A version update of FINAL FANTASY XIV was performed at the following time.

*The software client will begin updating automatically the next time you run FINAL FANTASY XIV.

[Date & Time]
Oct. 15, 2010 at 1:45 AM (PDT)

[Affected Service]
FINAL FANTASY XIV

[Important Update Details]

- Market wards have been modified as follows:
* Wards are now assigned specific item categories.
* Items corresponding to a ward’s item category will receive lower tax rates than items that do not correspond to the category.
* For an example of the new ward names and item categories, please visit the following page:

- Targeting and selecting a retainer will automatically open their Bazaar.

- The party bonus system (which awards bonus skill points for battles fought in a party) has been changed so that the bonus is awarded based on the number of fellow party members in the same area who are within the appropriate skill rank range, not simply the total number of party members.

* The party bonus system awards more points when there are more party members within the appropriate skill rank range.
* In this case, "appropriate skill rank range" means a skill rank no more than five ranks lower or higher than your own.

- The maximum numbers of crystals and shards each character and retainer is capable of carrying has been changed to 9999. This is a temporary measure and crystals or shards obtained in excess of this amount will automatically be discarded. The system is undergoing a fundamental redesign and adjustments will continue to be made.

- NPC display priority has been modified. This will ensure that important NPCs, such as Baderon, are displayed first.

- An issue where the retainer would not appear when summoned with the Summoning Bell has been fixed.

- An issue where the retainer would be visible to other players when summoned with the bell has been fixed.

- An issue where text commands could be used to equip items that the player should not have been able to equip has been fixed.

Hallelujah.

First 4 bazaars I checked in the Battlecraft ward had zero (0) weapons.

No weapons.

they just fixed the exp exploit which 3 hours ago a bunch of people on here were claiming did not exist/work.

I'm pretty surprised at how fast they fixed it, and fairly impressed (people were using it to get to 40 really easily)

They also ***** up exp for party of they need to be within 5 lvl of each other. My ls leader said he can;t exp with the rest fop us anymore since he is quite a bit higher lvl than the rest of us. Whatever happen to be casual? What happen to the lvl syn that we had in xi? Did they forget optimal lvl range suck donkey ball that they had to put in a lvlsyn system?

Nice fixes thank you!!!! :)

And NO I dont want an AH thank you, I am happy with this system. AH system is old and far too easy to abuse. Give it a few days and peoples retainers will start to be put in to wards they need to be.

So no extra retainers yet? Today is the 15th, the 22nd is the 30 day mark for a LOT of people atleast 4-5 of my own LS buds were clinging to hope of ATLEAST extra retainers by the 30 day mark I will be sticking it out past 30 days but I can see 4-5 out of like 15 LS members not sticking it out. Funny thing is extra retainers would just give SE more money per month too. I think this might be the straw that breaks the camels back for some people I know.

how will this change the retainer system failure ?
does anyone give a **** about reduced taxes, this is soo pointless ?
if they allready take the effort to check for item types, why not catalog them serverside and present them to the users with a buy option ? dont tell me they actually check the tax rate each time now when something is bought ? is this the fix ? rename market wards and change the tax rate at a buy action ? omfg!

auto bazaard checking on retainer is good stuff (at least 1 of the manuy UI issue somewhat fixed !)
Overall everything is going in the good direction today:
baneron loading faster is win, 9999 shards are win (even if not really usefull, more room is always a win!
The party fix seems good, a 5 lvl gap difference before starting to see a xp loss seems pretty reasonable (it doesn't turn to 0 with a 6 lvl gap remember)

Lot of stuff missing still but 1 step in the right direction. So far I can't see any undesirable unintended consequences.

Please refrain from turning this post into a flame thread about what you think Square-Enix should have done and let it remain a thread regarding the changes that took place this morning. The sheer fact that after about 30 minutes of the servers being back online (at 4:45am EST/1:45am PST) someone is complaining that the wards don't have the proper items in them is just so blatantly absurd that I actually actually wish physical harm on that person. Most players aren't even awake to re-adjust their retainers, never mind even online if they are (most are probably on their way or at work, like me).

