I turn 32 this month. Before I tried FFXIV I kinda told myself this COULD be my last MMO. I really hope they can turn things around because I dont want my MMO career to end on such a sour note.

If you are 70+ and a heart attack is imminent for you.. I am really sorry, and I hope you well.

No, im 31 soon to be 32. I'm not 80 and im not under 30. When I say this COULD be my last MMO that leaves room for playing another MMO if it is "so ridiculously amazing that basically revolutionize the entire MMORPG genre".
That being said I could also stop playing MMOs completely. I have a wife and 2 kids I can surely find a way to fill my time with something other than an MMO if I need to : P

I see, in that case more power to you dude :) ... Sorry about the outburst.. I just find it super annoying when people say this is their last mmo.. when I know for a fact that once the next big thing comes out.. they will all bandwagon it like crazy...

I kinda predicted this happening during beta after seeing that changes were not forthcoming at the official release. So...I've stayed away from joining/starting a shell until the dust settled.

So...if anyone on Palamecia wants a grouchy old dude in their shell(who loves FF)....look me up. Heck...I'll throw in my wife too. Both of us plan on riding this storm til the end as we have nowhere else to go.

This is what happens when you release a broke, unfinished game and sit on critical patches for 2 months in lieu of pushing them out weekly.

I've seen 2 LS's fail now on Istory, May be witness to a third and fourth....

The problem is the declining player base...I've been checking on the server population during NA and JP prime time the last few weeks.

JP Prime time- ~1300-1400 people online
NA prime time- ~800-900 people online

Now if you take into account all the afk players who are bazaring i'd say about 150-200 players spreed across all the cities that means you have only 600-750 actual people playing XIV during NA prime time on Istory.

I mean I could get even more depressing by guessing how many of those are craft or land junkies who don't rank DoW jobs. The problem with a small population is that there is no new blood, so the gap between the casual player and the hardcore widens. Casual players will have a harder and harder time ranking up and keeping pace with the hardcore player. I mean as the game stands now, good luck to anyone who can only log in for 2-3 hours a day. Any LS you belong to will either be too high to help, or fanish due to lack of interest.

I like this game a lot. It is visually stunning and has the ability to be something great. I'm afraid that by the time "great" is achieved there will be no one left online to enjoy it.

I mean how awesome is a Faf/hogg kill if there is no one to see it?

ive joined a few on rab now i play on selbina

the one in my sig misfits they claim to have over 100 members but i gaurentee youll never see more then 10-15 online

well not literaly.. you may see 15 or more online but they are afk.. this i guarentee youll never see more then 5-10 activly online and talking

not just them but theres like two others like this who claim over 100 members and highly active.. one is Honor ls and i forgot the other cause it only had 1 member on. aka the one who invited me and like 3 others listed as offline so i dropped it after a week or so of checking members went to selbina.. same story

i WOULD just make a char on each server and see which one has a good active social then delete all the other characters but i know SE will charge me 3$ x16 or however many servers there are even if i just do it in 1 day and delete em that same day

The November and December patches are the problem.

They should never have announced them, they should have just started cranking out changes every week as fast as they could finish them.

Now people are waiting for the game to be fixed later this month instead of dealing with the crappy UI etc. "I'll just wait a couple of weeks till they fix it before I go looking for some gear so I can level". The big problem here is the nature of MMOs. If you're not playing you get over the addiction really quickly and it's much easier to walk away (it's why all MMOs have time sinks). So a lot of these people who are "waiting" are actually going to quit as they take up something else in the mean time.

Excellent post. You hit it right on the button. Anyone who wants to ask why I'm ****** there was not even a small patch in yesterdays "maintenance" can now simply read your post, as that is it right there. I've logged in ONCE in 2 WEEKS, and the damned game has no sub!. I have been hoping with every "maintenance" to see SOMETHING on SE's end showing me their commitment to making good on their promises. But if they are seriously going to sit on patches until the last minute rather than get even the smallest stuff going, then as far as I'm concerned they don't care whether I log in or not. Which, in turn, just helps me not to care if I log in or not. Dec. 6th in one month and 2 days ( the end of my 60 "free days ), then I'm gone. They want to wait 'til the end of December for most of the improvements/content/whatever, then whoever is left here can enjoy them but I won't even bother looking back.

