I just have to wonder at this. These people making arguments like all MMO's are bad at launch, and they need time to develop just seem to be distracting people from the glaringly obvious, that FFXIV is crap. And the argument that only the "hard-core" can appreciate a game like this, nothing but a thinly disguised attempt to flatter people who don't know better. And all these people saying Square Enix has given us many great games, so we should believe in them? Square Enix is a company made of people, and sadly it would seem that the people who made the good/great games are all gone. We're left with a company that invested heavily in a failed game engine, a company that's determined to recoup as much of its investment as it can, a company that cares about your money, but not you. This is one of the worst launches of a video game ever. Don't you think SE knew what it was giving us? They're relying on the fact that a fool and his money are soon parted and that you can fool some of the people all of the time. And I suspect, on people in the forums that they're paying to make specious arguments. Just look at the game. How can you believe in a company that sold you this? Stop kissing the pig. It's not a princess and never will be one. Don't give Square Enix any more money. They were great once, but they've lost their integrity and their way.

I hear SE sacrificed baby Lalafell during the production of FFXIV too! Now you tell me they produced a game to make money?! How dare they! You're right, I'm quitting right now, you've opened my eyes. Thank you Chaiwallah.

Maybe its crap, maybe ppl like it? Maybe it will get better, maybe it will fall to the waste side? Maybe these stupid threads will stop? When does it end? Do we really have nothing better to do then complain? If you don't like it then don PAY to play. They are not forcing you to buy it, they don't make you sit at you PC/Game console for hours. I paid just like those ppl that hate it. I am not going to pretend it doesn't need some more work. I am however going to keep at it and give it some time. You have a choice. Make it and move on.

This is the kind of crap that makes the game suck for me. People that just complain about something someone else made. You can do better? Then do it.

OP is a bit blunt but I'll have to agree. IMO, most of the games supporters right now are relying on FFXIV's 'rebirth' (if you will) once PS3 launch comes around to 'really' kick things off. Atleast if there's one thing we can all agree on: FFXIV on it's current path will continue to bleed subscribers to the point where only 2-3 servers are left and the most hardcore survive (without the possibility of a 'relaunch').

My reasoning for this is simple: Players enter into an MMO in largely three ways: Hardcore early adopters (all of us), followed by the fence sitters (people waiting on reviews) and followed finally by everyone else (dictated largely by recommendations from friends/family, word-of-mouth, etc).

Thus due to the horrible reviews, and my opinion that a good majority wouldn't recommend this game to their worst enemy and the terrible word-of-mouth going around the gaming comunity; FFXIV has already peaked and will continue losing more subscribers than it gains.

That leaves the looming PS3 launch to turn a new slate, and introduce players to what FFXIV was really meant to be. There will be re-reviews and a good chance that if SE works their @sses off, they'll be able to attract many of the non-hardcore crowd.

Unfortunately, as it stands, I don't think they'll be able to pull it off. They have six months, of which most of their time is already dedicated to fixing dated game mechanics, bugs and other things that should not have been in the game in the first place; atleast till December. Then they have a couple months to actually introduce 'content' into the game (there really isn't any right now) to keep older players interested.

I just don't think they can pull it off. It's too late. They botched the launch and unless they're ready to delay PS3 launch by another six months or so (late next year) they will not be able to launch to much favorable review scores or regain the publics attention to do away the damage the PC launch has caused.

Sorry for the rant.

EDIT: Just to clarify I don't support the "SE spies" conspiracy. IMO if SE had the man-power to troll english forums, they'd be better off just communicating with us on a more official level here. I know many of us would be much more forgiving if they just communicated more often.

Despite its many flaws, which I have acknowledged many times, I still find Final Fantasy XIV fun to play. I am not alone. I don't know how I can explain it more plainly than that. I haven't had a game I wanted to play every day since XI like 4 years ago.

And, since at least someone seems interested in my objectivity, I haven't played WOW in over a year and have no intention to go back. FFXI was my first MMO, and I played it and enjoyed it for three years. (Hi, Bunbunmaru, if you're out there.) I followed that up with WOW for almost five, played Aion for awhile, and now I'm playing LOTRO. I've had a good time with each of these games. They're good, honest MMOs. FFXIV isn't. Sorry.

