Why is it so hard for people to accept that despite it's flaws, some of us still enjoy playing the **** game.

I'll answer this for ya Pikko. . since you asked ;)

I guess it all comes down to looking at the game scratching your head trying to figure out exactly what content there is for people to love in the first place. Grinding differnet classes doesn't count. It's not intensive, there's no real focus to it, it's just an absurd amount of hurdles to accomplish the simplest of tasks. At least in FFXI you had the pretext of a quest line to drive you along. with FFXIV all you have is the promise of basic UI adjustments, coming out JUUUUST after that 2nd free month has expired [or so I've read, and if I've read incorrectly please feel free to (gently) let me know].

Please understand, I'm one of those fans that was DESPERATELY begging for this game to be great. The hour the news broke about release date I pre-ordered 2 copies. I came here, to hang out and simmer in the anticipation of launch. I built a brand new rig with a ridiculously priced GFX card using this game as an excuse.

But let's face it. if FFXIV was a car, it'd be missing the engine, transmission, half the electrical system, maybe some of the interior, the paint, driver's side front door. . . and the left rear tail light. Sure, it's got a Ferrari chassis, but what good is it? All you can do is sit in it and dream of what it could [or could HAVE] been.

So yea, I'm glad some people have found something in this thing worth sticking around for, but from where I'm sitting it's really hard to visualize it. Heck, I can't get past the hurdles necessary to so much as pay for the service [For personal reasons, I will not use 3rd pty payment options]. I thought nothing could be worse than VbV. . and I was WRONG >.>

You'll notice, however, that I'm still here (though not as much as I have been). I may stop by to check on progress every once in awhile, but I'm not going to hold my breath for epic changes anytime soon. Even if SE actually started taking it's fans seriously TODAY [and I'm convinced the Earth would explode if that happened] it'd still be another year before they could implement the kind of increased storyline content one would expect from a FF title [I'm thinking along the lines of similar to FFXI]

I'd attribute their silence more to a combination of Japanese culture and their long-standing relationship with Square Enix. They asked people not to review the game right now and I would lean more towards the idea that Famitsu just respects SE's request due to their existing relationship.

Most of us (in the west at least) prefer the idea that our news outlets remain unbiased and detach themselves from the companies they are reporting on or reviewing products of.

The point of reviews is to help consumers in their purchasing decisions. Delaying said reviews on the request of the producer can be justified if that delay would lead to a more accurate review of the finished product.

There is precedence of this in the past. Many review outlets withheld reviewing Fat Princess (IIRC) when it released due to a game breaking bug in the release code which prevented anyone from connecting to the servers (my memory on the issue is fuzzy, but it essentially prevented people from playing the game) because the developers announced a patch would be released shortly to alleviate the issue.

The same cannot be said at this point for FFXIV. Square asked reviewers to withhold judgement for a month... for what reason? Nothing major has changed during this month. Neither did they clarify when they made that announcement the reason they wanted reviewers to wait on the reviews.

On a personal level: I'm glad Gamespot/IGN/Gametrailers/Etc didn't hold back their reviews any further. None of them 'rushed' the review, I think the earliest (gamespot) came out two weeks after launch; plenty of time to see what FFXIV has to offer (not much).

Make it known then. The west has the largest most bias news station in existence in CNN, you want unbiased, check out BBC and compare and contrast the same stories across both stations. I know this is steering off course a little but since we live in an age of digital media its easy for us to be deceived by advertising (news, products, etc.), its called propaganda (be it political or otherwise) and its utilized by the "evil" minds (such as gaming companies, fast food restaurants, etc.) to get us to think what they want us to think about a game, product, news report, and so on. I'd bet part of Microsoft's 500 million dollar Kinect advertising campaign goes directly to gaming websites, most likely as "sponsorship", saying help us our a little (with a little nudge nudge wink wink). Unfortunately SE doesn't even know what advertising is, so I doubt bribery was even in their dictionary.

