I noticed something today that i havent since since the alpha/beta. Was auto running along grid and tried to drop some junk from my inventory. but when i got to one of the final windows japanese writing showed up for about half a second before it was replaced with english.

Do you think maybe all windows are always in japanese but when you open them it trys to quickly load the english text ontop? instead of being english from the start. So rather than just being in english when it trys to load it, it makes lag.

One of the biggest complaints on the Japanese forums is the sluggish UI.

So I don't think so. It's just slow.

I highly doubt that's what's causing the lag, too. It's a larger problem of how crystal tools is written.

I think server lag has a part to play. I remember in FFXI when I was in over crowded area my UI was slow and sluggish too. Just try to remember how long it took to target and start attack in besieged.

its because rather than having most of the game client-side and just occasional server checks, almost all of FFXIV is server side, so every single action requires 2-4 server checks. Add in latency and congestion, and you get the UI issues we're having.