Simply enjoy that Square-Enix is taking steps-upon-steps consistently and frequently to re-adjust and tweak the in-game systems to make them more functional than they were previously. If you cannot do that, start your own flame thread and await it to be locked.

Really? No UI tweaks at all?

I thought they'd have something more substantial for the first month (given: even they should know that this month will be the deciding factor for many subscribers).

Ward name changes is BS. They need to stop trying to sand down the edges of the square wheel they've reinvented; it's slightly better but it's still completely useless.

I don't know what's worse: They're inability to communicate any substantial information on whatever the f*ck their working on over there or the lousy patches we've gotten in the first month. A couple days before CE release they stated in an interview they were working on some major patches (including reworking the UI) for the "release" which obviously came and went.

I've already cancelled my account, but I've been eagerly awaiting todays patch to see if there were enough changes to make me give it another go. Not even close is the verdict for me.

Not that any of what they are doing is bad per se, but it is not nearly enough. Quite frankly what I was looking for the most was UI/UI lagg fixes because as it is now, even if the game was fun in all other respects, the UI lagg makes it unplayable for me.

Like some others mentioned I really hope they have something up their sleeve for the next patch, before 30th.

You realize that the servers had not even been online for 30 minutes after maintenance, and people are expecting that the Market Wards be reorganized and repopulated with their servers Retainers? Clearly you missed the point of what I was saying...it seems a little demanding to expected people to be waiting with their finger on the login button at the time servers are back online (nevermind it was an hour early) just to get in and re-adjust their retainers.

Extra retainers are my #1 issue, and have been since launch. I still haven't added any subscription options to my account, and I will not do so until they've gotten this into the game.

UncleRuckusForLife wrote:

It will only give them more money per month once they start charging players for them. There is zero charge for extra characters in this first month, and I'm sure the same would be true for retainers if they were available.

With them not making anything off of it but still having to provide that extra data storage, I'm beginning to wonder if that's what has been causing them to drag their feet on the multiple retainers. Retainers have been ingame since closed beta. I had one and used it. That's several months that they knew it wasn't complete. There must be a reason why they've placed it so far down the list considering players cannot effectively play the game like it's meant to be played when they're saddled with inventory limitations.

Quite frankly, I couldn't care less if it was 30 seconds after the servers came online. That was all the time I needed to see that the fix was no fix at all. Square did a crappy job and they deserve to be called out for it. We all paid for boxes and many of us were planning on subscribing. Many of us are unhappy with the market wards, many of us are unhappy with the inability to purchase additional retainers. It was enough time to see that the retainers are still all over the place. Also, do you honestly think people will only sell one type of category on their retainers? This crap should have been dealt with before launch.

Yes, because before launch, Square-Enix should have been able to read the mind of all their customers in creating a ground-up market/economy system.

Admit it, they're damned if they do and they're damned if they don't. Had they developed a Final Fantasy Online game that replicated all the current demanded systems (ie. AH, PvP, etc.) the masses would yell "WoW Clone!" Yet, if they try to develop something new, the masses yell "Wtf are you doing?! AH/PvP/Etc all work...look at WoW!"

Do we have any solid data on how many Units FFXIV has sold? Ive been hearing 250-300k. Seems like if they were a "wow clone" they might have had a chance to sell 750-850k in their first month like the previous "wow clones" So it seems like they would have been less damned going that route.

They didn't need to read any minds.

They knew the market system wasn't working several months before the game even launched.

They knew it wasn't working in closed beta.

They had pages upon pages of feedback about the retainer system, about the market wards in general.

All they needed to do was pay attention to their beta testers, many of whom were future customers who were telling SE exactly what was on their minds. No mind reading necessary. They just needed to read the feedback.

its not a fix, but he could just level a secondary job with you guys. its not like hes being restricted to a single job. no one is. if he wants to wait for you guys to catch up, then he can work on crafting, or level the skills of another DoW/DoM class, or maybe look into snorting catnip off of high-class miqo'te whores (male miqo'te only).

despite what some people think it isnt a race to get to the top first.

