Prediction of Company & AHFollow

My predictions...

Company will function like mini AH and will have search enabled capability. To register as a company however, the LS has to commit and maintain at least X type of products to be sold. As the number of transaction grows (taxable), the companies in each city will be ranked. The ranking formula may factor in:

1. coverage of products from each DOH/DOL.
2. PLayers optimum Level of the products
3. Volume of monthly transactions

To be successful, a company will need to consistently prove that they have the widest coverage of products at the best prices. Players are free to join more than one company, they will pay city tax and company tax to consign their products to be sold in the Company AH.

There may be one single company with a few afflilate Linkshell supporting the companies.

Companies will start off with Y number of selling slots and the selling slots will expanded after milestones have been met (e.g. average weekly transaction size of 5 million gils etc).

What do you think? You read this first from me on Zam.

Sorry, but from what I've heard in interview information regarding companies (which is very, very little information), it sounds like the use of the word "Company" is more like a military fashion, in which multiple Linkshells might become ally's in a fashion that creates a "company", therefore creating a logical inclusion for smaller Linkshells in the larger picture of possible late-game content. Not "Company" as in business-orientated.

I think you are completely wrong. Nothing else to add other than I don't think anything of what you wrote will come to fruition.

I think SE has no clue what they are doing and are stuck a decade or more behind industry leaders like Blizzard.

Not sure why everyone is pooh poohing this theory when nobody has any real information to base any predictions or counter predictions on.

Personally, I think it is a cool idea.

If you had to be part of a large company to sell things on an AH, that would pretty much kill RMT inflation techniques yet give the players what they want. It would be brilliant really. Will it happen? Who knows.

Would be cool if they implemented something to the OPs effect. Offer fee discounts for sales to members of your 'company'. You could have stuff for sale that was only available to company members. Each company could comprise any number of members/linkshells. Any player could be part of any company, make them operate like a trade linkshell.

Sadly, I tend to agree with Ryneguy as to SE's definition of company tho.

It's a neat idea, having "guild" run markets.

When I heard SE mention companies, I always think of it in the military sense. company - small military unit; usually two or three platoons (platoons being linkshells.)

I think most people will take offense to the wording of the OP. "Holier than thou" approach.. and waiting for the "see! I said it first guys! guys!? guys!!!! - I said it first!!" post that will follow if something like this actually happens. Get over yourself.

And the linkshell i'm in pretty much does this already, sans the actual front end store. All craft for each other, massive trading markets.. and people setting up bazars near each other in wards. I think this is what SE was thinking with the 'market approach' to the buying/sell ideal of the game.

Couple questions: First, can someone post a link of the interview that actually mentions companies?

Second, could there maybe be something lost in translation? It seems to me that the Japanese language is highly complex. Though in the english language 'Companies' can mean both a business corporation and a group of soldiers, we have to ask ourselves if it is the same in Japanese. Certainly in the english language "army" doesn't mean the same thing as "corporation." And we all know that the japanese are very astute business people. It stands to reason in my mind that if we look at the original interview (someone familiar with the language of course) I think we can learn a little more about this?

Companies are a combination of linkshell and alliance for what appears to be end-game work rather than, what linkshells are, which is a social network

Tanaka: In FFXI, we had the "Linkshell" which was simply a way to connect a group of users. For FFXIV, we are preparing "Companies" which will make for more tightly-knit groups. We will set it up so members of a Company can communicate in-game or on the Web. We want to have an official site where these players can get together.

The posting is actually on ZAM:).Tanaka Interview

Thanks for the quote rfolkker, but I don't think it sheds any light on the situation. The quote refers to a Linkshell and Company as seperate distinct entities without telling us what a company truly is. If anything can be gleamed from that statement it would be that FFXIV is moving away from the LS mentality and adopting a more traditional 'guild' structure.
