 0;
    etime = (etime - sec) / 60;
    var min = (etime % 60) | 0;
    etime = (etime - min) / 60;
    var hr = (etime % 24) | 0;
    etime = (etime - hr) / 24;
    var day = (etime % 32) | 0;
    etime = (etime - day) / 32;
    day++;
    var month = (etime % 12) | 0;
    etime = (etime - month) / 12;
    month++;
    var year = etime | 0;
    document.getElementById("etime").innerHTML = LZ(month,2) + "/" + LZ(day,2) + " " + LZ(hr,2) + ":" + LZ(min,2);

// Guildleve reset timer
    var rtime = 129600 - ( ( utc - Date.UTC(2010, 9, 19) ) / 1000 ) % 129600;
    var sec = (rtime % 60) | 0;
    rtime -= sec;
    rtime /= 60;
    var min = (rtime % 60) | 0;
    rtime -= min;
    rtime /= 60;
    var hr = (rtime % 24) | 0;
    rtime -= hr;
    document.getElementById("rtime").innerHTML = hr + "h " + min + "m " + sec + "s";
}

New version is live. If you are having DST issues try it now. Also, if your display language is set to Japanese, you should see everything labeled in Japanese now.

Next enhancements will be the ability to make it larger and see everything in one window, or leave it smaller as it is today and utilize the flyouts. Also hoping to work a French translation in there, if I can get the phrases to Osarion.

Awesome Smiley: thumbsup

My testing consisted of me changing my time zone on my PC to Japan's, it's good to see it working in a "real" environment though.

The real test will be to see when most of the world goes off DST soon, if it still works correctly. I'm fairly confident it will, but you never know Smiley: laugh

Hi,

Thank you for your great work Wint.

Your last version does not work on my French Windows 7 Pro, after installation, I can not find it among the gadgets.
But the version 1.1.0.0 works fine.

I too would like an option to see everything constantly (especially Game Info).

Could you also add an option to display dates in French format: little endian day/month/year instead of big endian month/day/year.

Thank you again for this fabulous gadget.

I may have forgotten to remove the fr-FR folder when I packaged it (I don't have any French translations yet), I'll check that this afternoon. As far as the formatting, I will look into it but at the moment the date/time strings are concatenated manually and so I don't know that I can rely on the date/time formatting of Windows.

First of all, Wint thank you a ton for your effort on this project. We all really appreciate it.

I just wanted to make one comment and one bug note however. I saw on the other thread people were reporting that the time flickers beteween X:59 and X:00 on the leve reset timer, but that you had a fix ready for it. I just installed the latest version and I am still encountering this issue.

Also, could you add a section to your zam wiki page that notes the date of the latest update?

Thanks again ^_^

Sure. I haven't updated the keyboard app in a while, it will be my focus after I finish the next gadget update.

Version 1.3.0.0 released.

Features:
-Version number displayed on settings page.
-Link to wiki entry on settings page.
-Option to make the gadget larger (see the wiki for details on how to do this).

This is probably the last update for a while, the keyboard app needs some love and so I will be turning my attention to it, making the same features the gadget has available to the keyboard now.
