I don't mind the confirmation menus per se. Having a menu where you can input items to craft without having a recipe is important, given their crafting model. That menu as the top, one to select recipe, one to view the item, one to view the crystals and crafting conditions... maybe they could condense the last two into a single pop-up.
It feels annoying because of the UI lag, but that's not strictly speaking a crafting issue; I wouldn't mind the menus given a good UI response time. (And having a "do the same again!" button would be very nice.)
They also commented that they would be changing certain recipes...

A. The late-November patch will see adjustments to the required ranks and difficulty levels of various existing recipes, ensuring that players will have a better chance to successfully create items when reaching the optimal skill level.
Boy, won't that be a database headache... on the other hand, so's what we have now, and if they're mostly doing it to make things easier, it shouldn't be as bad as the other direction (we don't want people blowing stuff up that they were previously able to crank out, after all...)
