Hello all. In case people don't know yet, there are elementals in this game just like there were in FFXI. The only difference is that in FFXIV they look like faeries and are colored to match their elemental type.

That's not what is important however. What IS important, is that these specific mobs drop six(!) crystals of their type. Not shards, Crystals. So if you're a crafter lacking the crystals you need, then there is no better target out there than these.

Of course, you need to also be high enough rank in a Disciple of War or Magic to defeat them... Or get a group. The ones I found had the Red difficulty icon, but were manageable as a Rank 24 Conjurer. They did burn out almost all of my MP however.

The problem is finding these elusive creatures. I have only found the locations of two, and only one of them is a reliable spawn, it seems. That is why I am relying on the community to help fill in the blanks.

------------------

Elemental Locations

Fire
- You can find a Fire Elemental grouped with a Bomb and Skeleton south of Nophica's Wells in Thanalan at approximately 36,18 in an invisible cave. May share a spawn with them.

- 5,3 Nanawa Mines.

Water
- Within Cassiopeia Hollow, apparently in varying locations water elementals can be found. They only seem to spawn during rainy weather.

Ice

Earth
- Lowlands north of Camp Bald Knoll. Apparently share a spawn with Yarzon Scavenger.

Lightning
- Cassiopeia Hollow, westernmost room. Apparently share a spawn with bombs.

Wind
- Apparently can be found in a node south of Cactus Basin in Thanalan. Exact coordinates unknown.

- 30,33 of La Noscea.

Elementals that spawn from levequests drop crystals as well, but it seems to be extremely rare compared to those found in the wild.

Some elementals also seem to spawn according to the weather (the weather icon is on the top right of your screen next to the moon icon).

------------------

If you have found any, please let me know, and I will update this list as necessary.

I would say all of the caves near 30+ camps in The Black Shroud area like Camp nine Ivies, Crimson bark, extreme North of Emerald moss, Humblehearth, all of the elementals can be found in these area caves. They are all 25+ to kill.

Elementals from Leves/Behests do indeed drop crystals and clusters.

5-3 Nanawa Mines Fire Elemental (Non-Leve) did not drop any shards/crystals when killed, so not 100% rate. Soloable rank 23 Marauder, Level 32.

I remember there being some lightning elementals in Cassiopeia Hollow in the beta, but I'm not sure whether they're still there for the actual game.

Wind is directly west of Ul'dah, I think about the node south of Cactus Basin. There are Peiste and Beast tribe about though >_>

Found some lightning elementals in Cassiopeia Hollow, westernmost room.
Orange/Red to R23.

They appear to share spawns with bombs.

I forget the location but there were some Roselings and a Wind Elemental or two on an island with a bridge leading to it somewhere in La Noscea. I recall it was roughly far to the east of Limsa Lominsa and a little ways south of Camp Blood-something. It's not too hard to miss, just look on the map for a tiny patch of land on the outer edge of the terrain connected by a bridge. They conned orange to red as a 21 Conjurer. I had planned to fight one but got attacked by a Roseling and then the Elemental joined in and attacked me.

EDIT: Found it, a small piece of land connected by a single bridge directly north of a landmass shaped like a cross, look to the east of Limsa Lominsa's entrance and a little to the north.

Thanks for the info, but to be honest, elementals are camped to ****. I always see 30 something sitting around in caves just camping for easy crystal drops. SE really need to implement the system in which mobs don't drop loot when they stop giving experience points.

They need to add crystal fusion recipes. Moraine gemstones can be used to fission crystals, but we need to be able to fuse shards as well.

no, because with HQ it would be a way of making infinite shards...

Really? I have yet to see that happen anywhere on my server. Although admittedly I haven't camped every single elemental spawn location (that I currently know of).

EDIT: Also yay finally a Scholar! Now I can rate up those that helped out. :)

I think the weather dictates the elemental spawn in this location. I've seen single Wind Elementals spawn every so often and I've seen a pair of Water Elementals spawn in the rain. Decent grinding spot (cassiopeia, roselets - wind shards) but the elemental spawn is ~10 minutes between.

Now that you mentioned it, I didn't find Wind Elemental again at Cactus Basin because it was sunny. The first time I were there it was raining and I found 2 of them, so outdoor Elemental spawn based on weather?

That seems to be the general consensus so I will update accordingly~

Btw all still need people to find us those Ice and Earth Elementals!

Earth Elemental are on the lowlands north of Camp Bald Knoll, had one kicking my party's **** when we were doing leves there. Weather was fine, but it seems that you have to kill all the nearby Yarzon Scavenger for it to respawn again.

Awesome, thanks!

Just need Ice Elemental now to complete the list (Of course, more locations of the others is appreciated too)!

Another spot for Earth elemental is also at Bald Knoll, to the South West along with Buzzard, really easy to spot because they happen to be at the site for the r40 leve defend the location types. And annoying too.

If you want to get those Fire Elementals in Nanawa mines try this:

Go to the most western chamber on the map. In this chamber you will most likely find alot of Yarzon's. Kill those Yarzon's they are the placeholders for Fire elementals. After one or some kills the elementals will spawn in the place of the Yarzon.

This way i turned the whole chamber into Fire elementals which i could not kill solo at this point.

Punishing barbs is an easy way to kill elementals if you're too low to kill them normally.