Great, and we respect your opinion. Now respect ours when we say we enjoy FFXIV. What exactly is the purpose in starting a flame war? No one game will ever please everyone. I no longer like LoTRO but I don't flame up the Turbine forums. I thought Champions Online was terrible but I don't post over there either.

SE recognizes FFXIV faults and is working towards them. If you honestly still have interest in FFXIV check out the Lodestone for information regarding the upcoming updates. If there's nothing SE can do to bring you back, then please respectfully leave. Don't fill the forums with useless posts.

@Pikko
Interesting, Pikko, but you are one among not-as-many as would be needed to consider FFXIV a real success. I also enjoy the game to some degree (or manage to convince me I do...) but the reviews and numbers of people (rightfully) complaining are not something one can simply overlook or label as "their problem, not mine". SE miscalculated. Bigtime. They thought "well, we have some cool new ideas and the franchise name, so no need to listen to our player base". And now they pay the price.

You (I think you are of Japanese origin also) should be aware that there is little to no reviews available on FFXIV in Japanese sources like Famitsu. Aside from the dirty fact that SE evidently "bribed" their asses out of **** in some way, this alone is more than enough proof that they completely, absolutely, 100% did not deliver what was expected from them. Neither here nor in the US nor in Europe.

Just think of it. A Final Fantasy Numbered title NOT COVERED IN FAMITSU for more than a month?!

Sounds fishy, doesn't it?
The times where you could wiggle your *** out of bad reviews by using long-established connections are over, though, even here in Japan. Just read what people write in 2ch or the Japanese Amazon reviews. Despite what people say, those are not "made up", but sometimes pretty well written rants by seriously dissatisfied customers who feel, in a way, deceived.

Normally, you have about an equal number of posters who defend a game and of those who bash it for whatever reason; if people really like what they play, they become attached to it and defend it. Not this time. Evidently, a larger-than-usual percentage of players did not receive what they had hoped for and expected. It's ok of you like the game. ****, there are people who love the away team missions in Star Trek Online. But even a hundred Pikkos will not be enough to keep updates and improvements coming.

So even if you like it, those people who don't are, in a way, your problem.

No where in your rambling incoherent response did you come close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. We are all dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points and may God have mercy on your soul.

Really tho, You're saying all this crap.... where is your proof? Your point? Your arguments? This is the ramblings of a guy who is new to gaming and doesn't understand how things work. I could break this down line by line and molest it up but meh, so much effort for so little being said. That being said, I'm having a good time. Everyone I know in game is having a good time. I'm content with that.

If SE paid me I would have a truckload of reasonable suggestions and starter code on how to implement it. Too bad that isn't the case. We'll just have to go along with the pages of fixes and upgrades they have planned eh? I guess they were supposed to break the mold come out with a bunch of new ways to do things and just get it perfect without much testing and strain tho, right? Clearly you haven't been involved in anything that takes more coordination than a couple of retards fighting over a package of balloons but you can kinda see how it works from that right? No? Oh well.

I normally don't comment towards these type of posts.

I would just like to say that your total butchery of common sayings gave me a laugh. All wrapped up in a tinfoil hat conspiracy post even.

It's times like these when I wish I could see the person behind the post, or live in their mind for a few minutes. Figure out at what point this idea came to mind, and then what point it actually sounded like a valid subject.

P.S. It's a frog, not a pig, and a prince, not a princess. But you knew that, and twisted it, yes, of course.

SE's problem, not ours. If the game is still going a year from now, we were right. If not, you were right. The bigger question is, why are you (I use the term "you" to denote anyone who actively hates the game) still here and making threads like this? Threads that do nothing to explore fixes to current issues and exist merely to complain?

As evidenced by SE's responses, constructive criticism is helping, but threads like these do not.

Rinsui, my problem with the OP is that he doesn't simply not like the game. He seems to think it's his personal mission to get people to quit the game to teach Square Enix a lesson. That the "future of the video gaming industry" is in our hands. That Square Enix is PAYING people to like it. LOLOL! Where's my money, SE?

I get it that people hate the game, but I don't see why I should have to tolerate people trying to tell me that I should hate it too.

But they have shown evidence that they care. Besides that, you are in the minority here. While they're are a number of players that feel the same way as you, the majority find ffxiv fun to play! I think where a lot of contrary issues come from is the solo play. How can you truly enjoy an MMO when you play by youself?! SE has even stated that they want to cater to casual players more but the truth is being a multiplayer game means playing with your friends and like-minded individuals. When I am going solo doing guildleves, it's easy for me to find the faults in the game. But when I'm with friends and linkshell mates, I get excited and can't wait for the next session.

