I could not find this particular issue. I had this happen on my old machine which only benced at 2000 and I was getting a new one.

Well I got my new computer:

350033 › On Board Sound
» 055819 › Coolermaster HAF 922 - Mid ATX, 2-200mm fan, No PS
» 089780 › Intel Core i7 Processor 860 - 2.8GHz
» 602627 › 1TB SATA II Hard Drive
» 150238 › USB Keyboard & Optical Mouse Combo
» 221867 › 4GB DDR3 Memory (2x 2GB Modules)
» 270023 › *Mouse included with Combo
» 261679 › ASUS P7P55D-E Pro - USB 3.0, SATA 6Gb/s, SLI/CrossFireX
» 980000 › Badge - Etched Milwaukee PC (44mm x 7mm)
» 980119 › MPC Computer System Box and Packing (21X14X21)
» 980120 › MPC Computer Keyboard Tray ONLY (GP)
» 075509 › DVD Writer
» 300656 › Coolermaster 750W Power Supply
» 650025 › MPC Central Production - Advanced Assembly & Testing
» 687633 › Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit)
» 360121 › Cyber Acoustics 2.1 Stereo Speakers w/Sub - CA-3001
» 422486 › nVidia GeForce GTX460 - 768MB

During the install of FFXIV i got Windows Crash Dump 1x but it rebooted and then went through.
Now while trying to log into the game I get Windows Crash dump when I click "start" right before the screen where you chose people.

Is this a compatibility issue with FFXIV and windows 7?

Or is this a bad configuration on my computer.

The only other thing I loaded on my computer so far in Norton 360 and that went fine.

Any ideas? Or do I return my computer?

If that's not the source of your problem yet, give it time and it will be. Norton is not only shoddy software, it'll also seriously mess up your Windows installation. Depending on what damage it's already caused, you may need to reinstall Windows. Get rid of it, and use Avast, or AVG. Both are free, and work well. Norton was at one time very good, but those days are long over.

Post your event viewer crash report. It's likely very simple and has been covered numerous times here. Then again maybe not ^^ It's more likely a video card issue than with windows 7. Tons of people having crashes over them. Would have to see the report to speculate more.

I have checked my Norton "Smart Scan" rating for the FFXIV boot and login files etc. and selected them as "trusted by user" hopefully this will drain less resources when Norton trying to do its job. Together with game graphics the PC gotta handle a lot at the same time, and I am guessing that's what caused those crashes.

I am not very computer savy but do enjoy playing this game. I really have no clue how to post eventviewer crash reports.

I reported this issue to the company I bought the computer from and they will reload everything for me for free. They will reload windows then install FFXIV for me to make sure it is loading properly.

This is the answer I got from the computer company I am taking my computer to have it reloaded:

"my technician and I did some investigating on this already. It looks like that if you have the 64 bit windows 7 installed, you have to save all of the files in the correct folder. IF they are not in the right folders, it can have issues. To simplify this, we will probably install the 32 bit. It is more friendly for installing games and such like this. The license key you bought is designed to work with either 32 or 64 bit, but we usually install the 64 bit."

I am hoping this will fix my problems. Will let you all know if it does. You can probably close this if you wish.

I would like to add one thing though. I have played many many games over the years and this type of thing just blows my mind.

In order to play a game you should NOT have to be an IT technicial to get it to run.

There. Rant over.

I am running windows 64bit so that shouldn't be an issue. When I get home I will check where I have the game installed.

If your system crashed while surfing the web, it's not the game's fault.

Keep in mind, if you go to a 32 bit version, your RAM will max out around 3.3 GB.

I know that the game didn't cause it to dump when serfing the web. However, it wasn't util it crashed the first 3x while loading this game that the dumps started happening.

So either way I need to have windows 7 reloaded and start over. Thank you all for your answers.

I will look into the Norton 360 Smart Scan to allow this game also.

Will also review an alternative to Norton 360. That is the only other thing I loaded on the computer and it actually makes more sense that this could be part of the problem as suggested in a prior answer.

I really would like to keep the 64 bit so may try to use a different virus protection.

Sorry for all the posts. I am just frustrated as **** but am probably looking at the wrong culprit.

I am on windows 7 64 bit, and game works fine. So it is not a compatibility issue with windows 7.

If you want an alternative to Norton that is free you can try "Microsoft Security Essentials" it is free and is fairly good. It is from Microsoft obviously, and is free to all validated copies of windows Vista, 7, and XP. Though it is 32 bit only for XP.

Seems it was Norton 360 causing the issues. Unistalled it and installed the Microsoft Free one and so far no problems.

Thanks for all your help guys.

I have also ditched Norton and use VIPRE. Now it is a breeze.
