Standing on hill killing, bad?Follow

The monster would try to run after me, so I would run along the top of this small hill and it would run back on bottom. Seeing as how I was a THM it kept healing itself >.>

My party eventually caught up with me, but by the time we killed it I had gained 300sp. I didn't see anywhere in the rule book that I have to stand in front of it and take a beating and I couldn't use real life mechanics against it.

Anyone think this is bad?

Like Final Fantasy XI, the game specs will be extremely high for the time, but in about 5 years, an average machine can run it on max settings with little to no issues. Tanaka also expressed interest in making a benchmark program available.

Banhammer incoming.

Didn't FFXI have some sort of rule against using the terrain against a mob? Strategy bad!

^^; In any other game using the terrain, weather and other aspects of the game to kill something is ok. That's kinda of dumb if you have to think of every possible reason to get banned, and NOT do it, in order to play :(

It's almost like saying "Don't use thunder on mobs in the water, because the extra shock kills them faster and that's not ok."

Keep doing it, just don't go overboard right, don't fight the same mob for more than a few min, cap SP. Kill it, move to the next mob. I know i'ma use this to skill up my Con.

Every mob in the game, so far, has a ranged attack to combat pathing abuse. You are doing nothing wrong by surviving long enough to kill a target in the way you've described.

SE should stop the computer from cheating with the pathing exploit before banning players for it.

As someone who has been wasted by a wight that ran three steps and healed itself to full from the verge of death several times.... yeah.

I agree; this is a bigger crime. I understand they want to prevent MPK by limiting the radius of mob spawn and pursuit, but I never know if the limit is 2 feet away from where the mob is standing or 200 feet away. Fighting on top of the mob is not always an option, either. It is frustrating to do some leves when a surgical pull from a crowd of aggro targets turns into a yo-yo tournament.

Regardless of what anyone tells you (unless if what they say is fact), just don't do anything that you're uncomfortable with. If it makes you worried that you'll get banned, or if it just seems a bit 'too' convenient, just go with your gut. Just keep in mind it's your account. While some people might not think it's a big issue, I've seen people banned for less in FFXI.

This guy has the right idea but honestly I wish that SE would fix the pathing - not to stop exploiters but to people from getting stomped battles that they should be able to win with a decent crew and a little skill. It sucks when the computer cheats.

If the rules from FFXI apply, it's only ban worthy if you are using the terrain to trap the mob or get it stuck. If you were standing still and the mob would path to you eventually then you're doing nothing wrong. Probably a bit cheap, but not worthy of jail or a ban.

I just figured since the mob couldn't come near me that SE would do something stupid, it could still hit me though with it's ranged.

The only thing I think they would get ***** about is that it kept healing to full. In order for a mage job to kill something and have it NOT heal in full; my own testing, you can't cast a lot of magic and dart it to death by being right next to it. :(

It'll depend on the GM really. Generally though if you are still in danger of being hit then you're fine. I've seen people told good luck by GMs and I've seen people told to move away from the area they were kiting in before. Never heard of any bans for it though. It sounds like a mob you could have defeated normally anyway so I don't think they'd care.

I think you're fine so long as you're not artificially creating these scenarios. The problem with the pathing issue, is that you could be yo-yoing the same monster for fifteen minutes by not even moving. I've had this happen several times on my Conjurer. I've lost a battle because another monster (wight type) spawned on top of his spawn, and that one wouldn't yoyo and thus I got stomped inbetween heals by the time both of them should've been dead.
