Maintenance going on? Or possible bug? Looking for helpFollow

Well I just picked up FFXIV, a long time FFXI player and have been eagerly awaiting my chance to return home as it were. However upon finishing the install I get a window popping up notifying me of a maintenance going on, but no information as to it's purpose or estimated duration.

Nothing on the site says anything about servers being down today either so I'm left wondering what exactly is going on. Seems there are no official forums either, least none I could find so I came back to my old haunt here to find out whats up. (I see Allah has changed rather substantially as well in the couple years since I last played XI).

Anyone able to shed some light on this for a returning and somewhat clueless vet? I must say this combined with some of the rather sad things I've been reading about the state of XIV while it was loading is certainly not a good way to start off a relationship.

Hm, I'm confuzzled then. I double click the program icon, get the verifying version screen, then a window pops up that says:

Maintenance

"Notice in Japanese Hiragana"
"The service is currently unavailable due to maintenance. Please try again at a later time."
"Notice in what I assume is french"
"Notice in German"

If you just installed it you should have a couple pf patches to DL before you can log in. Also are you clicking the beta icon by mistake? If you have one that is.

Already downloaded a version update and installed it, and no I never had the beta. I've tried using both the desktop icon and directly from the start menu. also running as administrator, still getting the maintenance notice. =/

Hello hello. I also just bought FFXIV today and am at the same point where you are, good sir/mam.
However, i don't get a fancy maintentance screen like you do, instead the log-in screen just keeps saying "This program cannot display the webpage" So, odds are there is indeed a maintentance going on, for i personally have no idea why i get such messages otherwise, tried quite a few things allready to get it to work but no dice. Perhaps it's for Europeans only since not everyone is complaining about it?

Edit: Oh and just to clarify i downloaded two patches fine allready and after that it keeps showing that screen.
So should be fully updated and all, so can't be that either.

This happened to me when I bought the CE. What my fix (and a few others with the problem) was to update all the new drivers for your system. My fix was the graphics card driver, but others have said it was other ones, so just make sure you are all updated! Hope it helps! Oh, and for the above post. Also, I had a beta IE. Make sure it is the newest IE you can get!

Well after an hour or more of tweaking this or that, updating my gcard driver and fiddling with IE. I Still cannot access the game. Trying to boot up FFXIV still results in a maintenance page where from what I've read should be the log in menu. I'm completely lost as to what to do, and frankly getting irritated.

Anyone have any ideas? =/

I would just say to call SE support I guess. But then again those numbskulls might aggrivate you more.
