Sparking Orbs?Follow

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and assume that when my orb starts sparking--it's bad. What exactly does it mean though? What causes it? Does it have anything to do with the stability of the orb? What would be the best course of action to take? I've looked through the links in the sticky and browsed some of the DoH forums, but have found nothing on sparks. The only obvious thing I notice is that a high rate of fail ensues.

It's driving me nuts that this is the only part of the synthing process I don't understand lol. Thanks for your time :)

I have heard that usually sparks mean a chance of creating a HQ item but this seemed random. I do know that it does mean stability is declining however, if you could manage a few rapids to finish synth, you may make a HQ item.

Also it could mean that what you are synthing is doable but a tad bit on the high side for your lvl. I only seem to get sparks when trying to make something either for the first time that is a bit high, or when I have multiple fails on rapid synth.

This probably doesnt help you at all lol but thought I would give it a shot.

From what I have read sparks are included to indicate that the stability is declining, however does not effect actual synthesis results. More than anything I think it is added for dramatic effect to let you know your chances for success are slim.

In my experience, when the sparks start to show, durability damage increases. So whereas before a success might have yielded you 20 progress, 5 durability hit, 5 quality, it will now yield 18, 8, 5.... Then 15, 10, 5. You'll also notice it in your touchups. No sparks is usually 3-10, light sparks 8-15, heavy sparks 13-30 (durability lost per touch-up).

I believe that it's showing that you're overworking the piece. Choose wait for a while (if you can spare the durability) until the sparks die down. The increased durability loss sounds likely.

One thing I've noticed is that I very rarely see sparks now that I don't do a lot of rapid. (Usually I'm either worried about completion - in which case it's a tough recipe relative to my level and I'm not likely to succeed on a rapid - or I'm working on something I can do easily, and I want quality for HQs.)

When I started crafting, I would see sparks regularly after a few failed synth attempts.

Maybe it has to do with gear? When I started crafting, I didn't have a lot of crafting stats on my gear, whereas now I do.

At any rate, I never, ever get sparks as a result of successful synthing, even if I'm bolding like mad. I tend to get more elemental instability than sparks when I'm doing poorly. Maybe sparks are a consequence of rapid and elemental instability is a consequence of bold?

I get spars frequently when I try to craft a recipe above my rank since I fail a lot -__- Also, when using bold synth numerous times, more ofthen than not, sparks will start showing after first failed bold synth (3-4 or more successful and then 1 failed). When doing rapid synth they tend to show more often as well, especially if trying rapid on a red coloured orb and failing (almost without exception sparks will show). And then there's touch-up. 3 or more failed touch-up usually will spawn sparks for me.
