One of the defining characteristics of Final Fantasy XI was, and still is, how the game inspires the player base to create. The memorable characters and locations gave rise to countless art contests, the rich history spawned many-a fan fiction, and the excitement of large-scale battles gave rise to e-peen videos and the eternal question: "Hey, what song was that in the background?"

Though Final Fantasy XIV has gotten "tuned up," so to speak, by various gaming sites, people are still being inspired to create their own works based on their adventurers in Eorzea. Whether you log in every day to pound dodos, or simply log into Amazon to give the game 1 star, Final Fantasy has once again evoked great passion amongst players around the world.

On that note, let us listen to how the music from Eorzea has been interpreted by fans, and even hear a few new, original pieces tailored to the backdrop of Eorzea.

My friend and I will probably be picking some of those out on the piano ourselves. Great compilation there! It's always awesome to see people with a passion for music and making it their own.

The original FFXI music was good, but some of the FFXI music that was remix was even better. I hope someone step up and do more.

I've been watching for xjustamem0ryx's renditions of FFXIV music on Youtube since last year. A lot of really good stuff.

I've heard the tracks of the current soundtrack.

In my opinion you can't compare it to the excellent music of FFXI.
It has no life and i don't remember any track of it now.
Even the FFXI theme is better than all tracks together.

A great bit of the music in FFXIV is done quite well. Gridania and Ul'dah city music come to mind, with how they fit their settings. And the battle music is also pretty good, particularly some of the battle music you hear during more serious battles during story-related action.

However, and I may catch a little flak for this (or maybe some agreement), the one song I really, really, dislike the most, is the boat music. I mean, my god, could they have made any more of a melodramatic piece for what is effectively the most boring ride on a barge across a strait of water?
