PST whatever happened to /tellFollow

I'm guessing this is a WoW or some other MMORPG thing, but at least on Rabanastre most shouts end with PST me. I'm all for this being a different experience than XI, I understand it's not XI, but for some reason PST is begining to bother me more than Toon.

Everytime I see it, I think Pacific Standard Time. Maybe it means Please Send /Tell? I honestly don't know. I haven't played XI for 2ish years, maybe that's the going word there now. I'm honestly just curious where it came from.

Personally I think I can type /tell faster than I can PST... actually I just did.

Is this a server specific thing, an MMO general thing... ?

It was server specific in XI as well. On Quetzalcoatl PST was rarely used but I sent my mule to another server for 3 months to change his name and that server was constantly using PST in shouts.

PST does, in fact, mean Please Send Tell.

It's not a WOW thing, as WoW used /whisper (if I remember right), and it's been around since as far back as I can remember.

First time I heard PST was last night. I think most people who live in California area will not use PST for please send tell. If your server has more west coast people then you will not see PST used very often.

I agree with you. I hate seeing someone refer to their character as toon, and I don't understand pst.. I mean I know its whisper but the mechanics in this game it's a /tell. Apparently it means "please send tell" but I still prefer just seeing /tell.

Anyway, mini /nerdrage agree.

It's generally PST now, of all the MMO I've played FFXI was the only one where /tell was popular.

It means ... "pssst" like "psst whisper me"... no j/k it's "please send tell".

*edit*
In most MMO's theres /tell and /whisper are kind of ignored, you can still use them but generally you just click the persons name in the chat log or search window and it /tells them automatically.

I got used to that since I quit FFXI and went on to other mmo's, when I started FFXIV I was trying to send /tells by clicking peoples name and going omg wtf i have to actually type out "/tell firstname lastname".... But I'm used to it now so its no biggy.

I think it's just a personal preference. PST means please send /tell, I think it's a pretty common terminology for MMO nowadays, as well as WTB (want to buy), WTS (want to sell), LFG (look for group) and LFM (look for more). I guess you can still shout /tell if you like, people will still understand.

Thanks for confirming it's an acronym. Though honestly I'd prefer PM if we're going to be lazy with our letters. I only played WoW for a few weeks, and I've played quite a few MMO's but PST was new to me. I keep seeing Psssst when I see it. I guess I'll have to learn to live with it...

Then again thinking back, MoB didn't make much sense to me and I use it almost as much as any slang I use IRL

In FFXI on Pandemonuim (before it was closed) it was (/tell) then when we moved to Asura, it was like a different world, with all the new speak, PST was common there

I'm not being uptight, I seriously didn't know what it meant. I do now and it's not as bad, but my personal prefrence is /tell.

I have never even heard of this 'PST' thing until this thread. Never saw it on Lakshmi in FFXI, and I have yet to see it in XIV on Cornelia either.

So I was wandering around Gridania and I saw this guy selling some bows and he was like PST me. So I thought about whether this toon was for real or not because the price right before the PST was way too low. So I sent his toon a tell and he was like yeah man. That's the price. All these other toons are selling them for too much. It was the best PST I've ever run across on any toon. Now my toon has a shiny new bow thanks to PST. As for PM.. well, this isn't a chat room, sorry.

PST has always been the norm on Asura. I've always used it as Please Send Tell. It's fairly easy to tell the difference between someone use PST(Please Send Tell) and PST(Pacific Standard Time), just by the context in which each acronym is used.

Wow, look folks... Just because it was the norm on your server in whatever game doesn't mean it was on mine (and other have confirmed it wasn't on theirs). I asked a simple question, while doing my best to refrain from being insulting to any other players... and I got the answer I was looking for... and then you all pour in and start crapping all over the place. Go get your lolz elsewhere.

This wasn't a troll post, it was a serious query. To which I almost instantly recieved a serious and helpful answer. What have the rest of you provided from Aurelius down? Nothing helpful, or even amusing (at least to me). Go find another thread to troll. Thanks.

QFT.

What kind of person gets annoyed by "toon" or "PST?" ****, what kind of person gets annoyed by any kind of in-game terminology? I went from RO's "S > X item" and "B > X item" to FFXI and WoW's "WTB" and "WTS," and from RO's "PM" to FFXI's "/tell" to WoW's "PST" without even thinking about it. Don't you guys have other things to worry about than in-game terminology?

When I first starting playing WOW I ended a shout message with /tell and got bombarded with people cursing at me and calling me noooob then ending with "we whisper in WOW"

I reactivated FFXI that night.

It's an "initialism" not an "acronym".

Acronyms can be pronounced as words, like "N.A.S.A" and "F.U.B.A.R.".

Initialisms Cannot, like "F.B.I." and "A.T.M.".. and "P.S.T."

Just sayin.

****, they have an ingame internet browser!

I generally dislike the abbreviation PST, not for any MMO-political reasons, but because people use it incorrectly far too often.

"Looking for a new hat, please PST me" <-- and sentences like that pop up constantly! It makes no sense to use the abbreviation in question in such a scenario!

Thus, because of how often it is misused, I just prefer people to refer to the whole thing as /tell; essentially, due to the fact that it can be both a noun and verb, there is a lesser chance that people ***** it up.

Edit: Also, because it does stand for Pacific Standard Time in addition to Please Sent Tell, it's slightly more ambiguous than it needs to be, and certainly more so than /tell.

My comment was generalized and aimed at anyone who is bothered by things that they either think are originating from "that MMO which must be scorned" or just generally getting their manties in a knot over things that don't really matter. Your post was fairly straightforward. Some were kinda wtf, and one was just downright uptight.

I like PST. I use it sometimes. In FFXI I preferred to use {/tell} because we have a worldwide player base. Unless they know the acronym from previous experience, any non-english speaker is going to be lost where {/tell} is universally understood.

I will say that because of FFXIV's crappy chat system, the less text in your message the better. Even if that means saving a seemingly arbitrary single character here and there.

Otherwise you end up having to
Send your messages like this
Because you don't have enough
Room for all of the letters.

The less individual lines someone has to spam at me, the better.

It bothered me because I didn't know what it meant, and before making this thread to confirm it's meaning and popularity I believed it might mean Psssssst. As a few others have said, I also prefer using autotranslate to /Tell. It ensures the message went across.

I have a feeling that if that doesn't change soon, I'll be making more threads like this as the community finds the most efficient way to communicate and "creates" a new game dialect.
