Thoughts on a possible feature suggestion?Follow

As some of you can relate, I work my 50 hours a week, and have a wife and kids. This limits my play time (which I don't mind, except the work part). I had an interesting thought that I would love to see incorporated into the game.

When I'm at work, I can't actually play the game. I mean, I could if I really wanted to, but ethically, I couldn't justify it. Now what if they had it where you could log into your account and at least manage your retainer's bazaar and inventory. I think that would be a neat feature to allow me to handle a few of the more mundane tasks while I'm on break at work.

What are your thoughts on this feature? I can't image it would be all that challenging to implement (as opposed to writing a full game). Would you find use of a feature like this?

I would totally use a feature like this. iPhone/Droid app. {Yes please.}!
FFXI Character: Strummer; Server: Odin; 99DNC, 99PUP, 99BRD; LS: Goonies
FFXIV Character: Strummer Sleipnir; Server: Malboro; Archer 24, Goldsmithing 20; FC: Goonies

I wonder if SE would even consider this feature? I would love to see it for my iPhone as well.

while it would be an awesome feature and I'd be all for it. What about those peeps w/o a smart phone? It's not like you have a super advantage over them or anything by managing your bazaar on a retainer. But it is leaving some of the player base out... What might work is a web app that you can manage your retainer from. (smart phone accessible) that way that doesn't leave any player out since you do in fact need a internet connection to play the game.
FFXIV has it's first official RMT'r: Zyuu

I don't mean to demean you or anything, and I do think it would be a very cool idea, but SE will never do something like this. They aren't the type of developer that would ever consider something like this. Don't get your hopes up of something neat like this ever coming out of SE.

I'd go into more detail but right now I'm taking a break and am fairly mentally exhausted from some other work that I've been doing today. I'll leave it to someone else to cover this.

This is what I thought about a lot of the things that the dev team never did in FFXI (or took years to do). Even then, I don't think this would be as simple as you're making it out to be. SE would likely worry about abuses in the system, such as allowing/blocking access based on whether or not you're logged in, and where your character is located. They'd probably throw a fit saying that people could log out in the field, open up the app and work with the retainer despite the character not being proximate to the city. They'd also likely dismiss the concept because it detracts too much from the gameplay experience and doesn't fit in appropriately (like why retainers exist in the first place, because it fits in with their concept of the realism of the game). An app to subvert the process would likely be viewed as unfitting.

I guess I did go into a bit more detail, but now I'm hungry.

Oh, I have no doubt in my mind that it would never be implemented. I understand that, but I'm just curious if other people would find it useful. I would love it. I know it won't, but if we don't have dreams, then what do we have :)

Also, really, from a programming standpoint, it wouldn't be as hard as you would think, as I'm sure a lot of their information is database driven, and if it were a fairly simple app that connects to the database...anyway, again it's just a fun little idea.

What I would really love is for SE to give us an Auction House so we don't have to worry about managing our dumb *** retainer(s) in the first place.
