where can I purchase food? specifically, food for a DD melee class (adds STR and/or accuracy)

At this point no one really knows alot about the effects of food.

This thread Dat Mining - Food Stats and Their Effects has got some information of what foods do. However it seems that all items give the same bonus which may be incorrect. It is possible that the bonus you get is affected by either th level of the food and/or your level in contract to the level of the food.

Either way, the foods that appear to boost DD stats are Meat for +str, meat dishes for +attack, and some seafood dished for accuracy.

good luck trying to find a culinarian... I bet it is the most underleveled discipline in the game.

Friend of mine does Culinary and hes gotten to 20+...

His synths are absurdly expensive and complicated.. I feel bad for him : (

Not to mention that a lot of the food isn't even that good!!!

Actually I've done some tests, food does seem to scale with your level. By how much I couldn't say but the stats I listed in my dat mining appear to be the basics of it. How it probably works is if you eat food under your optimal rank, the stats remain the same (For example, Salt Cod is EVA+5 Ele.Resist+5) and as you progress up in rank past the optimal for that food the bonus likely scales higher to a certain degree. Think of it like the Trump Crown for FFXI, at Lv20 you gain MP+14 HP+14. As your job level scales, the amount of MP and HP the crown grants slowly increases up to a certain amount. Once it reaches that amount (ZAM read the cap as +27 for both HP and MP) you it won't boost your HP or MP values any higher. That's how it's likely for food, the effectiveness of food is based on your rank.

When you're say 10 levels over the optimal rank for that food that's when it caps off on its effectiveness. Eating something closer to your current rank will offer a greater boost than what you had been eating before. SE did this for food in FFXI as well so I wouldn't expect any difference for FFXIV. Just be nice if SE stated how much the boost is for each item so we didn't have to second-guess everything...

EDIT: By the way, the levels and everything above is speculation. In FFXI each type of food item generally had a soft cap that wouldn't go any higher once you reached a certain level.

I'm in the same boat of what to do with CUL. I just reached rank 20 and have yet to make anything besides bait and sea/river sand. Good thing is it's 100% free less the shards and gil I would have made from npc fish. I have noticed some of the reciepe levels for sea/river sand are off though so that might be turning some people away. For example I am currently getting 250+ SP from Ocean Clouds (level 11 reciepe) at 20 while I was getting 175 SP from Black Ghost (level 13). I only bring it up because I have yet to find a gap in what fish I am getting from my normal camps and what level fish reciepe I need for CUL. The only oddball has been the Ocean Cloud you catch at level 1 and I thankfully just saved. I hope this continues because I certainly don't want to make 7 ingredient reciepes at 4k each to level.