...The bigger question is, why are you (I use the term "you" to denote anyone who actively hates the game) still here and making threads like this? Threads that do nothing to explore fixes to current issues and exist merely to complain?

As evidenced by SE's responses, constructive criticism is helping, but threads like these do not.

Meh - He paid 50-80 dollars for a poorly coded/constructed/incomplete mess of a game - he has the right to complain. He was cheated by a **** poor product (ie not up to minimum MMO standards). And since there are no Square forums he's going to ***** wherever people congregate around the game - meaning here - as well he should.

Maybe you should complain to SE about their lack of customer feedback options - wait - where could you do that?!... oh I have an idea...but you might end up looking like a hypocrite...

Anyway in all seriousness his complaint does serve a purpose as much as you'd like to deny it. The hardcore autocrats (probably you fit into this) don't believe in considering the opinions of those that are disgusted/disappointed and therefore leaving the game. His point is that in order for the game to stay viable they will need to consider these players and by parity of reason SE will need to as well.

So it will help you the hardcore gamer to be less autocratic, and more democratic, aligning yourselves with the disaffected majority thus keeping your experience alive and maybe luring others back or at least improving the chances of retaining players via the ps3 wave.

I see a lot of apologists for SE scream about how much the game will change and improve with time. Well it won't if SE and its disciples continue to believe that their reputation is not at stake (not simply the game). And how else to understand this than to see these kinds of negative threads reappear over and over and over again...

The disgust is that great and so is the change needed...

Lets be honest - SE is a reactive (not proactive) company (if that - it's a bit of a stretch) and that is a business model for failure not success.

You (I think you are of Japanese origin also) should be aware that there is little to no reviews available on FFXIV in Japanese sources like Famitsu. Aside from the dirty fact that SE evidently "bribed" their asses out of **** in some way, this alone is more than enough proof that they completely, absolutely, 100% did not deliver what was expected from them. Neither here nor in the US nor in Europe.

Just think of it. A Final Fantasy Numbered title NOT COVERED IN FAMITSU for more than a month?!

Given the fact that SE has quite a relationship with Famitsu it isn't surprising that they would honor SE's request to wait a month. The funny thing is that month will probably turn into two or three. I can see it now...

Famitsu editor: Sure thing SE, we'll wait a month for the review. We understand that you are working to provide the best MMO experience and it takes time.

Tanaka: Yeah, something like that lulz!

Fast forward to today...

Famitsu editor: Hello Tanaka-san, are you ready for us to do the article?

Tanaka: Yes, just putting the finishing touches on this update. As you probably know we've been taking a lot of heat lately. I just emailed you the update notes. This is what the gamers have been waiting for!

Famitsu editor: (Reads email about update) FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUU! (Jumps out window)

I remember being on the Aion forums when it launched in NA. There were a few people that were downing Aion so badly, that you'd think Aion stole their wallet. Those same people were talking up Warhammer like it was the savior of MMO's.

I do believe that reps from any game will come to a forum, just to make you think about it. I don't think SE would do that ever. They don't have to. All the other games have a list of failed MMO's, where SE has no fails.

You can call this game a fail, but you would be wrong. As long as my server is full, it isn't a fail.

Yawn.... seriously, I can barely go a single day without seeing yet another SE bashing post on this forum. Yes, this game has flaws - we know already! Yes this game needs updates to fix them - we know that too! And YES, a thousand times YES, this game is still enjoyable to play for some of us.

I won't repeat again the things I enjoy most about this game, lest this be a repeat of every reply I've made since coming to this forum. Instead I'll just ask you plainly and simply, why are you still here? Not to be rude or anything, but if the only posts people can make are complaint posts about the game which this forum is dedicated to, then really you're in the wrong place.

If you play the game and still find something about it you enjoy, then why not instead focus on the parts SE did get right? If you absolutely abhor the idea of spending another day in Eorzea, then do your sanity (and ours) a favour and play World of Warcraft, or Final Fantasy XI, or whatever other MMO's you truly enjoy playing. There's still plenty of fun to be had for the rest of us without being reminded time and again that there are things that need fixing.