I may be presumptuous in stating that you don't belong to a strong linkshell, but maybe all you really need is a group of like-minded individuals to show how much fun this game really is! Don't be afraid to talk to people. Don't get caught up in the numbers like many WoW players do (not saying you're a wow player or that all wow players do this). Just have a fun social experience playing a game with others after the same goals. You'll see it turns into a much different game.

In addition, SE has stated they are listening to the community and are attempting to "fix" the issues many players have with it. If you don't like what they have to offer, there are many other games out there that will fit your play style better, but that doesn't mean that just because you don't like FFXIV that no one does. I appreciate your concerns about the game as they are clearly evident, but try to see it from multiple points of view before making assumptions about the entire community.

Also, I'm third generation Japanese American, so my ethnicity has nothing to do with how I understand the issues. If someone handed me a copy of Famitsu I'd be like, uh, thanks. Nice photos.

I'd attribute their silence more to a combination of Japanese culture and their long-standing relationship with Square Enix. They asked people not to review the game right now and I would lean more towards the idea that Famitsu just respects SE's request due to their existing relationship.

I don't find it hard to believe that there's people that like the game. It's just a difference in taste. you know,

Some people like Led Zepplin, while others like Justin Beiber.

Some poeple like Martin Scorsese films, others like Uwe Boll films.

Some people are into the Giselle Bundchen type, while I'm sure other people find Oprah attractive.

So it stands to reason, that while most people might like good, well designed video games, theres gotta be a bunch of folks that like FFXIV.

Well, he might not be completely wrong, especially about
Quote:
That Square Enix is PAYING people to like it.

or rather, about SE paying someone to not hate it.
How else do you explain the Famitsu silence? ^.^/

Of course, he is a bit irrational (rage-quitter), but I fear he voices what many
others of those who already left thought. Player numbers are shrinking already.
Shouldn't a healthy game add servers so shortly after launch (people inviting
their friends, buddy passes, extra free playtime)? ****, if you use a buddy
pass now, you are literally able to play for nuts and nuthin' for a full month,
and still!

A free-to-try free-to-play next generation MMORPG made by godly Square Enix...
and player numbers are "consolidating" already?

All MMORPGs are full of bugs at launch. In this age, even offline-games are full
of bugs at launch. But recommending the game at it's current state must, for a
"normal, average" player really sound like "kissing the pig". (I am not familiar
with this expression, but I guess I understand what it means. Wasn't it a frog,
though, in the fairytale?).

Everybody prioritizes features differently in games. Graphics may mean more to one person than UI, and vice versa. So no it doesn't surprise me that there are alot of people who really like the game as it is. I think its probably a bit like a bell curve as to those who hate it, those who thing its perfect, and a wide range of opinions in the middle.

Personally the game weighs more on the poor side for me, things I value highly (leveling curve, solo ability) I feel are very poor. I probably would have dumped the game into the trash had I not felt so lied to. For the time being I'm going to continue providing feedback in hopes that SE actually turns this into the casual game they promised, or at least try and make the definition of casual-friendly clear to SE so they hopefully won't make this mistake again.

I don't get how this game is not casual/solo friendly? I get to play maybe 1-2 hours a day, sometimes less and I'm still a Rank 16 Archer with like 4 other classes in the teens. I've only grouped with people once the entire month since launch.

If anything, I'd say it's the opposite, where this game isn't exactly the most party-friendly game out there.

It's actually not a grind-friendly game. Like you said, the most accomplishment comes from 1-2 hours per day based on the leve system. But if you want to try to grind for 5+ hours or if you play on a daily basis I'm sure you'd think this game sucks. Like you I play for 2-3 hours at a time, roughly 4 days a week and I'm enjoying and still have goals to achieve. And I have yet to even join a linkshell!

It has the slowest progression and most time sinks of any game I've seen come out in the last few years. It is great for the player who wants to play 2 hours a day, but its rather poor for the player who wants to play 5-6 hours one day a week.

I think if you look at it and say "I'm playing casually, I put in X time and get Y done, and I'm happy with that" its great. However I know what alot of the MMO competition is like right now, and comparatively XIV has more time sinks and steeper level requirements. You're about where I am in the game, when solo-duoing is fairly viable, but from everything i've heard, that goes out the window in the next 6 levels, and its difficult to get a significant portion of a level done in an afternoon of soloing.

