Finally managed to have 2 amazingly sucessful Eft parties yesterday.

Firstly I would like to say a huge thank you to Shigemo for producing the following communication guide:

http://shigemo.com/FFXI/nihongo_guide.html

I have never tried communicating directly with JP members outside of the auto translate facility. UK and EU players especially have to get known to this community as it is them who mainly play during our prime time.

The result was amazing. Initially using the auto translator to search, I was told the party was for 30+ rank.

As soon as I said Party wo ********* imasu, instant party invite and much conversation. They were generally interested in how I was talking to them. It was really good, I would say something in romaji, they would reply in english, or would talk slowly teaching me new words.

A few hours after that party had disbanded and when any sensible person from the UK would be thinking of sleeping, an NA party started to form. This was the larger and more sucessful party and virtually every mob was giving 500 sp. I stayed as long as I could, but sadly had to leave just as things were getting good ;;

i went from rank 24 to 26 in a matter of hours in these 2 parties.

I really hope this is the start of things to come as I enjoyed yesterday so **** much. Yes there were lots of deaths but the sp gain seriously more than made up for it

Since the chat log can now be copied, translating using online services has never been easier*.

:) Sounds you had an exciting time. I'll definitely bookmark the communication guide. Might need it, seeing I never seem to find any EU parties and can never stay up all night to play when the NA players are most active. Gz on your ranks!

I'm glad to hear it can be copied in 14. However, Japanese is one of the tougher languages to have a computer translate for you.

I've been machine translating text from JP parties and it has been fairly successful; atleast you are now in the loop rather than in, say, FFXI where someone had to go to the trouble of explaining to you what is happening. I'd be cautious about pasting in English to Japanese translations though, anything outside of basic questions and statements are likely to be lost in translation.

Would it be too much to assume that when using English Win7 + NA client, the JP IME would function properly without crashing the game? (I wouldn't dare try this in FFXI)