For once it would be nice to log in to ZAM and see nothing but postive comments on the game.

I don't get how this game is not casual/solo friendly? I get to play maybe 1-2 hours a day, sometimes less and I'm still a Rank 16 Archer with like 4 other classes in the teens. I've only grouped with people once the entire month since launch.

If anything, I'd say it's the opposite, where this game isn't exactly the most party-friendly game out there.

I'm amazed at the number of people who posted rebuttals so soon after my initial post. Damage control? Are you all connected by phone or what? And Pikko, there seems to be something of a contradiction in these two quoted posts. You want to play every day but you only play 1-2 hours a day and sometimes less? Doesn't seem to indicate too much enjoyment. And don't say you don't have time. You're always on posting defenses of this game you hardly play. And about the pig, most of us know the saying "you can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig". I was just extending it a bit. For fun. Can any of you remember what that is?

I'm with Pikko. I played FFXI for almost 6 years.
I like what i like, and i don't give a crap what people think about it. I'm happy as balls to be able to put 2 hours in a day, and get some returns.
If you think it takes 14 hours a day to make a good day... go back to FFXI. FF XIV is different.

We the fans invested lots of time following FFXIV's development and spent lots of money obtaining computers capable of running the shiny new MMO. We're committed to the game and trusted SE to churn out a product we would all greatly enjoy. Unfortunately some of our loyal followers aren't enjoying the game causing their emotions to run very high given their investment and desire for a great new FF MMO. This forum is the ideal place for them to get together and vent. An angry mob has formed and it's members gives each other comfort that they're not alone and the more people they can round up to sing their song the better.

Meanwhile there are people who see past FFXIV's flaws and are enjoying themselves very much within the world of Eorzea. A good portion of these players are too busy playing to be spending lots of time on these forums. The few who do come here and make positive comments about the game are overrun by the angry mob which becomes even angrier upon seeing that some people are having fun. "How dare they enjoy FFXIV when I'm not! What's wrong with them?" Not all of the disgruntled people here have this lack of respect for others with a differing outlook of FFXIV but there are enough of them to make those who are enjoying the game feel like they shouldn't be enjoying it.

Until the angry mob settles down this forum will remain chaotic and unwelcoming to those who enjoy the game and are looking for a place to discuss the game's content.

Planting rogue agents on forums isn't all SE does, you scratched the surface. You know what else is really bad, in their R&D department frank foccacio was part of the coverup team behind the coverup of the shooter on the grassy knoll. Also, SE's Visualisation department helped the department of defense do the CG work for the lunar landing(Which as we all know was fake). Even more suspicious is that when 9/11 occured square enix had 1million pesos transfered into their account from a mexican bank by the user Jesus gullibilia. Of course as well SE owns property near Roswell, new mexico..tho its unknown what they use it for, This all points to Square Enix's heavily involvement with the illumaniti as they all had their hands in this.

Yeah..my post makes about as much sense as your does.

I have to agree with Pikko on a lot of things. I got into FFXI late and it was painful and not fun trying to catch up you must do this, must do that COP etc basically it did me in. FFXI imo was less of a casual game one you levelled and before abyssea, exp was bird parties and efficiency. that wasnt fun. in ffxiv , which has a lot of flaws, i can run around solo in my limited time and achieve something. make a piece of gear that helps me or get some money via leves to buy a tool from the wards. if it develops into quests like cop that everyone believes you must do then id probably stop. progression did my head in in eq and ffxi. i want this to be different and so far it is.

Some do genuinly like the game, I don't understand that but I can accept that a small minority do find enjoyment there somehow in the same way some are crazy about tetris or pong and play it over and over and over. Others are sticking it out in hope of the game getting good and being in a good position when that happens, I find that kinda funny but good luck to them with that, they want a position of power they never had in XI I guess. Truth is however the vast majority of people that play this will and DO hate it for the travesty it is.