Exactly there were tons of pages of feed back on how much of a failure the market wards were on the beta forums, the US and the JP and the EU forums ALL had the same complaints, SE didnt need to read anyones minds, they just needed to open their eyes.

Really? All they had to do was think back about 8 years and recall why it didn't work in XI. All they had to do was listen to what people were telling them for months in betas. All they had to do was watch\read any one of the many scathing reviews about the game and fix the things that caused to be scathing in the first place. All they had to do was.... Anything but what they did. This update addresses nothing. Nothing of substance, anyway.

I'm so sick of people pulling the "WoW Clone" card when we talk about wanting basic things like an Auction House. With the way some of you talk, none of these things existed until WoW came along and invented them. It's getting old.

I still get the feeling that SE can't make some of you happy no matter what they do. Even if they released a patch tomorrow that magically fixed everything, there would be those crabbing that "this should have been fixed in the beta" blah blah blah.

Personally, the auto bazaar check on the retainers is a HUGE usability boost. It's not so tedious to check out bazaars now. I like it Smiley: thumbsup

Yea, because Rome was built in a day. Please, please go spend your money elsewhere. Innovation and new idea's used to be a cherished thing, something people liked...enjoyed even. But now it's just everyone's excuse to stand on their own personal soapbox and scream "Failure!" If it's not like it was before or like how someone else created it, everyone just grabs their pitchfork & torches and heads out marching.

And seriously, stop comparing Square-Enix now to the Square-Enix that developed FFXI. FFXI was well before these template-built MMO's that spit out on a monthly basis, identical to those before it aside from art direction (sometimes...). AH's were not the "benchmark" to be built on back then. Now that it is, I don't blame SE for trying to separate themselves from the herd of developers that take no risk whatsoever in building new game mechanics. Unfortunately, until the system is proven to work and work well, the pitchforks and torches will remain.

Spot bloody on. SE have admitted they have a lot to sort out and are working flat out.

Not only do people want fixes today they want additions today and also content today.

People really are not clued up, personally everyone should have known it was a new MMO and realised they should of waited 6 months before they got it. Instead they took the risk.

I personally love the game and love the potential even more and these bazaar fixes are perfect.

****, I was really hoping for a UI fix before any market ward changes. When are they going to learn that if the basic of basic commands doesn't work too well, the rest just seems, meh. You fix the UI, you can then forgive all their other ridiculousness that works, but just doesn't work how we think it should work.

If it's not like it was before or like how someone else created it, everyone just grabs their pitchfork & torches and heads out marching.

I'm all for new things, that's the primary reason my subscription is still active - this game is so radically different and, quite frankly, refreshing from the other MMOs out there.

But the Market Wards system isn't Rome, it's more like a trailer park in Alabama. There's no salvaging such **** poor insight and attempted innovation into player-driven economies.

The rest of the game I have complete faith in, Market Wards not so much so.

While it is true that we need to give people a little time to react to the new ward names, I do need to point out that every retainer seen was "re-adjusted" *after* the patch, because a server reboot dismisses all retainers. All those retainers had to have been set out post-patch.

:( just give us a good old AH .... I'm about to cancel my account because its just frustrating when I think of how SE was supposed to listen to the. Community this time around. I would say a really good chunk of us want an AH and instead they are just trying to fix something that sucks. Don't get me wrong the MW is better than nothing but jeez does it suck ***.... I don't wanna click a million bazaars, I do have a life and when I play FFXIV my time is limited. I cant spend so much time looking at all the crap these people have.... WTF!?

I agree with this. I don't feel like it's because of the WoW exp coming soon, more that they were late with the bugfixes. My theory is that they let people get the game (before it was finished) and prepare themselves for what's to come (lvl skills and exp) instead of postponing the release date that would probably upset more people. I'm pretty happy and confident that SE will improve and add more content in the future as the recent dev team update just said. I wouldn't expect less from SE.

