"Plus Gear", as you described it... I usually end up crafting plus gear when I start off with high quality materials. This makes the starting durability and quality of an item synthesis higher from the get-go. With a higher starting durability I can push the quality even higher (sometimes up to 500) with room for touch-ups at the end of the synthesis. Touch-ups usually do the trick to make gear +1, +2, or +3, but I assume that a higher quality before being touched-up raises the chances of a "+" occurring while touching up.

ok but ... what does it do that non-plus gear does not. apart from having a plus and a number right after its item's name.

I got my first touch-up +1 last night (on a bronze dagger, yay!)

If you look at the statistics of gear with a +1 on it, there will be an icon by stats that have a bonus. Exactly how much of a bonus those stats get, now... who knows?

I haven't seen HQ gear giving any more benefit other than more durability than normal. As far as I can tell and ever cared to test the amount of stats you get from a +3 is the same as the NQ version.

HQ items increase the max durability and the stats on the gear. From what I have read from other people's input I think that each '+' adds 5% to stats around 10% to max durability (?), but I haven't done further research. See This thread. So +1 on weapons and armour can be beneficial at higher levels when the % bonus is more, but on accessories with only 1-5 stats, the bonus isn't all that much.

My experience with canes and wands was thus.

+1 Elm/Ash Cane - +3 Magic Potency / +6ish Magic Accuracy
+2 Elm Cane - +6 Magic Potency / +12~15 magic accuracy

It isn't reflected in the item tooltip, you have to look at your stats and see how much is being added to notice the difference.

I think at this point + gear i won't be focusing on it until I hit rank 50 and waitin for the level cap to increase.
Which by my guess won't be for about a year anyways. This is simply speculation btw, in case someone is asking for proof.

I have found that my Willow Wand +1 definitely has a higher durability rating. And it appears to degrade slower. I keep my regular Willow Wand on hand for when I hit red with the +1 version. But there is definitely a durability perk to the HQ versions of items.

While it is true that the item itself doesn't say how many more of a stat you get from each +, you can see the difference if you look at the stats on your character sheet.
