I suspect they'll do the same for SE buyers once the end of the "free trial" for people who bought on the official launch date nears.

It's obviously a matter of Squeenix knowing they are short subscriptions and their servers will lose a lot of activity when the CE trial period is up.

I assume it's an incentive to buy the CE, plenty of which are sitting on store shelves.

Given most people bought them for the early access, they need to give them a little something more to offer.

This is untrue. Please read:

Eligibility
All users who registered a FINAL FANTASY XIV service account and purchased a character by October 25, 2010 will be eligible.

All users who created a character option on their service account (re: spent the $3.00 for a character) before October 25th (in about 2 weeks) will get an additional 30 days on their account, according to this announcement. This does not only affect Collector Edition owners, this is anyone who bought the game & made a character prior to October 25th.

Yeah it's confusing cuz they say "For those who purchased the collector’s edition ..." but that's pretty irrelevant.

For those who purchased the collector’s edition and began to play one week before official service began, the month-long free play period is drawing to a close.

That's one of the reasons they are extending the period, for those that began soon, but not only them, also the rest of us.

Way to go SE!

I'll take the free 30 days but this speaks volumes about the state of their user base. Hopefully they can turn things around in the next month.

This and the details of the new search feature for retaiers which basically equals an AH makes me very happy. And since the patch my conjurer is getting more SP per kill again.

The reason it only applies to people that get in this month, is that if you buy the game next month, you get 30 days free anyway. You always get your first 30 days free no matter when you install, remember. If someone buys the game on Nov 1, they'll be free for Nov just like us, and start paying in Dec too.

this is great news for everyone who has had to endure with this game so far. it also shows great face in the company itself trying to make amends with players and also keep the clientel while trying to build it as well. this is greatly appreciatted. one step forward in a long journey to right so many wrongs. but even an inch forward at this point is better then a foot back. way to go SE. you have just kept one more client happy.

Due to the fact that SE is treating buddy pass accounts as full game accounts, I'd say they most likely will get the bonus as well. You also never have to pay $50 for the game when the buddy pass free period finally expires late November.

Great as I was one of those who had decided after my 30-days I was quitting and keeping an eye on the game.

Extra 30-days, be sticking around for thirty more days and see how things turn out.

Think that's exactly what SE wanted, let's see them earn it.
