I have played ffxi for 6 years and never had a real issue with SE ffxi was balanced and was fun.
Wish i had not stoped playing for 14 however ><
Im rank 20 MRD and find lvling a complete and total waste of my time to gain a level im grinding for almost 5 hours in a party and if im not in one... well there is no hope there at level 20 i should be easy getting through ranks not spending all day on them ><.
10-50 SP gain solo when the sp to level is somwhere around 20k...this makes me a sad panda.
How in the name of jebus is this suppose to be a casual game? if u think that at rank 40-50 Sptnl will be HUGE and gaining SP solo is RIP at rank 18.
i loved ffxi because it was a set fair way to level where exp gained was fixed now i feel like i might aswell be given a Auto level up dice its that random.
Leves are OK but are just the same thing reskinned start leve run to three bugs kill them one runs kill the ones it runs too boom leve over next leve woot! i know how to do this because its exactly the same as before!..
Fair enough the game is new and i will give it a fair go but for a company like SE who in the industry are God like i would think that they would have done better.
Atm it feels like one of those Free MMO's like Kal online that just feels basic annoying and every time i see the logo i feel depressed lol

Also is it me or is the social factor in the game really low ive got 5 linkshells and all of them are full to the brim of people but if i see a line of text every 15 mins im lucky tho prolly as depressed as i am that a bought a new rig for this junk.

Depends on who you ask. Aragorn would say there's always hope. Gandalf would reply that there never was much hope. Just a fool's hope. Most people seem to be Gandalfs.

I think a lot of people are confusing "Casual-friendly" with "quick and easy". A casual player is a player who looks to log on for maybe a couple hours at a time. Maybe the occasional Saturday afternoon.

Such a player would have a difficult time with XI since you really need to party to earn exp well enough for it to matter. In order to party at higher levels, you generally have to wait for a party invite. Party invites typically take awhile, then there's travel and prep. So in the time frame a casual might want to spend in the game for the evening, all that might occur is maybe a party invite, get out there, then spend 1/2 hour actually partying.

But with XIV a casual player can get online and maybe do some leveling with a few leves or spend some time in the markets (It WILL get faster once a search function's implemented, assuming that the item you are looking for is even being listed by someone). The other night I was able to log on and do 4 guildleves and finish getting my goldsmithing, which I started this past weekend, to 10. Took maybe an hour-ish. Then I logged off feeling accomplished and spent the rest of the evening hanging out with my wife. Now I'm not progressing as fast as others (One jack-off recently pointed this out to me. I play only crafting, saving DoM/DoW for when my wife joins after PS3 release, and so this person told me I'm only enjoying 10% of the content and that this person probably has leveled crafting more than me and therefore must know more about it than me.). But fast progression doesn't mean as much to me as enjoying the game does.

There's always hope.
Once they throw out 80% of the "great new inventions" they made, this could actually turn out to be a very good game.
To the poster above: FFXIV is the most casual-unfriendly grinder I've played in years. Wherever you go to, you run for half an hour at least, and if you use anima you'll be out of it in no time. 6 Anima/day = 1 teleport/day. Works until you have to reach some distant camp or go back to town to repair gear every hour. Or when you have 6 crafting classes leveled to repair your own stuff. Casual fun? Grinding the same "kill x amount of innocent y" levequests over and over?

Exactly. When something doesn't work the first time, you throw it away and go back to the old ways.

Excellent.

We really want to compete against World of Warcraft and for example the new Star Wars MMO.

When a wheel runs perfectly well, only a fool would cut off the round parts and turn it into a square.
That's what they did.

i see what you mean tho i have to admit Crafting is hella lot faster to level that say a melle or a mage because the crafting is pretty much a fixed sp system that lowers as you level past a synth i do play casualy and if it means that i have to just play DoH classes because i cant level a melle or mage cuz of the random sp gain 10- 50 sp a solo kill of a orange or red mob well SE can shove it up there ***.

New background on my PC LOL!

Also Grinding is no fun at all yes we have to do it in most MMO's but really if the system is leves then Grind grind grind then that = Poor game creation

Oh, I didn't mean that as "play crafting onry". I'm sure a casual can log on and knock out a few battlecraft leves in just a couple hours and gain respectable SP. Probably what my wife and I will do when she joins, pair up (maybe have a LS member or two join us) and go do battlecraft leves until we feel like logging off.
