What makes you think we won't be able to use two-handed swords?

We will whenever they add samurai. But who knows when that'll be. I'm saying as of right now, its false advertising :-P

Warning. Possible future story spoiler (speculation that may be right in the end).

It's very likely the guy on the cover and opening CS is in fact the 'judge' badguy at a younger age. Since the cut scene he's in at the beginning happens in the past (the crashed airship is now a relic in the world map).
Being the main villain, the guy might have his own special 'class' (as game bosses often do in FF) that can use a 2hand sword, probably dark knight since he's a badguy. Or possibly simply the 'judge' class, which might have 2-hand ability.

The clues at a glance:
-He has scars on his face as apparent on the game box. Typically heroes have perfect skin, especially young ones.
-His expression on the cover is a little sinister and angry.
-He was a young man at the time of the 'big airship/dragon battle'.
-The opening CS suggests he accepts an epic Levequest that takes him to the airship/dragon fiasco, almost like it's his destiny.
-The 'judge' holds a large sword that could easily be a 2hander.

I believe the into CS is showing us his young hopeful days. Probably as the story progresses we'll learn of how that battle corrupted and twisted him somehow (probably killed his 2 friends at least). Which will lead to whatever his evil mission is now that he's attained power as an old, super-powered, corrupted judge.

2h sword would be different from a Samurai's Katana.

Maybe a Barbarian class that wields Claymores? That, or Crusader, but I'd see those weilding Hammers.

Though I'm curious about guns, considering Limsa has a section with what looked to be guns crossed.

Interesting observations batty.

Another thing to consider though with the whole "past" cutscene is that he very well might have use ofthe echo that everyone's character discovers they can use at around rank 20.

The game Nier in japan had one of those fresh faced vaguely effeminate popstar main characters, but when they released it in the U.S. they changed him to a grizzled ugly old man, because testing showed that american audiences didn't respond as well to the younger main heroes.

Maybe SE is just trying to be a bit more gritty... though not trying very hard since all the midlander males look like they could be in a jpop band.

It could also be us witnessing the cause of his downfall, using the echo. I think that just like the FFXI opening CS, we won't fully understand the importance of the characters it centers around until later in the missions. I don't think this opening CS is just showing us "a day in the life of the average adventurer", I think this is showing the 'seed' of the major plot event of this game. Not just the obvious dragon/airship axis, but probably also the creation of the main villain and root of whatever his emo problem will be. Time will tell.

Samurai is listed as using a -great- katana. "Great" in a sword name usually denotates a 2h. Guns are musketeer.
