It just hit me what's missing in FFXIV.
I've been playing since open beta and CE realease. We have leves and story missions and guild missions.
But what's missing, compared to FFXI, is the community spirit. In FFXI we needed others to help us to get past the rank missions and other quests.
In FFXIV, with the focus on "casual" or "solo" play, we've lost the community interaction that made FFXi great.
The story missions are so far (I'm rank 22) soloable, and so far there no quests/missions I need help with.
Remember in FFXI , the mission to fight the Dragon. That required help. And other quests and missions that could not be done solo.
Gaining a higher level meant that I could could help others achieve their goals.
But at the moment, in FFXIV, however I grow, I cannot help others.
I miss that, if FFXIV missions and quests are going to be soloable all the way, a big chunk of what a loved about FFXI and what I expected from FFXIV has been lost.
How many friends did you make in FFXI while doing these quests and missions? That could even evolve into static parties for the harder missions, like CoP? And from that, joining great Linkshells.
I fear the new emphasis on casual play will ruin this.
