I just want to know how many people play the oppoiste *** of character to themself if they have a choice?

I play Miqote so I have no choice but to play female unless I roll different race.

But do any of you play opposite genders in other races?

I ask because I like Lalafell, however I think the female toons look a lot better same with the Elezen.

No, you just get confused for it by strangers and a lot of them assume and sometimes even hope you're female.

A lot of my LS though are Miqote...and for the ones that I'm not that familiar with I get them confused on if they're male/female :\

I was thinking of playing a lalafel female until I started thinking about how much I'd get ripped on by my friends waiting for the ps3 to come out. Lalafel male it is lol

I don't, but a few of my friends do. Most of the Mithras in my roleplaying LS in FFXI were men. My best friend played a Hume female, stating that if he's going to look at someone's **** for hours on end, it had better be female, and it had better be nice.

I told him that's why I played my Galka in first person.

male playing lala female, but in my defense, i actually was trying to get my wife hooked onto the game using the cuteness of lala.

she gave a few pointers on character creation, and mentioned a few times that the lala is really cute, but never bothered to play the game...

maybe a good thing though lol

I play miqote because humes look bland, the lalafell animation is broken due to the speed its set to, the galkas are horrible, and the elves are poorly animated.

I'd love to play male miqote.

I usually pick whatever seems most fitting for the class. Warriors something bulky (galka), Healers something that's going to look good in robes (taru, humans) etc. But for both FF games, knowing I was going to be doing multiple things, I go with races that tend to look at least OK in everything (plate and cloth types), so I rolled Hyur lady.

Played a Mithra in XI. I chose the race because my first two jobs to 75 were Thief and Ninja. I ended up with NIN/THF/WAR/SAM/BLM/RDM/BRD all maxed and my race didn't matter anymore. Constantly correcting people on my gender was annoying though. I stick with male characters now. I also choose the most balanced race because I like to play different classes.

The only time I've ever played as a different gender on an MMO is if problems arise, or specific classes are male only (Perfect World, im looking at you!). FFXIV lets you play as any class as any race. While some races are gender-specific, it doesn't impact game play in any great way, it's merely a cosmetic change.

It's a good thing then that Lalafell have both genders available. They're so adorably huggable im surprised Square-Enix hasn't released Lalafell plushie dolls!

I pretty much assume everyone is male. And so figured most of the female characters were actually men. But apparently I'm wrong....

This study shows that there are more female MMO players than male:

nearly 2 months has passed and I can't pick a character I really want to roll, sometimes I look at my Miqote and she looks bad ***! Then I look at my Lalafell and they're just small and awesome!

I keep jumping back and forth... its so annoying!

I normally play as my gender (male) but have created female characters and dabbled with them just because their pixels are nice to look at.

But many of us know the stigma that real female MMORPG players face. There's always those few players who have to pick on female gamers for being female. Whether it's to harass them (i.e.: "ur a girl? lmao pics or it didnt happen"), make unwanted sexual advances (i.e.: "show me your tits") or any number of things.

When I do play my female characters, though, I'll be upfront and honest with people and tell them that I'm male and I'd rather not have to deal with the awkwardness of someone finding out after-the-fact.

Well back in XI I made a character that closely resembled me, in which case was a Hume male with black short hair.

I was going to do the same for this game but then I thought to myself, 'Do I really want to stare at the *** of a Hume male for another x-years?'. The answer was a big **** no, so I created a female Elezen. Now I have something good to look at for the next couple of years.

Two reasons...

I played a mithra in FFXI

If I'm going to be looking at the backside of a character for hours on end it may as well be a miqote.

I don't mind personally what gender a person chooses as their character in-game, as long as they aren't trying to portray themselves as a female out of game to other players. For example, you meet someone in FFXIV and become friends. Eventually you become best buddies. This buddy plays a female character. Nothing wrong with that, right? Now what if this buddy says their real gender outside of the game is female. Again, nothing wrong. Well later you find out that friend has actually been lying, they're really a guy IRL. That's where it's wrong.

Now if you're going into the game looking for a hot girl to know and everything, the person who lies to you about their real gender is wrong, but in a way you deserve this. At least that's my personal view.

Now to answer the subject, I do play two different characters, one which is my primary, a male Hyur Midlander, and a not-as-much-used female Seeker of the Sun Miqo'te. Normally the female character isn't used as much only because I feel more connected to the other. Is it a gender thing? Dunno. I'd really love to make a male Miqo'te but since I want a Miqo'te and only females are available, I'll play as that. Now, if they had both genders available I'd probably still play as a female character sometimes, however both would be Miqo'te. :P

I don't know what you mean by 'better looking' as I find the Roegadyn and Hyur highlanders to be rather pleasing to my eye as well :D
I play a male Hyur midlander though, cause that felt right and in tune with me. I don't mind playing a character of the opposite ***, but I could only do so if it were an alt. My main, if it were of an oposite ***, would start driving me mad after years of playing (presuming I stay in XIV as long as in XI).
