Show was good - GDC looked boring with nothing there.
GDC = county fair
Every other gaming gathering = Six Flags
Is that about right?
GDC is a conference
... a meeting for consultation, exchange of information, or discussion, esp one with a formal agenda
The intended audience of GDC is members of the game industry and those trying to break in, not fans. Although San Francisco GDC has become a rather large press event as well, it's really not a fan event. Cosplay is not commonly seen at all, again it is not for fans.
In my past trips to GDC it's always frustrating to see fans get up at the end of a keynote and ask some asinine question about why "such and such is so difficult" or "Why didn't you do such and such an obvious thing." You're making the entire room facepalm, and you don't belong there. It surprises me that it has yet to result in a more stringent screening process for full access passes - which in the end is going to just hurt students and recent graduates who are looking to break in.
GDC is again - a conference, a place for people in the industry to gather, socialize, network and award one another's accomplishments not an expo like E3 or PAX, why are you attempting to compare the two? Edited, Oct 14th 2010 5:25pm by RamseySylph
