Do you have annoying FFXIV friends?Follow

I have one acquaintance who likes to start every conversation with an in game achievement that I couldn't care less about. I don't know why this bothers me so much, I think it's simply an incompatibility in our personalities. One issue in particular that annoys me is he is a 45 CON, and claims to be completely oblivious to the fact that the way he leveled could very well get him banned. I told him about the situation and he begins acting very smug that since he didn't know it was against the rules, nothing will happen to him. I kind of hope something happens to his account, just to bring him down a peg.

At this point I should probably add this is not a real life friend, I've never met him before. It's just someone I started talking to about a month before FFXIV launched and we decided to play on the same server. So when I don't wish him the best, don't think of me as a complete jerk =p

Another group of people that tends to bother me is the 'know it all's' who actually get information wrong quite often and spread it around as fact. I see a lot of this in my linkshell right now. I also dislike people who say 'Congo rats', which I disliked back in FFXI also, but they're not quite as bad as the others. Lastly I dislike the people who take every opportunity to brag about recent accomplishments, as if their entire self worth is entwined with the success of their virtual character (Kind of like the first guy I mentioned).

So do you guys ever just have people rub you the complete wrong way in your online gaming experiences? Do you tend to just ignore them? Do you call them out on their BS?

Who's a grumpy wumpy bear head then...? :P

Playing a game that involves people is going to have that one factor that we hermits loath, human interaction. People that brag, BS and generally make the game a little annoying just need to be tolerated like hopefully people will tolerate you for whatever your annoying traits are - we all have them. I know exactly what you mean when people brag about their achievements, however if thats whats gives them pleasure from FFXIV then I try not to let it bother me. Your point about them not being real life friends is totally true, the virtual world we call FFXIV is just that. I find the most annoying thing that people do when I play FFXIV is if we are in a party and they go afk without telling, go in 'gun-ho' and get killed or by far the worst, not learn how to control hate or links. What people say can be filtered if I want. Please don't hate me :) I wasnt trying to be annoying :P

Haha no, the main offender is someone not in our LS. You're on santa's good list.

One of my biggest pet peeves is people who ask questions and then ignore the answers. If you can't pay attention to your chat log for the 10-20 seconds after you ask the question to see if there's a response, don't ask the question. Twice in two days someone was asking for something in LS chat. The first one was asking if anyone had any Iron Buckles. I've got over 90 of them. I asked how many they needed. No response. The second was yesterday. Someone asked if anyone had any silver ore. I asked them where they were so I could decide whether I could meet up with them to do a transfer because I had two stacks and some sand that were just eating up inventory space. No response. A little while later they asked again. I told them if they'd be a sport and tell me where they were I might be able to get some to them. Again, no response.

I am who I am and not everyone sees me in a positive light at all times but when I've only been in the shell for a few days, that's not nearly long enough to **** anyone off to the point where they'd be justified in fully ignoring me, especially when I'm handing out free crafting materials.

Then there are those people, typically LS people, who get all hopped up on goofballs at the idea of a shiny new gear upgrade and they bug and they bug and they bug and they grind and they bug and they just won't STFU about it until it comes time to pay...and then it takes them three ******* hours to come up with the gil/shards they were told they were going to need before you even agreed to do the synth for them. And they expect you to wait while they go grind it up.

Sometimes people are just silly.

There is a person in my linkshell who replaces "me" with "meow" and constantly says meow. I'm sure she thinks its cute, but it annoying as **** to me. She also constantly flirts with a lalafell she knew from XI.

I'd bet fifty bucks she is actually a guy too.

I hate the people who fabricate wild ideas and try to convince people they are true. "Hey guys there was a leak and Samaurai Ninja Assasin are being added next update!!! =D"

I hate people that complain about hating other people, then feel inclined to socialize with said people that they hate. *cough*

After over a year and a half of it here on ZAM, I'm actually starting to get used to it.

Seriously though, it does get old. If they had a clue in the first place, they wouldn't have had to ask. But once they get their answer, all of a sudden they're an expert and you're wrong.

Occasionally my headset "breaks". If that doesn't work, I pretend afk.

My peeve? People who probably sit there expecting a power level. I'm minding my own business, then notice someone's gonna wipe! I whip out my staff, toss a Cure their way, do it until they've beaten the enemy, and then go on my way. I was doing this for awhile one time, just farming bees in the one area. As I went I threw out Cures to those doing leves in the area. I start fighting this enemy and this guy starts saying "CURE PLZ!" so being the nice guy I am, I cast Cure. Well this continues, and continues... He keeps bringing over enemies and going "CURE PLZ!" and while starting to get annoying, I oblige. Why? I don't know...

Well finally I'm fighting a tough enemy and running low on MP since I've been curing others too. He stands there and starts spamming "CURE PLZ!!" over and over in say. Before I can cure, he dies. Next thing I know I'm getting tells asking why I didn't cure him, that I was a lousy player, blah, blah, blah... I just blacklisted him and went on my way. Another has to be those who just find it fun to grief RPers. Hasn't happened in FFXIV really, but plentiful in FFXI. You'll be RPing and people start telling you to shut up or do obscene gestures or emotes. One time a Tarutaru decided to run up to a fellow RPer and emote-humped her leg saying perverse things. Someone should have really neutered that horndog...

A real annoying peeve has to be with my roomie... I can show him how to do something and 5 seconds later I'm at it again explaining it. And if he doesn't like the answer he has to ask again, but in a different question.

"Where can I get a needle for crafting?"
"You have to buy it from xyz vendor."
"You said it was from this person, right?"

Or he asks a question with a random assumption. I'll tell him my character's level and he has to ask yet again the next day adding on about 10 levels to it. He can't figure anything out for the life of him on FFXIV yet he's played FFXI for years. Sometime I just don't get it...

Haha, while I believe most of us have encountered some situation to do with other players that wasn't to our liking, all of us are empowered to take ourselves out of the equation. If you don't like someone or how they act/play, yet continue to choose to interact with said player, then there is none to blame but yourself. Just keep in mind that for each world there are thousands of players and hundreds of Linkshells. There's also blacklist and friends list. Make use of your freedom, and keep playing however is most fun for you, and looking for like-minded players and your experience will be all the better for it.
