I cannot get past the log in server, it tells me that maintenance is currently under way, but from all the server status updates I could find this is not the case. I literally just made the account and set everything up but can't get past this phase.

Anyone have ideas what might be causing this?

Are you sure you are trying to play FFXIV? Im sorry not trying to be funny just that I have never seen that msg evon when the servers where down for maitenance all it would do was give me some error code.

If this is FFXIV umm only thing I can think of is your fire wall mite be stoping you from playing. maby try looking threw windows firewall setings to see if theres anything stoping it. I know some with windows 7 where having to run the game in compatibality mode but im not sure if this was why. You could also try restarting your router some times this helps with problems like this. If nothing else you mite want to reinstall the game.

Again Sorry if that came out the wrong way but I have never seen that befor. When ever the serves are down for any reason it just tells me some code and tells me nothing about why its not working. hope this helps.

haha :) yeah Im sure, and its only on one computer it does this, it is the log in server screen with Maintenance at the top, then 5 different languages telling me its maintenance. I checked all compatibility and firewall settings so I have no idea, doesnt do this when Im on a different comp so it has to be somethin in there, just havent found it. Thanks for the help though, now Im 99.9% sure its my comp and/or user error :)

You stated that you "Downloaded the game". Unless you used a torrent site for an ISO file, that seems unlikely since I believe you still need a disc to install XIV. If you do have a Disc I would suggest re-installing. If you downloaded an ISO from Torrent Site, it may be that the File is corrupt, or missing a necessary file to install properly. If neither of these work, I would Change Compatibility mode and Run as an administrator.
Also, if you Did truly download the game, its possible that you have the Beta Installer?

I apologize, I am "used to" dl'ing games, I did use the disc and installed the game. I also re-installed, twice. I have ran it under every windows version from win 95 up to win 7, and I have ran all of them as an administrator. I have all but given up. I put in a support email to SE but I have no idea how their support team is.
