Two intelligent posts and back to back... what are these forums coming to?

I get the feeling that this is the sentiment shared by most everyone on these forums with the exception being the minority(fanboys and haters). These posts pretty much sum up how FFXIV is doing at the moment. I actually thought about trying out a buddy pass to see if SE could work a miracle sometime before now and christmas, but the thought of trying to set up an account scared me off.

Everyone thinks the game sucks in the beginning. Even if the game does mature into a great MMO, you can't look back and say that just because it improved that it was always great. Don't be silly.

Also, babies are ugly. You don't tell the mother because they don't really have a choice in the matter. If they made a test tube baby then this right is forfeit. SE in this case made a test tube baby. Unfortunately for them they thought that they should experiment and stray from the normal measures to create something 'cutting edge and revolutionary'. Their kid looks like a cross between Lady Gaga and Sloth from the Goonies lol

The fanboys are like the mother with an ugly baby that keeps talking about how beautiful their baby is. And you know, that deep down in their heart, they know they have an ugly baby.

Iono though, alot of times ugly fat kids turn into good looking adults.

Exactly, but Mokatu seems to think that because SE's kids might someday be hot that he can look back and say they were hot all along. Megan Fox didn't just fall out of the ***** looking delicious(sans toe thumbs).

I'm questioning the current results of the poll, since it went from one percentage split for a day or two, then switched to 50/50 and has stuck at that amount even as around 80 more votes went into it. It just seems fishy to me. Hopefully I'm wrong, but I get the feeling there may be some people using multiple accounts to try to push it one way or the other, for who knows what purpose.

Regardless, it's clear that the timing and contents of the November update is going to have a noticeable impact on SE's subscription numbers. Thanks to all who cast their vote, and to charityneverfaileth for getting the poll together.

Personally, I was really looking forward to this game but just cant hold any love for it. I would and have unsubbed, uninstalled and apart from reading these forums now and again in the hope that the fundamental things have been changed to me it just is nothing more than a shoddy console port thrown onto a PC, and so blatent as by its unfinished state that it was rushed through to try and beat the release of Cata for WoW. (why, because they knew that with such a blatant and very poor port to PC, had they released after Cata their sales would be no where near the figures they were for the release because a vast majority would hold no interest in its release, well apart from the couple of hundred thousand FF fanboys).

Anyway, back on track and apologies for going on. - No to resub, once bitten twice shy. And probably will not in the future either. Too little to late imo. Star wars , Forgotten Worlds, Cata, and prob (cant remember its name, doh, but the one with space marines and inquisitors )would be out by the time any workable fixes were made to this game.

Game will probably rock on the PS3 btw as thats what its designed for.

it would be unfortunate if people were trying to manipulate results, but honestly, from what i've been reading, and seeing in game, 50-50 sounds about right (give or take a few % either way).

My honest impression of the game right now is that I feel sorry for the people who are still playing. I'm left wondering if they really don't have something more fun to do.

But brand identification can cause people to do some weird things. Unfortunately for some people, the fact that SE made a FF MMO and they love FF is enough to keep them playing. They're often accused of just being fanboys, but good brand identity is essentially brainwash.

And I know a lot of people like myself REALLY WANTED this game to be even just mediocre, but I think a lot of those people have jumped ship too. Right now, most of that group is just keeping tabs on the progress of the game and hoping that it turns around. Honestly though, I don't see it with the few simple updates they have announced thru December.

Fingers crossed.

There are a whole bunch of people on this site who many believe are working with a variety of sock puppets. Most regular posters know exactly who they are.

Consider that this vote is 50:50, and yet the boards are constantly filled up with hate threads!

No MMO release from a large company like SE is remotely this bad. That's the point. We all understand that releases aren't perfect. The problem is that FFXIV is ridiculously terrible in comparison.

This. A month ago I would have said bsphil is an a*hole. But he starts to make more and more sense.
I'm running dry on motivation to continue playing myself finally. This game is, for a major company
release, actually right that: ridiculously terrible. A joke. A nuisance. I even had to turn off the
squealy ever-repeating guildleve-music (which actually helped for some time).

I already set up my account to cancel once the free playing time is over.

I haven't played since the first two weeks I bought the game. I don't feel any desire to play it. However, I'll leave it installed on my laptop and will keep myself informed of any upcoming updates that will make me want to play. Definitely looking for updates in overall content (more things to do), areas more fun to explore, a Auction House and a better UI.

I wanted this game to be so good, and I think a lot of other people did too. Therefore, I think that's part of the reason why people think it's worse than it is. Expectations were just so high that all the downfalls seem that much worse. :(

I read something in a research publication recently that I think aptly summarizes many FFXIV players:

Quote:
Plass writes with inventive humour about the warmth, misery, triumph and tragedy
of belonging to a charismatic church. Plass, rather like Hornby, has a
tendency to ‘send up’ his own expectations. He has an ironic love–hate
relationship with what he holds most dear – his church. Like ******* Football
Club for Hornby, Plass is mystiŽed at times by his own support for them, in
spite of their mediocrity. Plass tries to be a good supporter, but in reality his
condition is far worse: he is an addict. He suffers hours of average, dull and
disappointing services, in the hope that there will be some alleviation. When
this eventually happens, this then becomes the incentive for staying on as a
fan. Meanwhile, he tries to test his faith by praying for his legs to lengthen,
move a paper clip by prayer alone (pp. 19ff), and to be as faithful as he can
be (pp. 137ff). At times, the irony is almost mockingly cruel.

Keep praying for that paper clip to move!

I also really wanted to like this game. I had two other friends ready to play it on release. I was one of those folks that subscribed to Fileplanet for $7, signed up for their Twitter feed, and then sat there spamming the site to get a beta key.

After playing beta for a couple days I realized how bad it was, and that there was no hope for it getting fixed by release. I couldn't even make myself play a completely free game after about 3 days of slogging through it.

I canceled my pre-order, and my two friends did the same. I stick around hoping they fix it before Rift beta starts. I am starting to lose hope.