Anyone know what the new Anima regen rate is after maints?

"The first adjustment, which increased the speed at which anima regenerates, was implemented during a recent maintenance. "

It's my opinion this is still the BETA release and the release date of the PS3 version is the actual release date.

There are still some serious slow downs to having a fun time playing this game.

Though I love the content, and the abilities to play all classes and professions, the UI is almost a show-stopper.

Hopefully, I can learn the UI after a year of playing or if I unplug my mouse and solely use the keyboard.

1) This new patch has broken the game for me yet again. Wow this truly sucks. I'm getting the dreaded 'Final Fantasy has stopped working popup' the second I get to the character selection screen. And before you try to ask what system specs I have - 2x GTX 480, Intel i7 920 @ 4ghz, and 6GB DDR3 RAM. The system specs are rarely the problem with playing this game it's the fact that it's so **** BUGGY and the patches seem to break it again for me everytime there's a new one. This is getting real old, real fast SE. And where is my SLI support??

2) Final Fantasy XIV's market system is so BACKWARDS even a game that came out 10 years earlier - EQ has a better market system in place now. In EQ they've got a bazaar on the moon. When you get into the market area you can search and sort items on sale by name, type, price, class, etc. And when you decide to buy an item you double click on the seller's name and the game provided a glowing yellow line that you could follow straight to the vendor selling the item. I'm not even going to mention how WoW and Aion's auction systems are light years beyond the idiotic Wards. Who the **** thought it was going to be a GOOD idea to have to click on 25 different npcs all while dealing with GUI lag in hopes of randomly finding the item that you needed?

3) The inability to find Quest NPCs marked on your map or at least having the COMPASS point towards them also adds up to an incredibly worthless waste of time. Ooooh it's so much better and 'cerebral' to have to run around for an hour to find the right NPC to activate this craftleve... NOT! The crafting 'minigame' is fine but why don't we automatically get recipes for items we successfully create? Why is it any more intelligent to have to hunt on ZAM for the recipe every time we want to make bronze mitts rather than to click on a recipe tab for the item that we've already made several times before?

4) The variety of leves otherwise known as QUESTS by the rest of the world, is quite frankly BORING. They consist of the following:
1. Kill x named monsters that pop up. Turn in.
2. Kill popped up monsters until you collect x number of item drops. Turn in.
3. Create x named items.
4. Gather x named items.

That's IT. That's the sum of all leves. How is this innovative or different or better in any way, Square? Where is the fun in this? The only thing FFXIV has going for it is the flexibility of the job system. Everything else in this game has failed to impress. Guess what - taking away the autoattack button didn't make combat anymore 'innovative' or 'smart' it just means you have to mash on the primary attack button more often until you build up enough TP to unleash a special attack. This is fun, why? And what is the reason we can't target other party members by clicking on their names in the party bar like every other MMO on earth? Because that would make healing or assisting party members too easy? *puzzled*

5) FFXIV could have used 6 months more development time because SE obviously learned nothing from the beta phase. I think it needs to go into a Delta phase because these first 30 days of 'retail release' have been extremely buggy, full of crashes, and not fun. PS Don't bother telling me to go back to WoW because I don't play it.

This is the other half of whats going to happen. There are two similar threads about this.

Ryneguy, I know your thread is just actual patch notes from today, but this other info is crucial. Could you add to your OP?

Obviously the development team was forced to release the product too soon. It appears that they are trying to remedy this situation. It's hard to believe someone at Square thought it was a good idea to put the product out, get horrible reviews, and then try to patch it up in a flurry. That being said they are trying in earnest now it seems.

