Windows key nightmareFollow

#1 Oct 16 2010 at 7:09 AM Rating: Decent
Please assist guys, I keep accidentaly hitting my Windows menu key on my keyboard. The key sits right between the CTRL and ALT keys. I have lost quite a few levequests (gill and guildmarks) because of it because if I hit it when the game is running its acts like tabbing out of the game, therefore a forced shutdown of ffxiv. Is there any way of swtiching it off or re-assigning it somehow? Thought it was just something that was a minor inconvenience at first but it keeps happening. Not too bad during a party (but bad enough) but when I am farming leves for gil/marks/items etc its starting to get very frustrating. Please help me out :)

If you ran in windowed mode, losing focus wouldn't terminate your session.

use a table knife to remove it from your keyboard? :) Frankly the easiest solution to your problem.

Yup, I've hit the windows key by accident several times myself. Thank Oschon I prefer windowed mode to full screen. :)

this.

i did the very same thing to my keyboard after about a month of playing ff11. unless you have a pressing need to be in windows RIGHT FRIGGING NOW! then id suggest popping those suckers off and calling it a day. youll smile in unrestrained glee the next time you go to hit ctrl or alt and find yourself hitting empty space instead of that damnable windows key.

Purchase a gaming keyboard with a lock for the windows key, or pop it off your current keyboard.

Or play a game that's actually designed for the PC and doesn't have idiotic systems in place that waste your leve if you DC due to the game's own stupidity.

Most intelligently programmed games will manually disable the use of the windows key fullscreen. Then again, those games can also be alt+tabbed out of without crashing.

Personally I've been using the last build of windower and it does a very good job.

Thank you - did it and it worked a treat. I love the new Microsoft 'Fix it' option - saves people like me the fear of messing with registries etc.

..and thank you to all the rest of you guys who gave alternatives.
