I know there are quite a few of these posts already up, but most of them seem to be people just complaining and I dont feel like sifting through all of it.

I, like many people, have been able to install FFXIV but when i click on the shortcut, or run as admin, i get the message "FFXIV has stopped working"

Im running a Dell Studio XPS laptop with:

Windows 7
i5 processor
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730 graphics card
6 GB RAM
Direct X 11.0
(need any other specs let me know)

I uninstalled the drivers, then installed the 10.8 catalyst, which didnt do anything so i updated my drivers from device manager to get it back to my 1600x900 resolution since to 10.8 catalyst didnt seem to get it that hgih.

Ive read so many forums and even watched a youtube video with some kid trying to explain his version on how to fix it.
Still no luck.

Any help would be appreciated.

You need to look at the crash in your event viewer chances are it's an atiumdag.dll error for your fault. If so, http://ffxiv.zam.com/forum.html?game=268&mid=1285119405158033449&page=2&howmany=50#msg1286161462270698679
That thread should help you out. Ignore the title. It is an ATI driver issue found in lots of laptops. Nvidia also has an issue for laptops but it gives a different error.

Hope that helps

Got it working so far, it's currently doing the update.

I had to completely delete the current driver in order for it to install the 10.8 driver because every time id reset the laptop it would revert back to the old driver.

Glad it worked out for you.

Under the COnfig Program for FFXIV then Settings, you can change the port FFXIV uses. The program uses UnPnP so it will have the router automatically allocate the port to you when you start it - so you don't really need to open anything.

But you can if you choose to.
