Regarding Hardware RaidFollow

Sorry if this is not the correct forum to post at but i can't find any Hardware forum within the FF14 group.

Currently i am only using a single drive to run my OS and FF14. Of coz i have another 2 drive which i used to store data.

Now, as i believe most will agree that FF14 have way too many files to be executed and they are quite large in size as well.

So what im thinking is that if i setup another 2 HDD running them in Stripping RAID and just to install games on it.

Will it helps?

With my system spec, other than at camps & town usually i'm getting avg 50fps.

Only when at the 3 main city, my fps can drop to as low as 14fps, which in my case is pretty annoying.

What i notice is that when in the city, there is always a lot of activity on my HDD which link to my fps. When at certain area within the city area when there's not much hard disk activity, my framerate is around 24+ which i'm happy with this number.

So can anyone here share your experience on RAID setup with FFXIV?

Appreciate that.

I'd skip it. You'll get marginal (at best) improvements and even then you'd only see it while the game is loading (in game fps for the most part will not be effected by a raid setup).

You will however inherit the headache of keeping the raid array going (if your pc crashes, you won't be able to simply recover data by tossing a hard drive into another setup, etc).

My main OS install (and subsequently my games) are installed on a striped raid array consisting of two 10,000 rpm WD raptors, and I don't know that there is much of a difference to be honest.

Base on my previously experience with hardware, most of the time when the load on the HDD is high, it will pull down the performance.

In most game that i play, usually those that have high HDD activity can eats away the frame rate.

I'm lead to believe that in my current situation, my system config can handle the game outside of the cities and camps.

I'm happy as long anything can stay above 24fps because that is the max i can see with my naked eyes.

Its annoying when crafting inside the city as the fps will drop to around 14+/- and can be quite hazardous.

PS: Wint, have you tried running FFXIV on your normal drive vs your Strip RAID setup?
