I am new to sli, do i want my top card plugged into the monitors I am running? also, i have two monitors, does sli work well with two monitors? I want the best gpu performance, I have toggled different drivers, but my two 470gtx's don't seem to be giving me the power i'd expect.
Does two monitors interfere with sli? do i want to "dedicate" anything to physx? and do I want my top card or bottom card plugged in? - currently both monitors are in top card. anyone know more than I, i'd appreciate it.
-12 gigs ddr3 ram, 3.2 ghz, two gtx sli 470's, win 7 64 bit, non-ssd drive (coming). *Playing windowed*
thank you so much!
First off, go to the nvidia website and get the newest Beta drivers. 260.89 should be their version number; released october 11. If you are using older drivers you won't be getting a good boost in framerate from SLI. When you install the beta drivers I recommend using the "Clean Installation" option when it comes up to make sure you get the new profiles that came with the drivers for FFXIV in case you've messed with them in the past.
Second, I always plug the monitors into the top card. I have 2 monitors attached, but I deactivate one of them while I'm playing this game just to make sure I'm getting all the power I can to the game.
You don't want to dedicate anything to physX if you only have 2 cards. Set one of the cards to do physx (usually the one that the monitors are not connected to), but don't dedicate it. That essentially makes it do PhysX calculations with it's leftover processing power. Make sure the setting on that same page is set to do SLI at all. The setting you want says "Maximize 3D Performance".
My framerate improved drastically in SLI with those beta drivers. Before I was actually getting higher fps with one card only.