As for the plant thing, I don't think so really...Square are kinda too dumb for that they don't even have the intelligence to bribe review sites knowing how bad the game stinks. I'm almost positive a few Square PR people have tried posting around a little but not very much and they are usually pretty obvious when they do.

I have to say, and sorry for this lol but I do find it funny all the admins love the game. Nothing to do with the fact they get paid to work on a FFXIV site, I'm sure I would learn to love it too if I had a paycheck coming out of it(or I would at least say i did and defend the pants off it) which was influenced based on the games level of success or failure and the advertising differences between the two. Major conflict of intrest there.

What the ****?

You don't say junk like this because it is disrespectful to the other party, no matter how sugar-coated you make it. This lack of respect is also why people can't understand the fact that yes, there really are people who enjoy playing the game. Then it gets followed up by the good-intentioned but self-centered "Oh, everyone else who likes this must be ignorant, I must (lead by example/educate the masses)" idiocy or some other ridiculous narrow-minded self-justification post to try to rationalize why someone could POSSIBLY think differently.

People really need to accept the fact that other people are not drones and do actually have equally valid opinions, even if it can be difficult to communicate across, but that would take a miracle to actually happen.

I'm sure I'll just get ranked down for this mental diarrhea though.
#69Chaiwallah, Posted: Oct 23 2010 at 7:42 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) If the people responding to this thread are indicative of those left playing the game, I have to say I'm not impressed. Most of you sound like you're stoned. You might think you're simulating incoherent babble, but I really don't think you're capable of anything more. As far as my original post goes, I still consider it a valid question. Rinsui's observation that Famitsu hasn't reviewed the game yet is very significant. A game should be eligible for review as soon as it's offered for sale. And as I mentioned in a post on another thread, it's curious that the first two "professional" reviews on Metacritic, both a ludicrous 84, appeared a little more than a week after the game's release and have so skewed the scores that the game eeks out a 50% rating. If they weren't paid, they were definitely looking for advertising revenue from SE. You think I wear a tin hat? I think you're all naive to think that SE wouldn't use any means available to keep the money trickling in. If you like sayings, and I do because they tend to say things that collective experience has shown to be true, consider this one, "Paranoia is the beginning of intelligence."

Funny to see this topic come up... just yesterday, I was actually talking with a friend about my half-serious suspicion that many of the negative posters are Blizzard plants!

When I used to be a reporter, I covered the approval process of this huge housing development in a small, rural town. A small opposition group with lots of cash hired a big PR firm to get their message out. One of the first things this firm did was round up a huge cross section of people to go to city hall meetings to "opose" the project.

I've read many criticisms of this game that seem outlandish or over the top, even when considering this game's flaws. Just makes me wonder, what if Blizzard has a PR firm?

I agree it's very unlikely Blizzard or SE found plants... but it's really not as uncommon as you'd think for business to go to the mattresses.

If it were happening here, however, my guess would be the nagative crowd would contain the plants. Otherwise we'd have seen many more strategic positive threads and replies.

So, you're just acknowledging that the positive threads have been ineffective, then? It seems like the majority of the positive comments hinge on the belief that SE will deliver in the future. I'm saying that if SE (or a hired PR firm) really did hire plants to populate different forums, then we would be having an entirely different kind of conversation right now. Just by what we've seen on these boards over the past few weeks, Blizzard plants would make much more sense. In the grand scheme of things though, it's unlikely that either company did this.

And in reference to the gimpy soccer player analogy up above... you're fooling yourself if you don't think the folks at Blizzard care whether FFXIV takes off. Of course they want FFXIV to fail! WoW is a huge game, but it's also an old game, and people are not going to play it forever. Finding subscribers who want to play a game that is several years old is also going to become increasingly difficult at an accelerated rate. It's not really a question of whether FFXIV is a "WoW killer." There's no such thing as a WoW killer. Eventually though, even the most polished game in the universe won't draw loads of new subscribers once it reaches a certain age... and I think WoW is approaching that age.

