One Character all 3 Storylines...Follow

The trailer for the game shows all three storylines, but we are only able to do one story at a time. And if you want to do all three you have to create a new character... losing everything you built up to. The story would be better told if we could do all 3 lines with the same character.

Yup.

However, I wonder if you'll be able to switch nations later in the game like you could in FFXI.

As it stands now other then your Storyline quest there really is nothing bonding you to any one nation... is there?

Not that I'm aware of other than the fact that you are recognised as being part of that nation, as shown in the character profile. Therefore, I would hazard a guess that switching nations would allow you to complete a different quest line, as in FFXI.

well in all cases the storyline ends up in ul'dha with the quest "fade to white". I think the story line before that is just the prologue and then the real fun starts. unfortunatly at that time ... there is no quest after fade to white but im sure they're to come in the next months.

as for changing nations, i dont know where i read that but im pretty sure they wont allow you to change ever.

so all we got to do for story line in other cities is to create another character but i dont think its worth unless you are very curious. still, if you dont want to go through all the trouble, you can read the synopsis here on zam under database>quests.

What? no quests after Fade to White? Isn't that the Rank 20 quest?

There are many quests after fade to white, as seen in the Ask the Devs. If I'm not mistaken, they even forgot to put in a story quest in the chart.

Next story mission is rank 26 mission which takes place in Uldah as well. after that I think it's rank 30 or 32. It was on lodestone a few weeks ago.

They did say that they don't intend to ever allow you to do the other nation's quests, which to me seems like a cripplingly stupid decision in light of how little content the game offers. It would be slightly reassuring if the quests all converge at the same point early in the game.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

Silly yes, thats why I have a dummy second character which none of us are yet paying for :P

I believe the quests do converge early on, if that level 20 quest is the same for everyone. I've completed the rank 15 in gridania and the story of that nations seems to have come to a close for now.

Unfortunately, that's only slightly reassuring because it would only show that they aren't making absurdly bad decisions about how to allow access to the content. On the other hand, it also shows that there's a lot less story content than we might have expected.

sorry. my bad. if there really is a storyline quest after fade to white than, its not in my bible (ZAM). There are how ever class quests.

But as some have said, SE is not planing on us changing nation. Sh/t happens.

They noted somewhere on lodestone that they didn't implement a means of switching nations. What I don't understand is why, I mean why on earth would you not allow players to switch nations?

Not only were you able to switch nations in XI but in one update they made it so you didn't lose any of the progress you made, like conquest points and outpost warps. This is a step backwards and there isn't any sane reason I can think of for them not to allow someone to switch nations.

it's prob related to fade to white as you join the guild there cause of events in the r15 quest (in limsa at lest)
so then if you then go back and do other nations storys with similair event to take you to fade to white then the story will go all haphazard...

Yea there's plenty of quests after 20. I've done the r26 & r30 so far. As for changing nations...eh, not a big deal to me. So I miss out on a bit of the story(though I saw it in beta). Maybe we'll get to change nations later on...

I can't speak for anyone else but the Final Fantasy games have always been about the story to me, including XI. If I can't enjoy the story than it defeats the purpose for me at least.

Of course the story's very important. I just don't see this as a huge deal like some make it sound. I'm not feeling cheated or forced to make 3 characters because of this issue. I guess some of that's because I checked out all 3 cities in beta like I mentioned.

Their reasoning was that they wanted picking a nation to "mean something". I guess they didnt like people switching nations in FFXI who were always behind in conquest points maybe?

We might be able to view the cutscenes for the other nations at a later time, if there is enough demand. But first SE has to fix the bugs, improve gameplay and roll out more content.

I also mainly like FF for the story-- that's the content I most look forward to. So to me, it's just incomprehensible that they have content that's already made and they aren't giving it to us.

The phrase "A step backwards" seems to apply to an awful lot in XIV =/

The main quest storyline seems (so far) to have very little to do with each individual nation past Rank 20. They all converge to the same line for the foreseeable future (based off of what is in the .dat). The class quests, however, go into a great deal of detail about the characters you meet in the nation storylines. Those are available to everyone, regardless of nation.

My advice, watch the cutscenes on youtube, then just be content with class quests. The nation stories are just a build up to all the quests that happen at Rank 20 really (so far).
