why I stopped playing (for now)Follow

I know I am going to be mentioning something that's been said thousands of times by now but this is just my personal experience as a semi-casual player and maybe someone has a similar experience.

A little background first so you know where I am coming from. I am fairly casual when it comes to MMOs. I've played everything from original Everquest to Eq2, SWG, CoH, FFXI (less than half a year), Aion, WoW (also less than half a year, subscribed but not playing right now), etc and now FFXIV. But when I play, I play for a few hours a day, and rarely get even close to end game. I take my time to level up and enjoy the game, and if I get bored I move on. The longest I played an MMO was probably SWG for about 2 years after it started. I like to solo, but don't mind playing groups. I liked FFXI but ultimately I couldn't take the inability to solo.

So when I heard of FFXIV I was very excited. I played the open beta (my computer was too slow), but I persevered and bought CE version and my computer could handle it just fine at the early start.

I like the game. It's solo friendly (at least in the early levels) and I can do things at my own pace. I like the combat dynamics. I like crafting. I like the graphics. I don't mind running around. I like the ability to be leisurely. But then some of the problems hit... The need to craft and be high level to make anything decent, the questless grind, but ultimately the lack of AH or any kind of search function. The thing is, it's just the lack of the AH where I couldn't craft/or buy the simplest low level stuff for my character for weeks on end that caused me to just give up. That is all... In almost all the other MMOs I could at least have that thought that when I advance in levels I can get some better armor/weapon to slightly improve myself. But I hit a wall here...

All the other problems I could overlook because I enjoy the game so much. But it took me a week just to find a spear. And I don't find enjoyment in medieval retainer searches that take hours with no results, no matter how many advantages that might have (probably none) over a regular economic tool such as AH.

I am 34 years old. I enjoyed this game. I could overlook all the other problems and keep playing. But the lack of the most basic functionality that forms the basis of almost any modern MMO's economy is just a killer. And I am sure it stopped a lot of other people from waiting for the game to improve.

I just stopped playing... Now I just wait. If SE introduces a retainer search I will come back, but if it's not there by the end of the 2nd month, I am not subscribing to keep waiting. If SE is smart, they would know that the lack of AH or similar tools has cost them a huge number of people who otherwise might've stuck around for the fixes, and they would focus on getting that in ASAP. Better to admit mistakes and cut your losses than to stick to your guns and lose everything.

I am not leaving... I said I stopped playing for now because of a simple thing that prevented my enjoyment of this game. The simple thing that is a huge thing for a vast majority of players.

Just want SE to hurry up, and I fear it would be too late for a lot of other players and the ultimate success of the game.

I know it is a work around and an official fix would be nice but at the least you could us those methods to help ease the pain of searching Wards.

The search function will be coming in late nov, and hope it'll work as expected. Until then, maybe you can play something else to kill some time.

As for gears upgrade, if you're doing battlecraft leves, you should be getting some upgrade from quest reward. You can start soloing rank 20 quests at rank 13 (tho you need a rank 10 or so above weapon). I usually make my own weapon, I know that to make a rank 10 weapon, it requires a rank 18 or 20 crafting class to make a part of it. But then the truth is you can still make the high rank parts at lower ranks, it's just that the successful rate may not be as high.

Anyways hope you enjoy your time off~

Not bad tools in the absence of the real thing... But it's still a search for an individual item. And I have to search for these people? Not bad, thanks. I might step back in for that :)

Was it necessary to make yet another thread like this? We do have a thread for complaints.

It should give you the city and ward they are in. I'm not sure if the macro to target someone is fixed, but if it is then you can just make a quick macro to target the player.

You can browse based on item or browse based on items listed in bazaars:

This is not good advice, if you are on Fabul at least, and is a fail.

And just how is it "expected" to work? How I expect it to work is ... just like an Auction House. If you tell me it would be I can search the wards, then try and find the retainer selling the item... forget it. That is BS. Right now the market wards, imo, are a TOTAL FAIL, it is why I will quit this game, (and I am a long-time FF fan) if it doesn't behave in the method of an AH.

So how are you expecting this revised, searchable, market ward system to behave? Why the **** doesn't SE step up to the plate and answer that question, and I MEAN IN DETAIL????

Not being on Fabul I can't answer, so why is this not good advice?

either way I can't see much being implemented besides what these third party sites have done, which is basically give you player location and name so you can go travel there and purchase it yourself.

Do you really expect this of SE? I've rarely seen them give detailed answers on anything.