/sigh I stopped looking at ZAM for a bit because of this kind of post every hour on the hour. I come back and there still here.

And if ppl are getting payed to say positive things about the game then I WANT MY MONEY SE.

If you dont like the game move on, come back in a few months see if you like it then and maybe while your moving on find a job, it will be alot more productive than flooding ZAM with Q.Q threads.

Also what the OP said about Pikko not enjoying the game maybe he/she has a job, family, other things to do, not everyone can play 24/7 no matter how much they would want to.

These posts are getting old now guess what we ******* know the game has problems, we dont need it battered into our heads the thing is, people who enjoy the game or have retired and not flooded forums about it must just have more maturity or are a lot less retarded than the people that are crying "/cry this game sucks because it doesnt have what I as an indevidual want /cry /cry /cry /cry /cry"

I have a little saying for the trolls out there who think a game should be engeneered for what they want, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. basicly SE try to get what everyone want in however this isnt possible so they go for what the majority of people want,

example, I hate solo play in MMOs and the party system on XIV isnt that good, do I troll forums about it, no i send SE feedback and hope that enough people feel the same way and have the intelligence to also send SE feedback to fix it. If enough people want it SE will make changes, if not they will change what more people want it could be solo play it could be party play.

If you dont like somthing just send feedback, theres a lovely form on the SE support site and even a feedback forum here designed for SE to read none of them are hard to find, infact i had an amoeba find the feedback form on the support site before now thats how easy it is, just people cant be bothered to look if its not on a home page because of how retarded they are (that or they have less intelegence than an amoeba).

So stop trolling, tell SE what you dont like with the game, take a break, get a job, get laid and maybe in a few months they will have made the game better so you can play an enjoyable game rather than make the community a bad place to be.

PS sorry if my rant is a bit long didnt expect it to be a wall of text lol

I dunno, Pikkolicious, but it makes me unable to sleep at night. I constantly play this game until the wee hours of the morning (ok, midnight-1AM'ish on weekdays, 4:30-5AM on weekends), just to try to get that nasty forum naysayer taste out of my mouth...

These complainers, no, these beacons of negativity are like the ex-GF/BF who has nothing but bad things to say about you but just can't move on and leave you alone. The one that is **** bent on making you miserable because you didn't leave up to their expectations, the one who feel they must constantly remind you of how terrible you are, that they have to raise a stink so big nobody will ever come near you again.

I on the other hand am an SE shrubbery - SE Boxwood specifically.

I also have some friends who aren't SE plants, but are SE furniture. They are a SE sofa, SE La-Z Boy, SE ottoman, and SE Lazy Susan respectively.

If I remember correctly, it was my kindergarten teacher who told me that silly questions demand silly answers.

1-2 hours of play a day is a HUGE time investment if you're like Pikko and I, where we both have full time jobs in addition to working here, multiple children, families, projects, etc. I'd say I can't work in more time than that, otherwise I would. And even playing that "small" amount of time, I've managed to make great progress on several classes and more importantly, every time I log in it's a fun and enjoyable experience. Why else would I spend so much time working on my gadget and app for the game?

I agree. I am on of those many people who have responsibilities, such as family to tend to. To me, this game is a God send compared to what I am used to playing on XI (not saying XI is bad, I just don't have time to dedicate to it.) I am enjoying myself and I refuse to let flamers derail that.

I'll answer this for ya Pikko. . since you asked ;)

I guess it all comes down to looking at the game scratching your head trying to figure out exactly what content there is for people to love in the first place. Grinding differnet classes doesn't count.
<<< Well to me, that is all I did in XI, was grind. Because it was so time intensive, I never got to enjoy the story lines of the different explansions. I just DO not have that sort of time to dedicate. I can't join a LS, set aside time, and wait around for hours and sometimes days on end to get stuff done that is story line related I just can't. My education is more important, my husband is more important, my family is more important *speaking of family who live far away*, and my child is more important. I can only dedicate a few hours a few days a week. So for someone like me, this game is great. I can get on at 8, do leves for battle, field craft and other crafting and wrap it up around 10:30-11, and actually feel accomplished, then I can slowly do the main questing.

