I have been playing final fantasy xiv since it came out and guess what they were always going to have issues, like all other mmo at release.I am sure that they will get fixed at some point i dont belv it will be by Dec but somewhere down the line.
My main issue and I want to know if i am alone in this, is that unlike previous Se games it seems this game is way over the top in crafting and to me they seem to be the only ones enjoying the game. I have linkshell friends who are leveling up there crafting more then the main jobs. I understand crafting is important and fun to people but did we really buy a game where more people are intrested in hitting level 50 doh then dow. There well never be a realistic comminuty if we are all worried that are gardens wont grow or if i can cut down this tree. Okay maybe thats over the top but i would love to see more group grinding or quest that involve you to group and meet people so we can develop a real sense of comminuty on our particular servers that was the true success behind ffll.To me right now it feels like Farmville that fights back.(i dont mean to knock all the people that love crafting but there are a lot of us that like to craft but bought the game to fight and have fun grinding, doing quest etc.....but crafting is so tied in to the story line my concern especially these un realistic repair cost. If i wanted farmville i would of down loaded it for my iphone.

am i the only one that feels this way i just wanted to know if maybe im looking at the game wrong or just going loco!
i waited months for this game not to create a brass dagger and then go mine.

what do you guys think out there ps sorry about the grammar and spelling errors

I am one of those people leveling crafts in stead of DoW/M jobs.

DoH:
Alchemy 30
Cooking 12
Woodworking 11
Smithing 10
Clothcraft 10
DoL:
Botany 15
Mining 9
Fishing 8
DoW:
Hand-to-Hand 15
Sword 4
Axe 4
DoM:
-n/a-

I am excitied that I can play a crafting job as a main job. Going out and killing stuff is fun too, but being able to exlusively focus on my craft with no downside to storyline, etc...(so far) is great. ^^

I do agree that the repair NPC cost needs to be lowered, increased to 100% and that Gear Damage should start at 25% instead of 50% and HGD at 10% instead of 25%.

I agree that this game focuses too much on crafting for my tastes. But everyone has their own opinion, some people like it, some don't. I really don't think I would mind that much if they made it easier to get by without doing any crafting.

Instead of group fighting being thrust down your throat in FFXI, crafting is shoved up your **** in FFXIV.

Maybe they do it cause they prefer that to grinding levels in battle classes? Just like you prefer that to crafting.
Crafting as well requires interaction with other people - for example, some low rank recipes require rank 20+ mats, meaning a new crafter will have to work with his higher ranked Linkshell mate if he wants to craft that recipe.
Excessive grinding, in whichever form is not attractive to me, so I pretty much do both moderately. Bit of crafting with fighting in between and running around with people doing silly stuff while chatting.

I'm doing a bit of everthing. But one question I do have is how does it work with story missions if you are a DoH main?

The times where you have to fight a bit. The early escort mission and the lvl 15 mission has some fighting. How does a DoH fair in these?

When I'm DoH the only attack I have is to throw a rock and its always for 1 damage.

Rank 15 Girdanian sotryline quest doesn't actually require you to fight - you just talk to a NPC then to other NPCs who are fighting to give them buffs (which you got from the 1st NPC), and the start of Girdanian storyline begins with a battle, but you have 2 NPCs there fighting for/with you as well. Not sure how it develops much later but on Rank 20 you get a companion NPC so perhaps that's the 'solution' SE had in mind?

I agree completely, this game focuses far too much on crafting. Look at the number of crafting classes versus combat classes and you will see where SE's priorities are.

It's nice to have crafting as a distraction from griding, but the main of focus of an MMO is always combat and exploring new areas. It's not sitting in a crafting guild staring at the wall hitting the accept button over and over again. Unfortunately in FFXIV everything revolves around crafting and people have no choice but to participate. With the market wards set up the way they are now, it's clear that SE intended this game to be more of a market simulator than a true fantasy MMO. Sitting alone in a room putting together a piece of armor is never going to feel as epic as defeating that dragon to complete a story mission, etc... of which I've seen none of in FFXIV so far by the way. The main story has just been a series of short cutscenes that get unlocked as you go with little to no interaction or challenge. They couldn't make them a challenge because then crafting classes wouldn't be able to complete them.

Yes i think its great that there is such a outlet for all the crafters in the world as well.
i do enjoy it from time to time but why force people who do not like farming to do it.?
If you dont then your character is always gimped

I'm guessing the excessive crafters will get bored with it once they level it to 50 and amass huge quantities of gil :P and I'm sure they'll want to participate in the end game battles or whatever, if only for mats (if they are made bound for example) or some drops that can't be purchased from other players.
Right now I see it as a competition to get the best gear as fast as possible, sell it as high as possible - before there's more competition on the market. By the time PS3 version is released they'll be starting to fight as they'll have anything a new PS3 player might need to offer, for a nice price ;)

Just like people grinding ranks so that they can be the first to get/sell high rank drops or claim NM when they're introduced (in December was it?).
