Please do not think this post is in any way negative or a flame against the game as it is not.

I have read a few threads about party play and that it is the way to gain nice SP. I have been trying for weeks now to get more party play and am finding it very difficult to get even 2 or 3 people interested.

I have taken both Lancer and Marauder to 24 and am soloing a lot in Coerthas. The zone is still barely populated and any groups I see running arouns (usually 2 or 3 people only) I am asking if I can join, only to be told LS only (if I even get a response)

I am appropriately geared and in the right level range. I can understand people wanting to do things only with the LS, but surely by now I would have found a decent SP group.

Any suggestions, as I am sure that Hyppogryf are the mob i should be killing in a party. But short of duoing them when my Conj friend is on, I am having to grind the pug in coerthas for OK SP.

Really want to get in one of these 10K an hour parties so if you need a rank 24 lancer or marauder please give Mister Garibaldi a yell

Also, is there a way to use the party search facility for anything other than leves. I seem to be unable to put a party flag up and seek people with similar status in a defined level range. It appears that only leve party play is searchable or am I doing it wrong?

Find a linkshell that does stuff. Clearly if your LS doesn't party or get together frequently, it isn't the linkshell for you.

Possibly slightly harsh to ditch my LS.

There are actually exceptionally helpful people and do group together and do things. The problem is I have out levelled them. One other player is up for parties when he is on, but the others are mostly sub rank 20.

With the 5 rank level difference for optimum xp I need to party with 20+, sadly most of the linkshell are not at this level. I also do not think a bunch of low rank characters will be of much use against mobs that will be beneficial to me

Most of them in fairness are focusing on crafting and not too bothered power levelling rank, which I can understand.

Unfortunately by making partying optional SE has turned partying into an LS only event. As much as people like to say we hated being forced to party in FFXI it was the partying with random strangers that built the community of that game. I really hope around rank 25-30 that partying becomes required for any reasonable SP gain because I really don't want to play another solo MMO. They really need to fix the party search feature too. Hopefully that will come by the end of the year.

I can't speak for Melmond server, possibly a completely different culture, but on Trabia all you have to do is shout in the level appropriate camp. Give it a try, don't give up if yo don't find anyone after one shout. Maybe do it while crafting so you're not just standing around.

It's not an LS only thing, somebody just has to take the initiative and get the party going. Remember the party's are much more flexible then FFXI. You don't necessarily need a tank although a healer is generally required for good SP.

Good Luck!

Edit: It doesn't really start until level 15+ though.

so far 1 party invite, when a nice person teled a few random ppl for free to Uldah from Gridania. first time i saw the familiar blue party text. as long as there are options for levels for solo and parties then ill be happy.

This, while I disliked lfp'ing for hours as my dark knight. I genuinely enjoyed grouping with people, I met a lot of great folks back in XI doing this and the community it helped foster was the biggest reason I couldn't wait to return to FF for. I'm glad I can solo, but to be honest without a quest system like WoW where we get interesting stories while we play, soloing just doesn't have the same appeal. Grinding on rats for an hour for no other reason then to grind on rats is just ..boring. Making it a social experience at least makes it a little more fun.

Maybe I am missing something, but I've found that the approach to partying in FFXIV is fundamentally the opposite of FFXI. In FFXI, partying relied on individual players putting up flags saying they were looking for a group. In FFXIV, through the recruit feature, parties can put up flags looking for certain jobs to join them for whatever. I've found that the problem isn't that the feature doesn't work, it's that not enough people are using the Recruit feature. I've used it several times on Palamecia and it works very well. You don't have to send tells to the people or anything, just click join and if you are that job and level range, you join automatically. If more people used the recruit option I really think the whole partying aspect would be much smoother and more valid.

Then again maybe I'm missing something.

This. People stuck in their old ways complaining that the system is broken.

Partying is certainly happening on Melmond. However, its only a few people who are using the recruit system everyday, myself among them. How do I know? Because without specifically sending tells to people, I've managed to be grouped up with almost the exact same people for the last 3 days for SP grind. If you're not seeing our recruit flags, though, its because we're up in the 25-30 range now. Have done about 4 ranks this weekend.

You also may not be seeing people in Coerthas because thats not really a 20+ group spot. Wolves and Hippos there can be solo'd at 21, so not very feasible for group grind. Check out Cassiopeia Hollow crabs for low-mid 20s. Mistbeard Cove for mid20s-low30s.

Many thanks for this advice, I am currently in Bloodshore with party recruit going so I will see how I get on.

The LS is going to hunt with me there tonight, but we will be 12-26 so the bonus will not apply, still should be fun hopefully.

What time zone do you play please, as I am UK and currently there are 2 JP parties recuiting both 0/8 and one other with no description rank 1 - ~

I will check / start my own parties using this method more though if people are getting results with it.

I'm Central time, US. Mostly play nights and weekends because of college/work schedule though. And yeah, always a lot of jp using recruit and hardly ever anyone else.
