Crafting Made EasierFollow

#1 Oct 15 2010 at 12:08 PM Rating: Excellent
Thank God.

"For the mid-December update, we will be adding several new recipes, including ones for crafting new gear. In addition, we will be introducing a new feature that will allow players to select recipes from a list of recently crafted items and recipes learned through levequests, and set all of the appropriate ingredients with the touch of a single button, thus making repeated synthesis of a single item a snap!"

That was the one change that really blew my mind. I mean, it's extremely obvious that it's needed, but I thought they'd fight it tooth and nail.

Only letting you quick-select recently used recipes and recipes learned through levequests is a fair compromise, too.

yeah I am happy - it will also mean that you don't have to worry about missing a cool recipe because it got spammed out of your chatbox and you were distracted at the time.

Totally. I hade to expand my chatbox to the entire left side of the window so I wouldn't miss everything being said.

Does FFXIV save logs to disk like FFXI? if so, it shouldn't be long before a parser comes out.

Who wants to bet it will be nested 3 menus deep and you still have to confirm 3 times?

They did say "one click". ;p

I don't mind the confirmation menus per se. Having a menu where you can input items to craft without having a recipe is important, given their crafting model. That menu as the top, one to select recipe, one to view the item, one to view the crystals and crafting conditions... maybe they could condense the last two into a single pop-up.

It feels annoying because of the UI lag, but that's not strictly speaking a crafting issue; I wouldn't mind the menus given a good UI response time. (And having a "do the same again!" button would be very nice.)

They also commented that they would be changing certain recipes...

Q. What kind of changes are planned for synthesis?
A. The late-November patch will see adjustments to the required ranks and difficulty levels of various existing recipes, ensuring that players will have a better chance to successfully create items when reaching the optimal skill level.

Boy, won't that be a database headache... on the other hand, so's what we have now, and if they're mostly doing it to make things easier, it shouldn't be as bad as the other direction (we don't want people blowing stuff up that they were previously able to crank out, after all...)

yeah I hope it means that there will be a few levels of grace period like there was in XI... in XIV you can't seem to attempt much that is beyond your level without massive fails and equipment degradation.... like doing level 10 leves as a level 9 crafter should not be so insane - especially considering DoW/DoM/DoL can EASILY do leves which are several ranks higher than their current rank.

Lol, I still can't complete the R10 Carpentry leve, that asks you to make Maple Longbows, at R11. :(

SE is really impressing me with the communication and changes they're making. Clearly the original crew has been replaced by helpful aliens, but that's okay. I feel like FFXIV is following a similar path to the MMO APB. At launch it was a huge failure, but the dev team did a good job to fix it and make it a playable game. The only difference is virtually all of APB's players bailed and the game is dead, whereas FFXIV will survive because of its trademark name.
