Odd question I know, but it's been bugging me for while.
I just started the game on the 25th (and have been enjoying playing my Marauder!). Back then it took a good 3 seconds to open up the Gear & Attribute window. I then upgraded my PC on the 28th, which also happened to be patch day, and the delay was cut in half!
So my first question is: is lag in FFXIV inversely proportional to your computer performance or was it the patch that made things better?
My second question has to do with how different activities are affected differently by lag. For instance:
- Use an ability: <1 second lag
- Open up Gear & Attribute, Inventory, etc... windows: 1.5 sec
- Open up the Buy window from the galka in the Mining guild in Ul'dag: 4 sec
- Open up the Buy window from the guildmaster right next to him: 7 sec
Back in my WoW days when I had a 1000ms latency everything took 1000ms longer to do. The only explanation I can come up with is that for a particular action the client and server might send packets of data back and forth more than once.
You guys have any insight on this?
