Yeah. I made a thread asking for this in the feedback forum. I am not crazy enough to think that the thread made a difference - but at the same time I feel listened to. Open world NMs - YES. Especially combined with the ability to job change on the fly - I think I will be very happy to level up all my level 0 DoW classes if it gives me a chance to see/pop an NM I can nuke with my Con.

HAPPINESS.

I honestly don't under stand why they need NM in open area if they are on Leve :)

Since I bet those NMs will spawn only every few hours, and the good ones will be 24-36 hours (which is what Leve timer is).

I guess it is for those times people used up all their leves and want to stand in an little hallway with 30 other people getting 20 fps and spamming claim macro till their wrist break.

because it is fun to just come across an NM?

Not every NM in FFXI was very camped. I came across a lot of them just by accident with no one camping them. Also as long as the open world NMs mostly drop rare/ex stuff people will camp them then move on.

Exactly, and you can see SE did learn that lesson in the later years of Final Fantasy XI. With binding boots, etc. Most if not all items in FFXI now have counterparts that can be obtained via methods that everyone has equal access to without absurd competition.

I am 2/4 for Leaping Boots

but 0/57 for Bounding Boots.

Friend quite with my Leaping T.T But I ended up just buying them from the AH and gave up camping.

Nothing gives quite the rush as seeing an NM, having no idea if it will kill you...and going after it not knowing if you get a cool item. Having both open and leve NMs is having your cake and eating it too...can't get much better than that.

Or the exitement that comes with large amounts of LS members trying to get to you as fast as possible to assist, all the while you're gauging when you have to claim it, yet be able to survive until they get there as other LSs are doing the same.

Can't invite people while in active mode engaged now - so that will also impact the dynamic.

This is the only way I would like NM's. If the drops are tradable ... say hello gil selers and bots.

I will forever remember the Monster Signa (I think? CHA staff) that would always be up on the AH for 1 million plus gil ... for a bloody low level (but good) weapon.

Depending on how they implement this it could go both ways. Open world NMs are fun at times when you actually have a chance to get them. Horrible when you have 0 chance of getting them. I did like in 11 when I would stumble apon some of them, and sometimes even camping them was kinda fun. As long as they make items untradeable, it will work for semi haulting the RMTs. Though they will probably still try to manipulate it so they can sell the item as it drops, and let it go to waste if nobody buys it. Second is if they offer the same, or semi equal piece of gear another way. I always hated being yelled at for not having X item. This will be an interesting addition depending on how SE implements it.

The real gear/gil/stuff is going to be in the Leve Faction quests. They all ready said all the badies will be in there.

Also, as long as they don't copy the king system, or make 1 NM drop a mat needed for a awesome synth than by all means...but if we have another KA or something like ************ SE, I'm buying a bot early this time :-P

I have a love/hate relationship with NMs. While I loved to see them and loved the variety it added in XI, I hate the whole camping nonsense. It did add excitement, but in comes the RMT, the bots, etc.

I'm glad they are being added but I hope that the good stuff remains on NMs from leves and these are more of a novelty (or all rare/ex).

I'm going to have to say BOO to open world -exclusive- NMs. If the same NMs are available in leves with the same loot tables, fine. Otherwise, I absolutely hate the idea of having to compete for or luck into claiming open world NMs. I hated it in XI and I'm sure I'll hate it in XIV.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

Yeah I had that fun yesterday in a Behest when 2 members wouldn't join my PT (out of 3 people doing it including myself). An extremely nice person (sorry I forgot the name) offered to heal us all if we invited him to PT, I tried to form a PT with all 4 of us and they didn't, thanks to the nice person we got the end mob popped, but the non PT two engaged first and I had to stand by watching. Luckily for them, the nice person healed them as well.

Guess you don't remember them killing mobs that dropped R/EX stuff and then selling rights to join their PT before loot rolled... :(

Yeah I figured this out during behest when I was "leader" of a group of about 10 people doing the behest and there were some folks who wanted in the party - but people in the party kept engaging so I couldn't invite. I managed to get a couple of them in the party between mobs but... yeah...

Based on the message from the developers, I feel like they tried to make this a different game from FFXI...which failed, and they're slowly bringing it back to what works, FFXI. I honestly don't care and actually like that. If they literally recreated FFXI with better graphics I would have bought it and not complained.

So... I've been out of the MMO loop for a little too long apparently, hahaha. I'm bad with my terminology, so please don't make fun of me too much for this one :P

What's an NM?

And, what's the Behest? I'm only assuming this word comes from something else because I've never heard it used in the game either >.<

Thanks!

I am really wary of NM's being introduced into the game. In a small community of players, I think it's a great idea. It reinforces the community by giving them something to work together to accomplish. However, I think as the game gets bigger, even as it is now, and how the MMO community has "matured" I think this will cause a lot more grief than good. I really think this will only cause contention among shells.

edit: Just look at these forums...I bounce back between this and the core and look at how well we all get along here, will it really be any better in game?

To the poster above. NM's are Notorious Monsters (unique boss types on long respawn timers), and Behests are group/legion quests/missions available once an hour, on the hour by talking to a battle NPC at any one of the camps.

NM is Notorious Monster, semi--boss battle non-story line related... usually.

Behest is a sort of free for all at each camp every hour, speak to a battlewarden...

Hopefully they get a bit more creative and don't have a certain monster spawn in a certain spot at X time of the day. The monster should spawn anywhere, anytime as they see fit.

This is good if they actually ban botters.. Quite awful if they don't, and the drops are highly valuable. SE has to know that when they do this, a significant portion of the playerbase will be botting from day 1.

Hopefully SE does what it did in FFXI's later years and make a number of the drops bind on pickup. This way if players really want them they can invest the time to try and get them.

This is perhaps the most important addition to the game, at least from my perspective. FFXI appealed to me because of the competition. Some people hated camping and competing for NMs. I absolutely loved it. The most satisfying part of the game was camping and winning an HNM pull.