The server verification menu lag thing is unbearable and it does not appear to be something they are considering changing if you read today's lodestone. The Devs talk about lag in relation to the amount of players or mobs in an area, and of an upcoming UI update but never the two together. I get the same server verification lag looking thru my inventory whether I'm surrounded by people crafting in the middle of a city, or out in the middle of nowhere without another player, mob or npc in sight. This "design" of how the UI functions in relation to server verification is really my only major gripe with FFXIV and with me it is a major one. I'm sure the lack of an AH will be solved after they tweek the market ward to the point that it functions exactly like an AH...

Speaking of market wards, making the market wards searchable and trying to organize the items is just turning it into an Auction House. And exactly how does this cut down on RMT? Do the RMT's get as frustrated with the system as the players and quit playing?! The whole Auction House thing seems to be a real sore spot with the devs. It's almost like just because something worked in FFXI doesn't mean it was even considered, or possibly was avoided out of "originality" sake.

Throwing in an extra free month is nice. I'LL TAKE IT! I guess we are all beta testers now. I hope they don't change the crafting system too much. It's the one part of the game I wholeheartedly enjoy! It looks like the game is slowly heading in a better direction, I hope.

Overall, not too bad. Yes sorting and some more UI changes will be nice, but they obviously can't pull it out over night. They made what I'm sure was a tough decision to "buy" some more time, by giving everyone another free month of play. We've already established the game was rushed too early, I think at this point giving us more free playtime to enable them more time to catch up is a fair compromise.

/facepalm

So you are saying you don't care if it is 30 seconds after server came on line, because SE should have just modified people's characters on their behalf to make them fit the correct Ward? Seriously? orz. orz. orz.

So you blame the fact that retainers haven't been moved in the 30 seconds that server came back online on SE ... instead of the "lazy useless who have a life" players who did not log in within 30 seconds of the server came online and move their retainers to the appropriate wards?

Seriously? Do you even read what you wrote or you are just raging for no reason than to waste our time with your warped logic?

You realize that the servers had not even been online for 30 minutes after maintenance, and people are expecting that the Market Wards be reorganized and repopulated with their servers Retainers? Clearly you missed the point of what I was saying...it seems a little demanding to expected people to be waiting with their finger on the login button at the time servers are back online (nevermind it was an hour early) just to get in and re-adjust their retainers.

You DO realize there was nothing to adjust, all the retainers were removed from the wards during the update. You have to actually recall your retainer, then decide "@#%^ it, i'm just going to set it up in the wrong ward".

But you're correct, it's not something that should be complained about in this thread, as it's not SE's fault people are lazy. I think the system is 100x better even with the people that are using the Battlecraft Ward as their moku grass flea-market stand.

A lot of people's complaints are addressed in the other press releases that SE put out.... I highly suggest people check those out...

And I'm amazed at how many people are STILL saying "If this isn't fixed, I'm cancelling my account".

SE gave you an extra 30 day trial!!! Start saying this when that time runs out....

It seems more like a software problem to me. I'm running on a AMD Athlon 620, 8GB ram, and a HD5770, never had this problem. If all your drivers are up-to-date, maybe it's software conflict. Have you try to close all other applications before running ffxiv? (including those that start automatcially when windows starts?)

Not much to say about this. I agree that AH is very simple and easy to use, but I would give credit to SE for making something new, even tho it may not work in the first place, at least they're doing something different than the usual.

Before WOW came out, I didn't recall any MMO would have a pointer on my map saying "HERE is your quest NPC or quest mob". In xi, if I didn't remember it wrong, they didn't have this pointer to show your quest NPC as well (JP release), they just gave you some clues for where is the NPC and you have to look for it. Do you think it's better if all you do is just "click" on the quest giver, then as soon as you clicked "accept", the game would walk/teleport/fly your character to the quest NPC or mob? As for the in game recipes, they're coming in the Nov patch.

Please name a MMO or even a game that has a different definition of "QUEST"? Or do you think a FUN quest should be something like:
1. Log on your favorite game forum, create a post about the game and have 10+ replies. Turn in.
2. Mow your backyard in 30 minutes. Turn in.
3. Do your laundry in 30 minutes. Turn in.
4. Drink up a can of beer in 30 seconds. Turn in.