Are you all connected by phone or what? And Pikko, there seems to be something of a contradiction in these two quoted posts. You want to play every day but you only play 1-2 hours a day and sometimes less? Doesn't seem to indicate too much enjoyment. And don't say you don't have time. You're always on posting defenses of this game you hardly play. And about the pig, most of us know the saying "you can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig". I was just extending it a bit. For fun. Can any of you remember what that is?

I've never before seen so many people willing to post about a game they dislike. If I spent time each day complaining in forums about mmo's that I thought were craptastic, I'd never have time to play mmo's.

I too must be an excuse making fanboi plant.

cause too meny ppl are under the asumption that a mmo must be perfect the day it launches. whare in truth they change from month to month or even weekly. thats why theres patchs, updates and hot-fixs. when XI launched it was alot worse then XIV so i will say SE learned some.

as the the OP why dont you just live in a small apartment and only buy what the TV says to buy since you like to force your oppionion on others.

EDIT: post 100!!!

ok seriously ive never been afraid to say anything bad or good abt se or any ff series but i do believe us uber fanboi's and gulls are forcing ourselves to like this

personally i know i am. for instance i only do leves and then i find another game to play / thing to do so i wont burn out im forcing myself to stay.. i never had this prob on ffxi .. there id get tired and leave but be back in a week or less cause i was truely addicted to a good game. ffxiv is the opposite

and weve seen many many MANY i quit and QQ threads so whoever it was that said "MOST" of us love ffxiv.. your only speaking for fanboi's not for "Most" of us or even half of us cause tbh

"Most" of us came QQ'd posted i quit's and are gone and no longer activly posting.. we went from hundreds of threads and thousands of posters to ten or less new threads with just mainly the usual posters

so yeah "Most" of us are gone

just be more like me.. i acknowledge the games pretty sucky and full of flaws... i stay around cause im a fanboi and ive been a squaresoft fanboi since ff2 on nes.. yes ff2 not ff1.. i did play ff1 but the original game that got me hooked was ff2 on nes back when i was like...8 or 9 iunno it waS elementary and i read at a high school level and thanks to FF series i didnt turn into a Dungeons and Dragons or Warhammer basement dweller like alot of my old friends did/ still are

Despite its many flaws, which I have acknowledged many times, I still find Final Fantasy XIV fun to play. I am not alone. I don't know how I can explain it more plainly than that. I haven't had a game I wanted to play every day since XI like 4 years ago.

1-2 hours of play a day is a HUGE time investment if you're like Pikko and I, where we both have full time jobs in addition to working here, multiple children, families, projects, etc. I'd say I can't work in more time than that, otherwise I would. And even playing that "small" amount of time, I've managed to make great progress on several classes and more importantly, every time I log in it's a fun and enjoyable experience. Why else would I spend so much time working on my gadget and app for the game?

I can play maybe a couple hours a day, sometimes not at all for a couple days, maybe 4 or more hours on a weekend day. I don't have a ton of time. I teach 9 hours a week, and I have to do all the grading for it. Then I have my own classes I'm taking, so that's probably 6 hours a day in class plus homework, projects, and studying for exams. And on top of all that I have thesis research, and that's pretty much always on. Plus I volunteer with the greyhound adoption group here. So no, I don't have a lot of time. I still enjoy the game when I'm able to get on. It's a lot of fun for me. You really don't need a lot of time to get something accomplished nor do you need to commit a lot of time to enjoy it.

Obviously, those of us who are enjoying the game (in spite of it's annoying flaws) are clearly retarded, and just not seeing reason or the bigger picture. Smiley: oyvey

What I'm saying is that companies should not be rewarded when they don't produce a quality product and show no evidence that they even care. Simply that. The future of video gaming is in our hands. Don't you want good games that are fun to play?

We don't dictate this, the competition does and there's plenty of that...don't worry, we'll be getting plenty of good games but there is no good reason to come on here and make a topic about how everyone should hate the game because you do. I didn't like it, so I put it aside 'til later, but why should no one else like it? the game has some redeeming qualities, I'm just gonna wait for the magic patch and a content patch and i'm back at it...cuz really this is as far as this game is from being really enjoyable.
