You know, I played FFXI for quite a few years, about 6 total when I subtract the time I was away from the game. And never, was there this level of communication from Square-Enix. This just showed up in my email:

  • Several adjustments to the map system
  • Changes to the Chat System
  • Improved targeting features
  • Broader customization to the keyboard setup
  • Addition of Notorious Monsters

  • Along with touting the increase of free time that we're already aware of. Good news, although we still don't know when these changes are going to come. But all of these features are going to be implemented/enhanced. Great news for all. Smiley: wink

the search function is a good update, however, I'm concerned if we will be able to see the pricing of the items in the search box.

Not enough updates, we need more stuff, much more.

Actually, we do. Did you miss their latest announcements on the Lodestone? These changes are slated for late Nov - mid Dec. But yes, definitely very exciting.

Personally, I think the Market Ward search will have a major impact on how players SELL their items. Once we're all accustomed to going into the particular ward we need (based on the item we're buying) we'll just plug in the item we're looking for, and the retainers selling them will somehow be marked according to SE. Why is this such a big change for selling? Because if we're not going into wards and randomly clicking every single retainer within eyesight, we're much less likely to be buying all that other misc. crap people sell with no rhyme or reason.
Thus (I sincerely hope) forcing people to start selling their items in the appropriate Ward. This will of course become easier with the addition of the ability to purchase more retainers. Personally I plan on buying two right off the bat. I was a mule junkie in XI and I see myself relapsing soon.

From the 10/15/10 Message from the Director, no? I read it as:

Message from the Director 10/15 wrote:

Allow me to begin by stating that the development team plans to release a version update at a rate of once every three months, of which the large-scale version update currently planned for December will be the first. Nothing is more important to us than seeing to the prompt implementation of the various changes and features players desire to improve playing conditions. In that vein, there are several adjustments and additions which we will be introducing before December's version update.

Further changes we have planned for the near future, which will be coming sometime after the first version update, include the following:

  • Search feature to allow item searches by individual wards
  • Icon display to identify retainers selling sought-after items
  • Increase in the number of retainers that may be employed

  • I'm reading it as they have a version updated planned for December, which will be the first large scale version update...and after that they plan on implementing the addition features. It goes on after that last sentence to describe the Market Search and Multi-Retainer features.

Adjustments will be made to the transparency of the log window when unfocused

Old news, but honestly if this wasn't coming I would stop playing now. This game is killing my eyes. I'd perfer something more opaque than even how it is now, when the chat window is "focused," but maybe I could live with it...

There is also the free re-activation of accounts that cancelled before the initial 30 day trial. It's only for 3 days though...