[quote] Most of us (in the west at least) prefer the idea that our news outlets remain unbiased and detach themselves from the companies they are reporting on or reviewing products of. [quote] LOL. I know this is off topic, but apparently you don't watch the news much :) *just a friendly nudge and a poke* That's all I have to say about that :)

[quote] eh - He paid 50-80 dollars for a poorly coded/constructed/incomplete mess of a game - he has the right to complain.

Anyway in all seriousness his complaint does serve a purpose[quote]

Yes, this maybe true, but there is adjustments and such that are taking place to try and make right where they messed up. And as for lack of customer service feedback options, you are right, maybe he should complain about that, then maybe we wouldn't have people trolling the forums? And then the complaints would actually be sent to people who could maybe do something about them? As opposed to taking up space on a forum...however, I will say, even if it is a flame, it has been providing me with a few minutes here and there of entertainment :) So thank you OP.

[quote] So, if i only play 1-2 hours a day, i can't be a fan... or whatever?
I'm with Pikko. I played FFXI for almost 6 years.
I like what i like, and i don't give a crap what people think about it. I'm happy as balls to be able to put 2 hours in a day, and get some returns.
If you think it takes 14 hours a day to make a good day... go back to FFXI. FF XIV is different. [quote]

Here here!

[quote] I have to agree with Pikko on a lot of things. [quote]

You and me both, hence why I moved to 14.

Oh and to answer the posters question...I am so a SE plant *rolls eyes* It's all a big conspiracy...yeah...that's it...seriously.... >.>; LOL SE is just looking to take over the world LOL. Yeah that's it XD LOL thank you for making me laugh so hard!

Edit: I suck as quoting apparently LOL Sorry :)

For when the Forum's need more of this.

^ That's cause I turned this on.

Also, 'SE plants' is giving SE waaaaaay too much credit. It's considered a huge step for them to make a public statement about the issues in the game. So how in **** do you think they'd bother with plants.

There are people who enjoy the game, regardless of whatever delusions (oddly reminiscent of the Tea Party, mind you.) You like to entertain.

Also, some people (like me) could give a damned whether or not SE's game is 'successful' as long as it is enjoyable, and continues to be so. Let the company boards decide whether or not it was worth the investment to ***** up the release like this. All it changes for me is to know better than to spend money on the collector's edition and instead wait out till the initial fixes get done.

The real 'punishment' for SE is that it taught many of it's players to wait before they buy. They'll suffer in sales more then than they will now.

Pikko, we really need to talk about your dedication to the game. Why are you wasting time on your children, your home and your career when your archer is only rank 16? Pathetic, Pikko, purely pathetic!!

Maybe if you played as much as Chihuahua, you'd be almost as cool as he is!

Heh, I'll agree with you there. And that's one reason I stopped watching cable news all together (CNN, Fox, etc). But I won't start on that topic, it could easily fill it's own thread; for now I'm happy surfind reddit/etc for my news fix.

Which, ofcourse, brings into question her dedication to her kids. 2 full time jobs AND a R16 archer? Someone call child services.

j/k j/k.

Anyway, I think all the supporters need to stop taking all the negative discussion so personally. This is a forum for "general discussion" of FFXIV. This would include negative and positive criticism.

One thing I want to make clear though: WE ARE NOT TRYING TO CONVINCE YOU TO OUR SIDE. A lot of supporters have raised this concern against those of us who have more negative things to say than positive.

We don't care that you like the game. All we want to do is vent our disappointment in a public forum where others also share our view points.

Love it or hate it: you know you've only got a bit more time until all of us "haters" (i.e. disillusioned fans) move on. So, just put up with it, cause you know you'll miss us when you're servers are ghost towns ;).
