Mor Dhona - First LooksFollow

***WARNING***
The image host site I used apparently has pornographic popups. I apologize for this as I did not know since I use Firefox. Please be wary when clicking on them.

-------------

I was bored yesterday and decided to explore the elusive continent known as Mor Dhona. If you open your map you can find Mor Dhona smack-dab in the middle of the continent, sharing routes to and from Coerthas, The Black Shroud and Thanalan.

However, getting there is a challenge in of itself. I took the route from The Black Shroud since I happened to be in the zone at the time and I tell ya, I died quite a lot trying to get here. The path is swarming with very high level mobs confined in a small space making it very hard to sneak by. Luckily, a lot of the mobs were rather clumsy and quite easy to outrun.

Once I actually managed to make it to the zone-line, the first thing I noticed was the creepy yet awesome music that plays. I was content to just stand there for a few minutes listening to it. I wish I could share the tune with you all, but I cannot, so I can only say this: If nothing else, go to Mor Dhona just to listen to the melody.

After a while I began to explore, and noticed that the place was a bit of a frozen wasteland with crystals jutting out of the earth in every direction. Here are some images of the scenery:

Crystal Stalagmites

More Crystal Stalagmites

A crystallized tree

The second thing I noticed was the ominous tower at the center of the map that is surrounded entirely by water on all sides. Though you can't reach it, you can see it quite easily pretty much from anywhere on the map. It is quite foreboding, as at the top of the tower is the fossilized remains of a dragon seen here.

Seen from the back

Perhaps the best view Although it was taken in the rain.

Bahamut, perhaps?

After staring at the tower for a while, I decided to explore the map. I found that traversing this zone was relatively easy in comparison to actually getting here as it is quite wide open and therefore easier to avoid the aggressive monsters that run rampant in the place. In fact, I even took the time to get some images of the monsters you will one day face here.

Keep in mind that some are better than others as I didn't want to risk death in the places I was farthest away from a camp.

Mor Dhona Beastiary

Ahriman

Basilisk

Boar

Black Bomb

Super-cool looking Ogre

Qiqirn

Creepy-*** Toad NOTE: They draw you in! Scared the crap out of me!

There were also some Toadstools but they weren't anything special so I didn't bother getting an image of them.

That's all I could find. Keep in mind that everything was aggressive except for the Qiqirn and the Toadstools. Strangely enough, the Ahriman are quite easy to avoid in this game.

-------------

That's it for this Lalafell's journey into the unknown. Perhaps when I find another creepy place to explore I will make another post. Until then, enjoy your journey!

Wow cool, it seems like you've taken the time to explore Mor Dhona with a bunch of deaths xD. Those are really cool pics of the monster in that zone, especially the Ogres.

That 'tower' looks like the wreckage of a spaceship wrapped in a dragon's skeleton... incredibly badass. Can't wait to see what's going on out there. Good work.

I'm betting the dead dragon won't be Bahamut, perhaps tiamat or something similar. Very cool looking and I hope we get to see more of the story behind it, instead of just leaving us hanging like the opening CS in FFXI.

If they do they're not my doing. I just needed an image hosting site that had unlimited bandwidth. I apologize if you're offended.

Firefox. Use Noscript and Adblock and you won't have to worry about them.

OP those pictures were really cool! Thanks for taking the time to go out there.

When the game was still in Open Beta phase, and still relatively new, I had a friend show me a bunch of pics he took while out there. He gave me the go ahead to link a few that I liked:

Took some good shots of the keeper of the lake (the dragon thing), as you can see.
This other one, I am not sure where it was from... but I am including it just because I love the mob. XD

Beautiful screenies. And frustrating too. There's all these tantalizing locations in the game and no content/story to back it up.

I've been there too during open Beta - went through Ul'Dah region - very tough to get there. Anyway I went in when there was some sort of weather system on - it was like a deep purple haze (similar to sandstorms in Ul'Dah) - This effect only added to the sheer coolness of this place.

Must admit, XIV really does have the scenery and the "Adventurer" attitude.

I my self went exploring and really should UP those pictures. I plan on doing some more when I can :)

Agreed, completely. When I first saw those shots of the keeper, I couldn't wait to learn all about the backstory, as well as some others:

Just some fantastic locations...
I really, really hope they add some quests in the game at some point to explore the world lore and add in a lot of background for us.

I actually hadn't seen the opening movie before I explored this zone. Once you mentioned it I felt inclined to watch it and I was glad I did. Very entertaining and I suggest anyone else who hasn't done so to watch it as well. If you are like me and the opening movie is very choppy then you can instead watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzC510DpbU0

Sorry, a bit of a derailment of my own post but it is somewhat relevant to the zone, at least.

Has anyone found the subterranean pirate area yet? Sorta like movopolis from ffxi with suspension bridges and all?

Fell into the cracks during beta and discovered the place but haven't seen anything like it since.

I went through there to get to Uldah from Gridania. It is indeed really cool and kind of creepy. I happened to meet a fellow traveler at the outpost who had gotten stranded without anima who told me that there was an easier way to get to Uldah Smiley: blush. It was still worth the trip though. Like a mini adventure.

The Journey to Mor Dhona

Whilst I did make a thread for this video, I think this relates, the "adventurer" spirit does seem to be FF XIV, the cynic in me says "due to lack of content, you're best making your own adventures", but its so much fun to explore, and make your own tales (I do this when playing Oblivion, or Monster Hunter).

There really does seem to be weird and wacky things to find, often only vaguely marked on the map, and with little knowledge of the world sofar, I'm waiting for someone to return from a journey, and SHOUT the city "Thar be dragons the size of whales in them there hills, if you go past the pass at mount doom, through the bogs of ..." well you get the idea! :D

Same. My work's web filter went ballistic clicking on one of those images >.>

Hope the IT police don't swing by asking wtf I'm doing looking at ****, then after explaining it was just a screen shot of a game ... why I'm not busy doing pointless work >.<
