My Favorite Thing About FFXIV ^^Follow

#1 Oct 29 2010 at 11:04 AM Rating: Decent
My favorite thing about FFXIV is the crafting system.

I like how I have some control over the outcome of my synthesis. In FFXI you just hit Enter after selecting ingredients, and prayed.

Now I can gauge my progress, and determine if I need to use HQ materials to compensate for lack of skill, or wait a Rank or two, or even use Support if necessary.

What's some of your favorite things about FFXIV?

(Please refrain from posting complaints. This is supposed to be a happy thead.) :D

You clearly don't have any crafts leveled past 20, or crafting gear, or any idea how the system works.

------------

As for myself I really like being able to change jobs on the fly and mix and match abilities across classes. I also like that I get experience for all of my synths (unless they are too low level) even if I fail. No more waiting and praying for .1 - I also like the gathering classes. I am at the point where I can multi-task quite a bit and that is great. There is something pretty awesome about mining for a bit then synthing stuff down (to get rid of HQ items taking up inventory), or smacking jellies then synthing their drops down. Win.

I also love:

-stackable ores
-crystal tab (with stacking to 9999!)
-stackable hides
-the HQ material system (except for the inventory problem)

My favorite thing about FFXIV? Sadly the opening cut-scene with the group picking out their Leve's, and the Main Quest Cut-scenes involving your character with the storyline.

Yes! It is so nice to be able to finish logging when my inv is full and just pull out my Saw and clear some room!

I also love:
-stackable logs
-killing marmots as Rank 30 Alchemist with Firepots (doing 450 dmg each throw) <3
-being able to wear any equipment regardless of rank/class (I may be a horrible but at least I look good!) <3

Partway true, only rank 18 Goldsmith atm, rank 17 Weaver and rest aprt from armorcraft (8) and culinarist(0) at 10 or above, so no, i have no crafts at 20.
I do have crafting gear though (not the best i admit, Craftsmanship 38, Magical Craftsmanship 31 and control 26.
And after having had 8 failures, in a row, at a synth i have been doing pretty consistently for 3 ranks (and 24 times succesfully in a row, just before the string of failures), while using preserve and maker's muse, i don't really feel like i'm in much of control of wether or not my synths succeed or not.
I do admit i don´t really get the system, and from what i've read from the forums and heard in the game, neither does anyone else (and by get the system, i mean cold hard facts, not suspicions and untested hypotheses).

I understand the system fine. Maybe you should read some of the following if you don't.

It was... we all know craftng can be a bit lolRANDOM at times - but anyone that has leveled crafting to any extent (I would say R20+) will know that you can make mistakes - and also mitigate risk and craft well versus not crafting well.

You can just spam standard over and over - yeah... but you can also try recipes above your level if you prepare, use HQ ingredients, and craft carefully.

I shall eagerly wait for the great revelation coming to me in the next rank and a half then :)

That is one of the best features of this game. I like that I at least feel I have control over if I'm going to succeed. Its still basically formulas and RNGs, but at least there are ways to improve chances by changing the formula (+ craft stat gear), and chosing which RNG "die" you want to roll.

I love how every other mmo on the market blows ffxiv out of the water in almost every aspect yet there's still hardcore FFXIV fanboys that preach how amazing FFXIV is.

Fanboys that are still playing FFXIV either never played another mmo besides ffxi, or are just stubborn in defending their investment. Either way FFXIV is a horrible game in comparison to other modern mmo's. Heck even free to play mmo's are better lol.

Queue the fanboys defending it and saying stuff like "You have your opinion, I have mine" while they play an obviously incomplete and broken game.

Even Ultima Online is better than FFXIV lol. Graphics arent important in this genre.

Keep in mind I played and loved FFXI for 5 years. But FFXIV is just BAD lol.

Yet you still feel obligated to stick around the game's forum, and post in one of those "fanboy" threads. ******** it up for what reason? I would think that if you hate this game this much you wouldn't have much reason to stick around. But good on you for jumping all over this guys thread because you hate the game since he and every other poster are such obvious flamboyant fanboys because they posted something positive about it >.>.

**** i'll even give you that fact that its an incomplete game, now way in **** I can deny that. But i'm sure in your eyes i'm just a blind fanboy that nothing I say means anything to you. Keep that hate rolling and make sure you karma bomb me as quick as you can for being such a "naughty fanboy"!

To the OP:
I really enjoy the crafting as well. Its not the typical queue up 20 crafts, leave, make a sandwich come back and hurray their done! I like that the crafting classes are actually treated as "classes". You gear for them, quest for them, **** they even have specific storylines for them. Really enjoy the armory system, mixing and matching abilities leaves a lot of room to fully customize your character. Also the storyline segments have been really good, can't wait for each level that will trigger another.

Changing jobs at the press of a macro ranks up there for me. It was nice to keep just 1 character in FF11 and level any job you wanted on it. The down side was having to hit either your Mog House or a Traveling Moogle to change jobs/gear. The fact I now can change on the run is awesome.

I do like the crafting a bit better than FF11's, getting SP for each synth (even fails) is light-years ahead of praying for the .1 skill-up. Keeps the sanity as I can see I'm making some kind of progress.

My favorite thing about FFXIV is no XP penalty when dying. Its great! I can just throw myself at anything really and it doesn't matter..... or me and my friends can just steamroll through an ultrahard levee with no strategy by dying over and over again.

And bonus, if I die sometimes I get a free teleport back to my homepoint without having to use anima! Super!

Yeah I liked being able to do that at lower levels...but doesnt dying like that really hurt durability? o.o Not sure i could afford to do that regularly... lol.

Free death warp is very nice though.

I've played

Earth and Beyond
Star Wars Galaxies
FFXI
LOTRO
D&D online
Eve online
WoW (for about 3 weeks)
Warhammer online
Aion
Several F2P mmo's.

None of them "Blow FFXIV out of the water". Several of them have unique aspects that i would love to see in FF XIV, but isn't a deal breaker by any means.

Your opinion isn't law. We get it, you think it sucks... so it must suck. Well, some of us have a different opinion.
Deal with it already. It sounds like your jealous.

P.S. That "Fanboy" word is getting old. Why not use a term that you didn't get from other trolls. Originality counts for something.
