Retainers Standing outside of their areaFollow

I've noticed many retainers that are not standing within the "call retainer" area of market wards. How are people managing to get their retainers to stand in the central area between the two wings? If this is an exploit, why are the perps not getting slapped with temp bans for their transgressions?

Having a retainer 5 feet away from the others is an 'exploit'? ....

It's probably just lag, and certainly nothing to worry yourself over.

noticed that too, probably just being clever with the retainer's spawn mechanics. Not an exploit so cool your jets haus.

It's not an exploit. It's so easy to do I'm surprised it *still* hasn't been posted all over the place.

Start in the "Call Retainer" area. With your menu open, run toward the center. Right before you leave the call retainer area, hit the Call Retainer button, and keep running. Due to the delay when summoning, your retainer will be outside the call retainer area.

That said, I really doubt not placing your retainer on top of someone elses is worth temp banning.

For a while I noticed a trend that still exists (just not as bad) for everyone to pile their retainers next to the transition area in the middle of the ward. Pretty stupid if you ask me. The game places a limit on how many models can be loaded around your character at any one time. Many models in one area = very small radius around which your character they will appear. Jam your retainer in with the cluster of retainers already there and half the time they won't all load meaning your retainer runs the risk of being invisible to people who might have otherwise been inclined to browse. Makes me wonder if those aren't all people trying to get their retainer to spawn in the middle area and just gave up.

Or you could put your retainer in the proper ward and not have that problem at all (and yes, people do buy stuff in those other wards)

All the reasonable priced fishes I put in the Grocer Ward have sold for the last 2 nights.

No idea why everyone shove their retainers in the Weapons Ward.

Man, i search the other, correct wards FIRST! If I can avoid the battlecraft ward by any means ill do it (unless i actually need a weapon). I bet im not the only player out there who feels that way.

You know, ever since the labeling of market wards i've had a MUCH easier time buying and selling stuff in the appropriate ward. Yes the first ward does still have a good number of people with incorrect items in it, but overall the ward changes no longer make me fear stepping into the wards and I can usually find what i'm looking for relatively quickly. Selling has been the same, i've been really pumping out a lot of dodoskin shoes right now and they are selling much faster than before the market ward changes.

It happens in every ward. I don't put my retainer in the wards. I transfer too much stuff to and from and running back and forth to a specific ward in a specific city is a horrible inconvenience to me. There are some wards where there just aren't that many retainers and loading models is a non-issue but you still see people piling their retainers near the center area. In more densely populated wards, it's still a significant issue. It doesn't really bother me all that much, I'm just saying that if your goal is to maximize your chances of having someone browse your retainer, jamming it in with 20 other retainers in one small cluster is a pretty stupid way to go about it.

Not asking for bans (which would be stupid). Just wondering why they're still there given SE's trigger happy ban hammer philosophy. Clearly if the game is designed so that retainers can only be placed in a certain area, taking advantage of game mechanics to put them somewhere else would be an exploit.

There is an advantage to having your retainer placed in the middle. It will get more hits. Just like in retail marketing, where you place your wares is important. The stuff you want noticed is up front. The stuff everybody must buy anyway is at the back, giving folks lots of opportunity to impulse buy on their way to getting that liter of milk.

Anyway, not trying to stir things up. I was just curious as to how it was done.

I'm not saying this isn't an exploit, it probably is but in the big scheme of things I would be pretty annoyed if SE actually dealt with this since at this time there are much bigger problems to deal with. I would prefer they use their resources to add content.

Oh, and don't apologize, your post was perfectly valid and did lead to some interesting discussion about retainers.