I started the game slightly late slightly less then a week after normal edition came out, i joined selbina to join a ls with all old seraph ffxi players.

we have 80+ memebers first 1-2 weeks was really active but now almost 0 ppl ever on except for a few daytime/german members even last weekend was almost no one. Quite sad really, hope it changes but i still like the game enough.

Yeah I've been noticing quite a few shells folding. Oddly enough my own LS is doing fine. Nearly all of my members still log on. I've even had new members coming in lately with three more waiting for invites that I haven't been able to get to yet. The thing is that many of my new members have been coming from other shells that have folded. One of my newer guys was in 3 or 4 shells before he came to us. He said that all his previous ones folded due to people not logging on and the ones that did never talked.

On one hand it's great that I'm starting to get a bunch of new people coming in. On the other, it sucks that so many other shells are on the way out. The Nov/Dec updates just can't come soon enough.

Ya you were in my LS haha. She made some pants for me I think. I was Gihon Jotunn, but I was only on for the first few weeks. I was RL friends with a few ppl in the LS but they've stopped playing too. Kinda sucks, oh well.

Same here Ruckus. Have 30 some LS members, many of whom grinded multiple jobs and hit mid twenties, gone.
LS is a ghost town with a max of 5 players at any given time the last two weeks.

Some people log in around leve reset, tinker around for an hour or so, and are gone for the next 36 hours. Some don't bother to log in at all anymore.
A couple people said they were tired of spending 70% of their playtime running across maps. They play once a week after they accrue enough anima to do a bunch of stuff at one time without having to spend half the time steering their character down a road.
One LS mate even calls XIV "FF Track and Field"

Most I haven't heard from to even ask why they havn't been playing. I'm pretty sure they are gone for good.

It's discouraging, and makes me fear for this game.

Also on Selbina and 37 years young here...

I was invited to an ls when I was shouting for a fish rod by a guy who wanted to help me by making a fish rod. That guy left the ls due to some moron argument about endgame rules when there's no endgame content yet and the shell leader not wanting to turn FFXIV into another full time job like some shells in FFXI were.

I stuck with the shell and saw less and less members log on until we formed another shell with the active members and kept tabs on the old shell and invited who would log on on the old shell. A bit later we all joined Noblesse and they have alot of active members but sadly they also suffered from people who no longer logged on so this week we hit the 128 cap on the original Noblesse shell and we all switched to Noblesse Alliance which is now comprised of 75 active members or more.

While I'm more of a loner, casual player, I can be very chatty at times and if I can I'll help out other shell members, but not much I can do combat wise because at this point I have my hands full fishing and crafting when I log on.

Noblesse is very active and everyone is helpfull with repairs/crafting weapons/armor for those that need it, provided someone can make it offcourse and every night there's atleast 2-3 grind/leve parties forming in the 2-3 hours I can play. If you need a good shell on Selbina you should check them out, there's a recruiting thread in Selbina forum which lists the sackholders if you're interested.

The problem with LS's too is that theres a 130 member cap or something and you can't break a pearl unless your right beside the person a la bazaar purchase.

Fill an LS have half quit the game then you can never replace those spots = dead shell.

You don't "break" a pearl, but the leader can "Banish" a member, which is the same thing.
It's in the LS member menu, when you click on a particular member, the option will pop up.

Recently turned 24 here.

I have 3 linkshells atm. Only on 1 do I see active players, and even still it's only about 6/35 online normally.

I had one LS that started with 48 in it. It now sits as 20 members on the roster, with only the same 1-2 logging in each night. I checked the lodestone to see if those people still played and just quit the LS or quit the game all together. The majority of players actually deleted their characters and quit (I assume).

GG S-E.

Like many others, I'm pretty much done with S-E. It will take a lot for me to ever buy one of their games again, unless they take some serious action. I do not intend on reviewing my subscription, which really saddens me because I desperately wanted this game to be great.

On my second LS it has 40 members but is very active (alot of leveling people, leveling (obviously) including one **** smelly cat!
