I know these have probably been asked before but I tried googling it and got a whole load of crap. Who exactly performs repairs for an item? is it whoever crafted that item e.g. a goldsmith that repairs a brass dagger. What is being able to execute the repair measured against is it the items optimal rank or the recipe level for the item?
Yes, essentially. A GS repairs jewler, a BS metal weapons, Weaver cloth armor, etc. The item needed to repair it is the indicator of what class does the repairs. For instance, my Weathered Bone Hora need a bone chip to repair, bone is goldsmithing so a GS repairs them. It's convoluted I know, I wish Items just told you. Also there's one npc in each city that will repair your equipment to 75% durability for gil.
So far, repairing for me seems to be very very high success rate, I've not failed yet. I'm sure it will happen with higher level gear though, the same repair npc offers a buff that enhances your ability to repair the same way the various guilds do for crafting. For now though if your wearing low level gear (1-15 and maybe higher) I would say don't worry about it, as I don't think you've have any trouble repairing anything with a class that's 5+.
